Robert C. Byler

GC native taught, coached in Sharon, Brookfield schools

MARS, Pa. -- Robert C. Byler, 206 Adams Pointe Blvd., Suite 6, Mars, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday (12-20-00) in UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh. He was 58.

Mr. Byler was born June 18, 1942, in Grove City to Carroll C. and Jeanne R. Gill Byler.

The alumnus of New Castle High School and what is now Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania also attended University of Pittsburgh.

He was a sales executive, in shelving, with Ontario Store Fixtures.

Mr. Byler also coached and taught at Laurel School District, New Castle; Sharon Junior High School; Brookfield Area School District; and Western Beaver School District, Beaver, Pa.

He was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Cranberry, Pa., and enjoyed golf.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Christine R. Gerhardt, whom he married Sept. 3, 1993; his parents; a stepdaughter, Jill McBride, Gainesville, N.Y.; a stepson, Dustin Reding, LeRoy, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. David (Barbara) Van Horn, New Castle; and a granddaughter.

Marian Maria Coleman

Canton resident formerly lived in Sharon

CANTON, Ohio -- Marian Maria Coleman, McKinley Lifecare Center, Canton, died Nov. 18 (11-18-00) in the nursing home. She was 90.

Mrs. Coleman was born Dec. 14, 1909, in East Pittsburgh, to Frank G. and Beatrice Comer Hohman.

She was reared in Sharon.

Mrs. Coleman was a member of St. Joseph Church, Canton.

She and moved to Canton with her husband, Joseph Michael Coleman. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are: a daughter Marcia Ann Rocovitz, California; a brother, Edward Hohman, Sharon; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Hohman, Sister Stella Hohman and Beatrice Organ; and two brothers, the Rev. Francis Hohman and John Hohman.




Paul A. Lampkins

MESA, Ariz. -- Paul A. Lampkins, formerly of Farrell, was survived by a daughter, Demora Lampkins, in North Carolina.

Angeline 'Angie' DeSantis
Was lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday (12-22-00) for Angeline "Angie" DeSantis, Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of 326 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage; and of Farrell. She died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday (12-19-00) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. She was 90.

Mrs. DeSantis was born April 6, 1910, in Johnstown to Jack and Antoinette Laporta Lovella.

She was a life member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.

Her husband, Domenic DeSantis, whom she married Oct. 16, 1926, died in June 1987.

Surviving are: two daughters, Rosalie Paglia and Antoinette DeBonis, both Hermitage; a brother, Dominic DeSantis, Mokena, Ill.; a sister, Sandra Triuzzla, Paterson, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank; four brothers, Joseph, Tony, Sam and Jim Lovella; two sisters, Mary Urso and Lena Passentina; and a grandson, Richard DeSantis.

Kazimer Grzejka Jr.

Sharon native was partner in Budget Homes of Fla.

MEXICO BEACH, Fla. -- Kazimer Grzejka Jr., 110-2 S. 40th St., Mexico Beach, died Dec. 11 (12-11-00) in Bay Medical Center, Panama City, Fla. He was 42.

Mr. Grzejka was born Sept. 16, 1958, in Sharon to Kazimer Grzejka (Gray) Sr. and Hilda "Dee Dee" Back Grzejka.

Mr. Grzejka moved to Florida four years ago from Pennsylvania with his second former wife, Donna Lee Faber of Hermitage.

He was in partnership with Steve Matincheck at Budget Homes of Panama City.

Mr. Grzejka previously was employed by Laskey's Discount Furniture, Sharon; Kerr's Furniture, Grove City; and Freight Liquidators, Niles, Ohio.

Surviving are: a son, Kristoffer; a daughter Jamie Lynn Grzejka, both Greenville; his first former wife, Paula Grzejka, Transfer; a step-daughter, Mary Beth Dolata, Anderson, Ind.; a stepson, Jeff Faber, Fairfax, Va.; two sisters, Sharyn Banjak and Gail Muir, both Panama City; his foster parents, Thelma and Joe Neeley, Mercer; three foster sisters, Elizabeth Brook, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Josephine Snyder, Franklin; and Rebecca Hillard, Mercer; and two grandsons.

He was buried in Garden of Memories, Panama City.


Gladys M. Goodrick
Volunteered more than 1,000 hours with UPMC Horizon

Funeral service will be Saturday (12-23-00) for Gladys M. Goodrick, 70 Meadowbrook Road, Hermitage. She died at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday (12-20-00) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 96.

Mrs. Goodrick was born Jan. 17, 1904, in Sharon to Lou and Rebecca S. Manning Henshaw.

She was an alumna of the former Shenango Valley Business College and was employed by the former Whitmer-Smith Department Store, both Sharon.

Mrs. Goodrick was a member of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Hermitage.

She was an active volunteer with UPMC Horizon, Farrell, when it was known as Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital. Mrs. Goodrick volunteered more than 1,000 hours in the Lobby Shop, and was an active "Greylady."

Her husband, Carl F. Goodrick, whom she married April 12, 1922, died Dec. 1, 1980.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Betty) Gill, Hermitage; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles F.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 218 Meadowbrook Road, Hermitage 16148.

Suzanne J. Pavlov

Former teacher retired from Hubbard School District

Suzanne J. Pavlov, 210 Tulip Drive, Hubbard, died of cancer at 1:10 a.m. today (12-21-00) in Forum Health's Northside Medical Center, Youngstown. She was 61.

Mrs. Pavlov was born April 12, 1939, in Youngstown to Frank and Helen Olsavsky Skovira.

She graduated in 1961 from Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in education.

Mrs. Pavlov retired in 1996 after 17 years as an elementary school teacher in Hubbard School District.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Hubbard; Women's Golf Association of Hubbard and Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Surviving are: her husband, John J. Pavlov Sr., whom she married Jan. 6, 1962; a son, John J. Jr., Panama City Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Cathy Hudson, Ormond Beach, Fla.; and Kelly Smart, Columbus; and four granddaughters.

Madeline L. O'Connor Joyce

Sharpsville woman was active in church, school groups

Madeline L. O'Connor Joyce, 608 S. Ninth St., Sharpsville, died at 1:50 a.m. today (12-21-00) in her home after an extended illness. She was 88.

Mrs. Joyce was born Nov. 28, 1912, in Washington, D.C., to Thomas and Catherine Fitton O'Connor.

A homemaker, Mrs. Joyce was the wife of Peter J. Joyce, former Mercer County commissioner and mayor of Sharpsville. They met in Washington, D.C, during World War II and were married May 15, 1943.

The 1930 alumna of St. Cecilia's High School in Washington, also attended a business school in Washington, D.C.

Before her marriage, Mrs. Joyce worked for Hamilton Bank and American National Bank in Washington.

She was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, and its Altar Rosary Society. She also belonged to Sharpsville Woman's Club.

Mrs. Joyce was active in the parent teacher associations of Sharpsville Area School District and St. Joseph's School, Sharon. At one time she was involved with Scouting.

Surviving are: her husband; two daughters, Madeline "Monty" Joyce-Caruso, wife of John Caruso, Richmond, British Columbia, Canada; and Patricia Joyce-Lelek, wife of Ted J. Lelek, Farifield, Conn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas P. and Barbara Kranich Joyce, Pittsburgh; and five grandchildren.

Six sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Rev. Dr. J. Calvin Rose

Was former pastor of Second Presbyterian Church

The Rev. Dr. J. Calvin Rose, 461 McGary Road, New Wilmington, died at 9:22 a.m. Wednesday (12-20-00) in his home after an extended illness. He was 89.

Rev. Rose was born Feb. 5, 1911, in Ohio to Harry Joseph and Ida Harper Rose.

The Wilmington High School alumnus graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington; and in 1934 from Pittsburgh Xenia Seminary.

He was a member since 1935 of Shenango Presbytery.

Rev. Rose was pastor from 1942 through 1955 of Second Presbyterian Church, New Castle and from April 1978 until retirement of Miami (Fla.) Shores Presbyterian Church.

His wife, the former Charlotte Patterson, whom he married Sept. 1, 1934, died Dec. 14, 1997.

Surviving are: two daughters, Jean M. Hedin, Daytona Beach Shores; Janet R. Loveday, Hollywood; a son, John C. II, Fort Lauderdale; all Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Grotefend, Gladys Buckwalter, Ruth Rose and Elizabeth McCrumb; and five brothers, Robert, Harry, Joseph, Parker and Dudley.

William David 'Bear' McKinnon
'72 Sharon High School grad was heavy metal fabricator

William David "Bear" McKinnon, 548 Lafayette Ave., Sharon, formerly of Long Beach, Calif., died unexpectedly at 7 a.m. Wednesday (12-20-00) in his home. He was 46.

Mr. McKinnon was born April 27, 1954, in Sharon, to William S. and Freda Thomas McKinnon.

The 1972 Sharon High School alumnus was a heavy metal fabricator for eight years with Glenwood Erectors Inc., Niles, Ohio.

He also was a heavy metal fabricator with the U.S. Government in Long Beach, Calif., where he lived from 1977 through 1990.

Mr. McKinnon was a member and officer in First Slovak Workingmen's Educational Club, Sharon.

He also was a member of the Slovenian Home, Farrell.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are: his parents, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Carol J.) Calhoun, Warren, Ohio; Mrs. Randy (Debra A. Burkhart), Masury; and Pamela S. McKinnon, at home; and two brothers, Richard K., Sharon; and Randy A., Sharpsville.

Larry 'Ducky' Williams Jr.

Sharon native worked with youth sports in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN -- Larry "Ducky" Williams Jr., 29 W. Heights, died Sunday (12-17-00) in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was 30. Mahoning County Coroner is investigating.

Mr. Williams was born April 28, 1970, in Sharon to Larry Williams Sr. and Donna Easterling Williams.

He attended South High School, Youngstown, and played basketball and football.

Mr. Williams was employed for six years with Laborer's Local 125, Youngstown.

He was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church, Farrell.

Mr. Williams was a coach and board member for West Side Patriots Little League Football Team, Youngstown.

He also was a volunteer for the Volney Rogers Football League and Boys and Girls Club, both of Youngstown.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Anessia Hunter; a son, Larry; two daughters, Labrina and Lakisha Williams; his father and stepmother, Yvonne; and mother and stepfather, James Mason, all Youngstown; three stepsons, Jody Hunter, Youngstown; and Demetrius Lambert and Darrelle Lambert, both Campbell, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Jane Hilton, Youngstown; two brothers, Randy Triplett and Daniel Williams, both Youngstown; and five stepsisters, Sherry Williams, Youngstown; Alicia Drummond, Atlanta; Elsie Tia Clay, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Desiree Jones, McKeesport, Pa.; and Naja Williams, Georgia.
