James H. Davis
Masury man was veteran of Korean conflict, CPA

James H. Davis, 1380 Bedford Road SE, Masury, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (1-27-01) in Northside Medical Center, Youngstown, after a brief illness. He was 71.

Mr. Davis was born July 7, 1929, in Sharon to Winfield A. and Bessie A. Brest Davis.

A 1947 alumnus of Hickory Township High School, now Hermitage, he graduated from the former Shenango Valley Commercial Institute, Sharon, and completed correspondence courses as a certified public accountant. He also graduated 1960 from LaSalle Extension University, Chicago.

An Air Force veteran, Mr. Davis served as an airman first class during the Korean conflict.

He was involved in the accounting business for 45 years, and since 1975, was a self-employed certified public accountant.

The member of Hubbard Church of the Nazarene also attended Masury United Methodist Church.

Mr. Davis enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Margery M. Palette, whom he married May 29, 1954, at home; two daughters, Sharon Rupert, Masury; and Donna Jewell, Cincinnati; four brothers, Harold, Winfield R. and Paul Davis, all of Sharpsville; and Louis Davis, Transfer; a sister, Alice Bethune, Odessa, Texas; four granddaughters, Laurelin, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Suzanne Rupert; and two grandsons, Jeffery and Gregory Jewell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Doris Davis.

Ethel M. Swingle Fleet

GC woman retired in 1989 after 30 years with ASCS

Funeral will be Monday for Ethel M. Swingle Fleet, 501 Flower Ave., Grove City, formerly of Mercer and Grand Valley, Pa., who died at 12:40 p.m. Friday (1-26-01) in UPMC Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 67.

Mrs. Fleet was born May 25, 1933, in Perry Township, to James E. and Josephine Clark Rushton.

She retired in 1989 after 30 years of service with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), Mercer.

Mrs. Fleet was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

She was a member of the Midway Alliance Church, Spartansburg and had attended Grove City Alliance Church.

Her first husband, Charles E. "Chum" Swingle, whom she married Feb. 19, 1954, died Jan. 11, 1986.

Surviving are: her husband, at home, Virgil E. Fleet, whom she married March 19, 1988; her mother, Josephine Mitchell, Greenville; two daughters, Barbara Busch, wife of Carl Brant, Mercer, and Joanne Larson, Akron; a son, William E. (Cindy) Swingle, Mercer; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Del (Janet) Simmons, McMurray, Pa.; Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) Guncheon, Port Allegany, Pa.; Mrs. Andrew (Mary Ruth) Burger, Norfolk, Mass. and Mrs. Robert (Helen) Ingalls, Bethel Park, Pa.; a stepson, Ronald E. (Lauretta) Fleet, Warren, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Homer (Katherine) Nevel, Pittsfield, Pa. and Edna Freeman, Fredonia; two brothers, Ronald Rushton, Meadville and James (Mariko) Rushton, Garland, Texas; five grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Richard Joshua ‘Josh’ Ramsey

Hickory High senior was learning auto body repair

Richard Joshua "Josh" Ramsey, 130 Superior St., Hermitage, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday (1-27-01) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 18.

Josh was born May 24, 1982, in Sharon to Richard D. and Laurie R. McGhee Ramsey.

A senior at Hickory High School in Hermitage, he attended Mercer County Career Center in Mercer, where he was learning a trade in auto body repair and working at Jack’s Auto Body Repair, Sharon. Josh was also employed by Quality Steel, Transfer.

He was a Protestant and enjoyed fishing and working on cars.

Surviving are: his father, Hermitage; his mother, Laurie McGhee; two sisters, Shannon and Melissa Ramsey; a brother, Dustin McGhee; and his maternal grandparents, Bruce and Ruth McGhee, all of Masury; a paternal grandmother, Mary Matters; and a paternal great-grandmother, Louise Ashworth, both of Chillicothe, Ohio; and a nephew, Cody Keasey, Masury.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, David Richard Ramsey.


RAMSEY

Alice Werley, Masury, died at 6:50 p.m. Friday (1-26-01) in Orange Village Care Center, Masury, after a brief illness. She was 73.

Miss Werley was born June 17, 1927, in Cleveland to Nelson A. and Bess Werley.

She was a Catholic and a member of Senior Citizens Opportunity for Personal Endeavor (S.C.O.P.E.), Warren, Ohio.

Surviving is a cousin, Roger Haneline, Savannah, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Elizabeth DiCello Schell Zoccola

School retiree was avid card player, Sacred Heart member

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday for Elizabeth DiCello Schell Zoccola, 896 N. State Line Road, Masury, formerly of Paul Street, Sharon. She died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday (1-27-01) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was 83.

Mrs. Zoccola was born Sept. 8, 1917, in Farrell to Vincenzo and Rose Perri DiCello Schell.

A 1935 alumna of Farrell High School, she retired in 1972 from Sharon City School District, for which she worked for 15 years in the cafeteria at Musser School.

Mrs. Zoccola was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart and Interfaith Council, both Sharon; and North Sharon Fire Hall Auxiliary.

An avid card player, she belonged to the Ladies Night Out Card Club and Sacred Heart Marathon Card Club, both Sharon.

Her husband, Dominic B. Zoccola, whom she married April 9, 1942, passed away Sept. 5, 1978.

Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Louis C. (Carol A.) Rotunno, with whom she lived; Rosalie Morgan and Marie Currie, both of Sharon; a sister, Mary Schell, Farrell; two brothers, Frank Schell, Baldwin Park area of Los Angeles; and Nick DiCello, Charleston, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Angeline Scarmack, Theresa Pacileo and an infant, Eleanor Schell; and five brothers, Ted DiCello; and Joseph, Samuel, Louis and Peter Schell.
