Charles Warren Alford
Shenango Valley native worked as Fla. paramedic

A funeral service will be Monday (8-6-01) for Charles Warren Alford, Grove City, formerly of 416 Lafayette Ave., Sharon and Jamestown. He died at 10 p.m. Wednesday (8-1-01) in Trinity Living Center following an extended illness. He was 62.

He was born Oct. 21, 1938 in Pymatuning Township to Charles Merrill and Mildred Annabelle Baldwin Alford.

Mr. Alford worked as a paramedic in Florida and previously worked as an orderly at what is now the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System.

He was a former member of East Side Baptist Disciples of Christ Church, Sharon.

Mr. Alford served in the Army. He enjoyed talking on Citizens Band radio under the handle "Doc".

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Suzanne Hazuda, who died Feb. 5, 1975; two sisters, Marjorie Gaus and Sandra Gregory.

Surviving are: one son, Chad Charles Alford and his wife, Juley, Greenville; one daughter, Mrs. Keith (Michele) Eddy, Greenville; his former wife, Sherry Lynn Gault; two sisters, Mrs. Douglas (Anita) Richmond, Cary, N.C. and Mrs. Steve (Judy) Childers, Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Robert Alford, Niles, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Howard Norman Burry

WWII Army veteran retired from Allegheny Mineral

Howard Norman Burry, 606 Terrace Ave., Grove City, died at 9 p.m. Thursday (8-2-01) in Veterans Administration Medical Center, Butler. He was 89.

He was born Dec. 20, 1911 in Zelienople to Harry and Etta Burry.

Before retirement, Mr. Burry was employed at Allegheny Mineral Corp., Harrisville.

He was a Protestant.

Mr. Burry served in the Army in World War II.

His wife, Delia Mae Allmond Burry, whom he married Dec. 18, 1945, died June 13, 1986.

Surviving are: his daughter, Carol Bumbaco, Deland, Fla.; his son, Howard A. Burry, Mercer; his sister, Alice Hively, Sun City, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Terry L. Hunyadi

Hubbard HS, YSU graduate worked at Univ. of Oklahoma

HUBBARD -- Terry L. Hunyadi, Ph.D., of Hubbard, formerly of Norman, Okla., died Thursday (8-2-01) in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was 51.

He was born July 16, 1950 in Youngstown to Albert and Winifred Stewart Hunyadi.

Mr. Hunyadi was a 1968 graduate of Hubbard High School. He graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in history and received his doctorate in history from the University of Oklahoma, Norman.

He served in the Air Force as a Russian translator.

Mr. Hunyadi worked in the library of the University of Oklahoma for 23 years.

He was a member of Amnesty International and Save The Children Foundation. He enjoyed the theater, especially Broadway plays, art, painting, and physical fitness.

Mr. Hunyadi was preceded in death by his father.

Surviving are: his mother, Winifred Hunyadi, Hubbard; one brother, Al Hunyadi, Nazareth, Pa.; one sister, Cheryl J. McMillen, Hubbard.

Harry C. Shaffer

Retired carpenter belonged to Py Community Church

Harry C. Shaffer, of Jamestown, formerly of Farrell, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday (8-01-01) in Miller Memorial Health Care Center, Andover. He was 88.

He was born Dec. 12, 1912 in West Middlesex to William and Viola Shiderly Shaffer.

Mr. Shaffer attended West Middlesex schools.

He was a self-employed carpenter in the Shenango Valley for over 50 years.

Mr. Shaffer was a member of Pymatuning Community Church, Andover, and was a past member of Victory Assembly Church, Coitsville.

He enjoyed attending all the functions at the Senior Citizen Center in Greenville.

His wife, Florence Feidler, whom he married in 1945, died March 1, 1989.

Surviving are: his son, Cliff Brenneman, Jamestown; a sister, Mrs. George (Clara) Speatar, Hermitage; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Mr. Shaffer was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Arnold Brenneman; and one sister, Gladys Rowe.

Helen M. Matthews, 1037 Isaac Dock Drive, Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of the Shenango Valley, was a former member of the Blue Star Mothers and former Sewettes Club of Shenango Valley.

She was a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church, Sharon; Eastern Star Miriam Chapter Prince Hall Affiliation Chapter 47, Farrell; M.E.T. Carroll No. 62 Valley of Erie Order of the Golden Circle Prince Hall Affiliation; and Spring Lake (N.C.) Senior Citizens Center. She was a life member of Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Fayetteville.
