Dr. Charles Harris Brier
WWII veteran taught at Farrell High, was podiatrist

Dr. Charles Harris Brier, 1728 S. Judy Lynn Drive, Farrell, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (9-20-00) in Heritage Manor Jewish Home for the Aged, Youngstown. He was 85.

Dr. Brier was born April 26, 1915, in New York.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from City College of New York and taught in Farrell High School for many years.

He later became a podiatrist, receiving a podiatry medicine degree from College of Podiatry in Cleveland.

A World War II veteran, he served in the Panama Canal Zone.

Dr. Brier was a member of The Podiatry Association; and Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Kolma Greenstone, whom he married in January 1946, at home; and a sister, Harriet Fedakowski.

He was preceded in death by a sister; and two brothers, Bernard and Kenneth.

Thomas F. Driscoll Sr.

Retired R.I. insurance agent had relatives here

WEST WARWICK, R.I. -- Thomas F. Driscoll Sr., Factory Street, West Warwick, died Sept. 1, 2000, in Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was 82.

Mr. Driscoll was born April 7, 1918, in West Warwick to James H. and Mary E. McGuinness Driscoll.

For 37 years, he was an insurance agent for John Hancock Insurance Co., West Warwick, retiring in 1978.

An Army veteran, Mr. Driscoll served in Europe, Africa and in the Middle East during World War II and was a participant in the Battle of the Bulge.

He belonged to St. James Church; and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 449; and the Pawtuxet Valley Preservation and Historical Society, all West Warwick.

Mr. Driscoll also belonged to AARP, the retired persons organization; Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, both West Warwick; Rhode Island Coalition of Notch Babies Chapter 2210, of which he served as past president; and West Warwick and Coventry Senior Citizens organization.

He spent much time in the Shenango Valley with local relatives and friends.

His wife, the former Anne M. Palisin, is deceased.

Surviving are: two sons, Thomas F. Jr., West Warwick; and Gregory J., Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Sandra L. Deckett, West Warwick; and Kathleen A. McCann, Tampa; six grandchildren; and various family members and friends in the Shenango Valley.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, James E.

    Service: Mass of Christian burial was at St. James Church, West Warwick, with the Rev. James Hynes, pastor of St. James Church, West Warwick, as celebrant.
    Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Warwick, with full military honors by Rhode Island National Guard. A graveside committal service preceded.

Addison E. Keates

Addison E. Keates, 15 Connelly Blvd., Sharon, died at 1:26 p.m. Wednesday (9-20-00) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 89.

Robert E. Leary

Decorated Army veteran was retired car salesman

Robert E. Leary, 310 Liberty St., Jamestown, died at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday (9-20-00) in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. He was 80.

Mr. Leary was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Warren, Ohio, to Ernest W. and Florence A. Wood Leary.

He retired after 40 years as a car salesman for the former Jim Sarvas Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge, Hempfield Township.

An Army veteran, Mr. Leary served as a Tech 5 with the 313th Regiment 79th Infantry Division in four campaigns during World War II. Twice wounded, he was recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Medal of Jubilee of Liberty.

He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5424, Jamestown; and American Legion Post 140, Greenville; and was a member, past elder and trustee of Jamestown Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Leary loved cars and riding around Pymatuning Lake with his Boston terrier, Babe, and his greyhound, Suzy.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Maxine Cooper, whom he married May 4, 1946; two daughters, Cindy, Sharon; and Mrs. Jim (Sally) Courtney, Atlantic; a son, Robb, Greenville; a sister, Sue Courtney, Jamestown; and five brothers, Jim, John and Tom, all Jamestown; Lew, Jefferson, Ohio; and Lloyd, California; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Rose R. Loutzenhiser

First Baptist member retired from Greenville hospital

Funeral will be Saturday for Rose R. Loutzenhiser, 9 Penn Ave., formerly of 123 N. High St., both Greenville. She died at 5:33 p.m. Tuesday (9-19-00) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 87.

Mrs. Loutzenhiser was born July 4, 1913, in Liberty, Ohio, to Peter R. and Joanna Compopiano Rechedy.

She attended the former East Fallowfield (Township) School, Crawford County.

Mrs. Loutzenhiser retired in 1978 after 12 years with the former Greenville Regional Hospital. She began as a nurse aide and retired from the housekeeping department.

Mrs. Loutzenhiser was a member of First Baptist Church and Blue Star Mothers, both Greenville.

Her husband, Glenn W. Loutzenhiser, whom she married Sept. 26, 1936, died Oct. 31, 1966.

Surviving are: a son, Richard D., Greenville; four sisters, Lena Sugar, Las Vegas; Angelina Kerfoot, Burghill; Norma Melvin, Edgewater, Fla.; and Addie Giangiordano, Greenville; three brothers, James Rechedy, Port Richey, Fla.; and Simon Rechedy, Jefferson; and Remi Rechedy, Warren, both Ohio; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Jean Loutzenhiser; a sister, Mary Dray; and two brothers, Ralph and Roy Rechedy.

Lois Jane Keaveny

Stillwagon
Homemaker formerly of Hubbard lived in Calif.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., -- Lois Jane Keaveny Stillwagon, Redwood City, formerly of Hubbard, died at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 7, 2000, at home. She was 72.

Mrs. Stillwagon was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Sharon to J.D. and Clara B. Mohney Stillwagon.

A homemaker, she enjoyed doll collecting, sewing and traveling.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Maurie (Kathleen) Bennett, Belmont, Calif.; and Mrs. Jim (Christine) Morrison, Portage, Mich.; a son, John T. Keaveny, Saratoga, Wyo.; three sisters, Elizabeth Glass, Ohio; Dorothy Frye, Arizona; and Martha Warner, Georgia; a brother, George L. Stillwagon, Maryland; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Battisti and Vera Houston.

Services will be announced at a later date.


Willie Frank Woodall
National Castings worker was ‘68 Sharon grad, in Air Force

Funeral will be Saturday for Willie Frank Woodall, 224 E. Budd St., Sharon. He died at 7:50 p.m. Monday (9-18-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of a heart attack. He was 49.

Mr. Woodall was born Nov. 14, 1950, in Youngstown to Arthur and Lucinda White Woodall Jr.

A 1968 alumnus of Sharon High School, he was an Air Force veteran and a foundry worker at the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp., Sharon.

Mr. Woodall was an avid fisherman.

Surviving are: a daughter, Laki Woodall Pinckey; and a son, Kendrix Witherspoon, both Charleston, S.C.; three sisters, Cynthia L. Wilkins, Sharon; Cynthia D. Henderson, Farrell; and Brenda Gordon, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Arthur L., Springfield, Mass.; and Larry J., Seattle; a companion, Sheila Maupin, Sharon; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald L.
