Today's obituaries Myron Joseph Averback Florida resident formerly lived in Sharon NAPLES, Fla. -- Myron Joseph Averback, 79, of Naples, died Friday (7-27-01). Formerly of Sharon, he had been a Naples resident since 1979. Mr. Averback is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Paula S.) Bartell, Bartlett, Ill.; his son, Bruce M. Averback and his wife, Kelly, Warren, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Danielle Bartell and Caroline and Nicholas Averback. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, the former Auvra Lois Cinkin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples 34105. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday (8-7-01) at Temple Beth Shalom Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
James F. Bewley Penn Power retiree was active in church, community Funeral service will be Friday (8-3-01) for James F. Bewley, 3850 Morefield Road, Hermitage. He died at 9:20 p.m. Monday (7-30-01) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System due to heart problems. He was 78. Mr. Bewley was born July 2, 1923, in Sharon to James B. and Elberta Marguerite Mullen Bewley. The 1943 Sharon High School alumnus worked at Penn Power, where he was based in Clark as a foreman for 36 years and retired in 1985. Prior to that, he worked for Sharon Steel as a laborer. Mr. Bewley was a lifetime member and a deacon at First Baptist Church, Sharon. He had been a member for more than 60 years. He also was a past Sunday school teacher, past superintendent for the Sunday school, served on the board of trustees and currently was active in the food pantry. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Bewley was very active in the community, where he served on many boards. He currently was a chairman on the Hermitage Sewer Authority Board, on which he had served for more than 25 years without missing a meeting. He was active with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Hermitage, helping abused children. Mr. Bewley was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Lodge 668. He also enjoyed watching Little League baseball; fishing; gardening, growing food for the church food pantry; and woodworking. He was a handyman, helping a lot of people, especially widows. Surviving are: his wife, the former Mildred "Ruth" Thomas, whom he married May 25, 1948; a son, Bryan Bewley, and his wife, Debbie, Hubbard; and two sisters, Ezma Mae Pears, Hermitage; and Bertha Ann Bewley, Mercer. His parents and a brother, Jesse Bewley, preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to CASA, 3206 Lamor Road, Hermitage 16148.
BEWLEY Frederick W. Creed Frederick W. Creed, RD 1 Westlake Drive, Transfer, died at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday (7-31-01) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 81. Obituary information was incomplete.
CREED Doris W. Edwards Doris W. Edwards, Tucson, Ariz., died Monday (7-30-01) in Tucson. She was 80. Obituary information was incomplete.
EDWARDS Anne Ruth Garhart Was graced with long life, loving family, good friends Anne Ruth Garhart, 150 White Ave., Sharon, died of natural causes at 6 a.m. Tuesday (7-31-01) in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township. She was 87. Mrs. Garhart was born May 12, 1914, in Sharon to William and Mary McNamara Houston. The 1932 Sharon High School alumna owned and operated the former Garhart's Grocery Store on the West Hill in Sharon. Mrs. Garhart was a loving mother, a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. Mrs. Garhart enjoyed painting ceramics, was an avid bowler and belonged to two card clubs for more than 60 years. She will be sadly missed by friends and extended family, especially by her sons and daughter and grandsons and four great-grandsons. Her husband, Gerald Bernard Garhart, whom she married Jan. 26, 1936, died March 2, 1988. Surviving are: her daughter, Lin McNamara, and son-in-law, Joe Weber, Fairfax, Va.; two sons, Gerald "Gerry" Garhart and William "Bill" Garhart, both Sharon; two stepsisters, Rhoda Vaughn, Portland, Ore.; and Rita Sepanek, Burbank, Calif.; five grandsons, Sean and Jason Kushner and Pat, Mike and Wesley Garhart; and four great-grandsons. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
GARHART Melva D. McCullough Melva D. McCullough, Hermitage, formerly of 623 E. State St., Apartment 45, Sharon, died at 1:55 a.m. today (8-1-01) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was 90. Obituary information was incomplete.
McCULLOUGH James Michael Ondic Sr. Sharon man was tattoo artist, Harley-Davidson enthusiast James Michael Ondic Sr., 500 New Castle Ave., Sharon, died at 10 a.m. Monday (7-30-01) in his home. He was 41. Mr. Ondic was born Nov. 26, 1959, in Sharon to Edward and Elieen Crissman Ondic. The former employee of Frank Sherman Co., Youngstown, was a tattoo artist and an avid Harley-Davidson motorcyclist. He was a member of the Maenerchor Club. Surviving are his parents, Sharon; his companion, April S. Loosemore, Sharon; a son, James Michael Ondic Jr., West Middlesex; two daughters, Danielle Swogger, Brookfield; and Spring Marie Ondic, West Middlesex; two brothers, Brian E. and Raymond R. Ondic, Sharon; and several nieces and nephews who affectionately called him "Uncle BoBo."
ONDIC Stanley 'Stan' J. Shaffer WWII vet was businessman, Dean retiree, church member Funeral service will be Thursday (8-2-01) for Stanley "Stan" J. Shaffer, 5385 Lamor Road, Hermitage. He died of natural causes at 2 p.m. Monday (7-30-01) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 83. Mr. Shaffer was born July 1, 1918, in the Sharpsville-Clarksville area to John and Olive Cox Shaffer. He served in the 3rd Army Air Force as a first lieutenant in Naples-Foggia during World War II. Mr. Shaffer received a European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with two battle stars, an Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the American Defense Ribbon. He served with the 87th Squadron, 79th Fighter Group, and received an award of 72 missions CT. CD. in April 1944. Mr. Shaffer was a corporal First Platoon 10th Ordinance Service Company, Feb. 15, 1945. He was chief executive officer of Shaffer's Lumber. Mr. Shaffer then was a driver for Dean Foods, retiring in 1980. He then was co-owner of Roberts Shaffer Excavating. He was a member of Clark Trinity United Methodist Church for 50 years, serving as past president of the finance committee. His number one priority was his family. He spent most of his time with his family. Mr. Shaffer enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, Sharpsville. Surviving are his wife, the former Twila Frampton, whom he married May 27, 1944; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Luann) Gill, Hermitage; four sons, Stanley J. Shaffer Jr. and his wife, Bonnie; David M. Shaffer and his wife, Pamela; Jeffrey M. Shaffer and his wife, Lori; and Matthew M. Shaffer and his wife, Gina, all Hermitage; two brothers, Kenneth Shaffer, Sharpsville; and Larry Gathers, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mable Frazer, Luella Lloyd and Frances Bale; and two brothers, Glen Roberts and Frank "Bud" Shaffer.
