Frank Guzi
Sharon Tube retiree was St. John’s Orthodox member

Funeral service will be Monday for Frank Guzi, Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of Sharon. He died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday (9-21-00) in the home. He was 89.

Mr. Guzi was born March 6, 1911, in Monongahela, Pa., to Vasil and Paraska Roman Guzi.

He retired in 1976 from Sharon Tube Co., where he was a tube tester.

Mr. Guzi was a member of St. John’s Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, Sharon.

Surviving is a sister, Mrs. John (Eva) Pochal, Beaver.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Stephans; and two brothers, Andrew and Wesley Guzi.

GUZI
    
Frank, 89, East Lackawannock Township.

Elizabeth D. Hauger
Pulaski Twp. homemaker had son in New Wilmington

Funeral service will be Monday for Elizabeth D. Hauger, Pulaski Township, who died at 9:40 p.m. Thursday (9-21-00) in the hospital of Jameson Health System, New Castle, after a short illness. She was 92.

Mrs. Hauger was born Oct. 10, 1907, in Homestead, Pa., to John and Anna Getsy DuBrasky.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Camillus Church, New Castle.

Mrs. Hauger was a member of the National Slovak Club, Sharon; and the Snappy Dragon Club, Pulaski.

She enjoyed gardening and needlework.

Her husband, Harland R. Hauger, whom she married Oct. 16, 1928, died Nov. 1, 1979.

Surviving are: a son, Leonard R. Hauger, New Wilmington; and two grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Zyak and Mary Bella; and three brothers, Andrew DuBrasky, John DuBrasky and George Horner.

Mrs. Harland (Elizabeth), 92, Pulaski Township.

Elsie J. Hefferman

Secretary for superintendent, fair was active in Stoneboro

Elsie J. Hefferman, 10 E. Forest St., Stoneboro, died at 11:10 a.m. Friday (9-22-00) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after an extended illness. She was 70.

Mrs. Hefferman was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Brookfield Township to Robert J. and Vanessa Zedaker Allen.

A 1947 alumnus of the former Stoneboro High School, she retired in 1992 after more than 20 years as secretary for the superintendent of Lakeview Area School District.

After retiring, Mrs. Hefferman became secretary for the Great Stoneboro Fair.

A member of Stoneboro United Methodist Church, she had served as financial secretary for many years as well as on administrative council and various committees.

A charter member of Stoneboro Women’s Club, Mrs. Hefferman was a past president.

She was on the Stoneboro zoning board.

Mrs. Hefferman enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren as well as reading, traveling, sewing and cross-stitch.

Her husband, Robert R. Hefferman, whom she married June 27, 1947, died Dec. 13, 1996.

Surviving are: her mother, Vanessa Canon, Stoneboro; three daughters, Mrs. Robert J. (Linda) Butler, Sandy Lake; Mrs. Mark W. (Barbara) Turnbough, Lake Winnebago, Mo.; and Mrs. Don A. (Lou Ann) Iskat, Stoneboro; a son, Robert A. Hefferman, Stoneboro; a sister, Mary Louise Hutchison, Stoneboro; and eight grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Fleming Canon; an infant daughter; and granddaughter, Kristi Turnbough.

Michael P. Mattace Sr.

‘64 Grove City High grad was retired business owner

MADISON, Ga. -- Michael P. Mattace Sr., formerly of Grove City, died Thursday (9-21-00) in Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, of complications from heart surgery. He was 54.

Mr. Mattace was born March 4, 1946, in Butler County to Salvatore Francis and Lena Sindone Mattace.

He was a 1964 graduate of Grove City High School.

Mr. Mattace was an honorably-discharged veteran of the Army.

Before retiring in 1988, he owned and operated Addressing Atlanta, Inc.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Mattace attended St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Monroe, Ga.

Surviving are: a daughter, Annette Mattace, Elko, Nev.; a son, Michael P. Mattace Jr., Madison, Ga.; his fiance, Judy Drake; three children whom he reared, Mark Cochran, Douglasville, Ga.; and Misty Drake and Laura Drake, both Covington, Ga.; two brothers, Joseph P., Leesburg; and Frances Salvatore Mattace, Butler; and four grandchildren.

Stanley Paulenich
Hermitage retiree was self-employed contractor

Stanley Paulenich, 3524 Panin Road, Hermitage, died at 8:28 a.m. Friday (9-22-00) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a brief illness. He was 84.

Mr. Paulenich was born March 12, 1916, in Sharon to John and Josephine Pavlich Paulenich.

He was a self-employed contractor for 25 years, retiring in 1980.

Mr. Paulenich had been employed at the former Malleable Steel, Sharon, for 20 years.

He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Sharon.

Mr. Paulenich was a member of C.C.U. Lodge 29 and Slovenska Nardona Podporna Jednota Lodge 755, both Sharon.

He also was secretary-treasurer of Monday Seniors Bowling League at Hickory Bowl, Hermitage, for 20 years.

Mr. Paulenich was an avid gardener and enjoyed polka music.

His first wife, Sauvi Katich, whom he married Sept. 27, 1947, died Oct. 7, 1969.

Surviving are: his second wife, the former Stella D. Ferrari, whom he married Sept. 13, 1973, at home; a daughter, Kathy Paulenich, Sharon; a stepdaughter, Lynn Giddings, Hermitage; two sons, Gary S. Paulenich, Sharon; and Randy T.J. Paulenich, Swedesboro, N.J.; a stepson, Eugene Ferrari, New Castle; three sisters, Josephine Sipusic, McKinley Heights, Ohio; Agnes Unick, Diamond, Ohio; and Dorothy Venglarik, Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren; two stepgrand-children; and a stepgreat-grandson.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann McShaw; and a brother, Francis Paulenich.

Goldie V. Rader

Retired nurse was formerly of Atlantic

Funeral service will be Tuesday for Goldie V. Rader, St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, formerly of Atlantic. She died at 11 a.m. Thursday (9-21-00) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 91.

Mrs. Rader was born Dec. 4, 1908, in Bartow, W.Va., to Howard and Jennie Mullenax Phillips.

She attended nursing school in Philadelphia.

Before retiring in 1983, Mrs. Rader was a private-duty nurse for 20 years in the Meadville area.

She was a member of Fallowfield United Methodist Church, Atlantic; and Arbovale (W.Va.) Methodist Church.

Mrs. Rader was a member of the Air Force Mothers and the Navy League of the United States.

A homemaker, she enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Her husband, Owen F. Rader, whom she married April 20, 1924, died March 12, 1992.

Surviving are: a son, Robert L. Rader, Hadley; four sisters, Edith Haddock, Ashmore, Ill.; Betty Wildman and Lucy Schrader, both Mattoon, Ill.; and Marry Conley, Charleston, Ill.; two brothers, Harmon Phillips, Romeoville, Ill.; and Paul Phillips, Charleston, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grand-children; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bernell I. Rader; and two sons, Ralph and Howard Rader.

Betty J. Stoner Swogger

Former Sharon homemaker had 65 survivors

Funeral service will be Tuesday for Betty J. Stoner Swogger, 29 N. Third St., Sharpsville, formerly of Sharon. She died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday (9-21-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 76.

Mrs. Swogger was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Sharon to George W. and Daisy Trump Clayton.

She attended Sharon schools and was an avid fan of the Sharon High School football team.

Mrs. Swogger attended First Presbyterian Church, Sharpsville.

A homemaker, she liked to sew and garden.

Surviving are: her husband, Frank Swogger Sr., whom she married Oct. 2, 1999; three daughters, Mrs. John (Bonita) Anderson, Nashua, N.H.; Mrs. John (Karen Jean) Beveridge, Sharon; and Mrs. Robert (Diane) Nezdoba, Kingman, Ariz.; nine sons, David Stoner Sr., Seminole, Fla.; Stanley Stoner III, Sharon; Charles Stoner Sr., Hermitage; Joseph Stoner Sr., Frank Swogger Jr. and Timothy Swogger, all Sharon; and James Swogger, Daniel Swogger and David Swogger, all Sharpsville; a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Virginia) Hougleman, Sharpsville; 27 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Besides her first husband, Stanley Stoner Jr., she was preceded in death by a son, two sisters, four brothers and two grandchildren.
