Jacqueline Ann Stump-Smith Farrell woman was self-employed seamstress Jacqueline Ann Stump-Smith of 918 Hamilton St. in Farrell died at 1:41 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 56. Ms. Smith, also known as "Cabbage," was born Dec. 22, 1944, in Sharon, a daughter of Clarence B. Stump Sr. and Lee Emma L. Harrison Herbert. She was a self-employed seamstress. Ms. Smith was a former daughter of Twin City Elks Lodge 187 in Farrell. She was a Baptist. She leaves to cherish her memory: a son, Terrance Herbert-Tarver, Masury; six sisters, Barbara Freeman and Francinia Sanders, both Liberty Township, Trumbull County; Andrea Stump-Williams, New Orleans; JoWanda Fowler, Cincinnati; and Hazel Hooker and Theola Bailey, both Youngstown; a sister-in-law, Mary Smith, Wheatland; five brothers, Eugene Smith, Coitsville, Ohio; Charles Holland, Cleveland; Lt. Col. Eugene Stump, Okinawa, Japan; and John and James Stump; and her stepmother, Doris S. Stump, all New Orleans. Jacqueline helped to rear nine nieces, Jacqueline Wilkins, Linda Dozier, Yolanda Tubbs and Veronica Smith, all Youngstown; Annette Brown, Diane Williams and Darlene Bennett, all Farrell; Donna Smith, Philadelphia; and Jada Freeman, Liberty Township; and four nephews, Michael Jackson, and Troy and Chad Adkins, all Farrell; and Eugene Smith Jr., Pulaski Township. She also leaves 10 grandchildren; a godson, Delbert Jones, Youngs-town; and a host of nieces, great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clarence B. Stump Jr.; and a nephew.
STUMP-SMITH William 'Keno' Gatewood Kelly Retired oil refinery supervisor was semi-pro baseball player William "Keno" Gatewood Kelly of 321 Baker Hill Road, Fredonia, was pronounced deceased in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville, at 6:09 p.m. on August 21, 2001, following an extended illness. He was 93 years of age. Mr. Kelly was born May 25, 1908, in Cabin Creek, W.Va., to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Kelly, and he graduated from Chelyan School in West Virginia. He spent some formative years on the family farm near Topeka, Kansas. Mr. Kelly spent 27 years as a Cabin Creek Pure Oil Co. (now Union 76 in California) refinery operator and he played for and managed the old Pure Oil Co. semi-pro baseball team. He also was an outstanding baseball pitcher in the Charleston, W.Va., semi-pro State House League in the 1930s and early 1940s. Being ambidextrous, Mr. Kelly could pitch a baseball right- or left-handed. He was retired from Union 76 Oil Co. of California. An outstanding bowler, he represented the Pure Oil Co. in the National Oil Refinery Tournament that was held in Chicago in the late 1930s. He also was employed by Laketon (Ind.) Asphalt and Refining, where he was a supervisor of operators. He also was employed by the Gladiuex Oil Refinery of Fort Wayne, Ind., and upon retiring from there in 1973 moved to Fredonia. He enjoyed canine field trials and hunting, bird watching and reading; and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers. Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Elizabeth Ann Mucklow, formerly of Chelyan; a son, Donald J. Kelly, at home; two granddaughters, Amy Sue of Thunder Bay; and Julie Ann of Ballantrae, both Ontario, Canada; and five great-grandchildren, John, Erica, Jenifer, Jessica and Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ruby, Inez and Sally; and one brother, Edward. The family would like to thank the home care employees that came with loving care and kindness during Mr. Kelly's final days. A special thanks to the emergency medical team and to members of the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department Response Team who came on his final day of life. And a special thanks to the Greenville Campus of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's emergency room medical team for their kindness. KELLEY Joseph R. Deflin Joseph R. Deflin, 66 Vaughn Ave., Wheatland, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday (8-22-01) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 79. Obituary information was incomplete.
DEFLIN Joan Yazvac Joan Yazvac, 1108 Darr Ave., Farrell, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday (8-22-01) in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 61. Obituary information was incomplete.
YAZVAC Opal Mae McDeavitt Blakely Former beauty shops owner was member of Grace U.M. TAZEWELL, Tenn. -- Opal Mae McDeavitt Blakely, formerly of Grove City, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in Tazewell. She was 84. Mrs. Blakely was born Sept. 15, 1916, in West Liberty, Pa., a daughter of Robert Earl McDeavitt and Elizabeth Ethel Wimer McDeavitt. She graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1935 and from Griffith School of Beauty Culture, Pittsburgh, in 1937. Mrs. Blakely married Ralph Clair Blakely on Oct. 11, 1940. She owned and operated beauty shops in Slippery Rock and Grove City and was a past president of the Mercer County Hairdressers Association. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 86, Grove City, and had been a longtime member of the X-L Sunday School Class of Grace United Methodist Church of Grove City. Mrs. Blakely is survived by: her daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and John Edwin Lewis, Longview, Texas; and Bonnita and Larry Eugene Motter, Tazewell; four grandchildren, Dr. John Edwin Lewis Jr., Bend, Oregon; Dr. Robin Motter Mast, Baltimore; Shelly Motter Mills, Harrogate, Tenn.; and Jill Ellen Lewis, Arlington, Va.; and one great-grandson, Joseph Mills. She is also survived by her brothers, Paul and Earl McDeavitt, both Butler; and her sisters, Ethel Campbell, Sun City Center, Fla.; Leah McDeavitt, Slippery Rock; and Bertha Stewart, New Wilmington. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Jan. 22, 1983; three sisters, Margaret McDeavitt, Gilda Greenway and Mabel Ramming; and a brother, Clair McDeavitt.
