Today's obituaries Lawrence 'Larry' Munnal GM Lordstown retiree enjoyed movies, cooking Lawrence "Larry" Munnal, 1870 Pine Hollow Road, Hermitage, entered into eternal rest following an extended illness at 1:20 a.m. Monday (12-31-01) in his daughter's home with his children and grandchildren at his side. He was 70. He was born September 21, 1931 in Sharon to Emmitt and Mary Moody Munnal. Mr. Munnal attended Sharon area schools. Before retiring in 1994, he was employed by the General Motors Corp. in Lordstown, Ohio as an assembler for 27 years. Mr. Munnal was a member of the Carpatho-Russian Club, Sharon; Apollo Maennerchor Club, Sharon; Slovak Home of Farrell; Slovenian Home of Farrell, Fraternal Order of Eagles 327; Italian Home, Farrell; and the United Auto Workers Local 1112. He enjoyed watching western movies, traveling and cooking. Surviving are: one daughter, Lorrie O'Brien, Hermitage; one son, Larry Munnal, Jr. and his wife Bobbie, Sharon; one sister, Sedelia Tarbutton, Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Norman Munnal, Sharon; and six grandchildren, Jordan, Savannah and Sierra O'Brien, Hermitage; Dalton Munnal, Sharon; and Dennis and Nicole Root, Sharon. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Freda Munnal and Schelletta DiNunzio.
MUNNAL Mary Catherine Haas Parker Mary Catherine Haas Parker, 8221 Lamor Road, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of 73 Skyline Drive, Mercer, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday (12-31-01) following an extended illness. She was 79. Obituary information was incomplete.
PARKER Barbara Hornyak Barbara Hornyak, of 4080 Wynnwood Drive, Sharpsville, passed away Monday (12-31-01) in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage. She was 93. Obituary information was incomplete.
HORNYAK Joseph John Sostarich Air Force vet, Penn State grad enjoyed gardening FAIRFIELD, Ohio -- Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Joseph John Sostarich, Fairfield, formerly of Sharon, was called home to our Lord on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Mercy Hospital of Fairfield, after a long battle with cancer. He was 59. Joe was born Oct. 22, 1942, in Pittsburgh to John and Eva Yozing Sostarich, and lived in Sharon. He raised his family, along with his loving wife "Marty," in Brookfield and Fairfield. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University, Joe served his country for four years from 1963 to 1967 in the United States Air Force. Joe worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for ten years before working for General Electric Lamp Glass in Niles, Ohio, and Aircraft Engines in Evendale, Ohio for 17 years, until his retirement in 1994. On May 4, 1968, he was united in marriage with Mary "Marty" Cubellis at St. Joseph's Church in Sharon. Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Fairfield, where he was a Eucharistic minister. He was also a member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Roettele Council 8115 in Fairfield. Joe loved music, fishing, building model aircraft and was an avid Star Trek and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. After he retired, Joe enjoyed gardening, working with wood and model trains, remodeling and collecting coins. He is survived by: his devoted wife, at home; loving daughters, Lynn, wife of Walt Dudek, and his granddaughter, Katie; and Michelle, wife of James Sanford III; a sister, Genie, wife of Frank Fetsko; an uncle and aunt, Jim and Lee Damioli; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jack and Betty Lait; Paul Cubellis; and Dorothy Cubellis; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, who died in 1960. The family would like to thank Dr. Paula Weisenberger and staff; the Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati; and Mercy Hospital of Fairfield. They would also like to extend a special thanks to all of the nurses and staff on units 4A and 3A at Mercy; and would like to especially thank Heather Waldorf, registered nurse, for her loving, gentle care of Joe during his final days. Thank you also to the Rev. Norman Langenbrunner of Sacred Heart Church; the Rev. J. Rob Jack, chaplain of Jewish Hospital; and to all who loved and supported Joe and our family. SOSTARICH John Patrick 'JP' Augustine Masury man served in Air Force, collected Zippos John Patrick "JP" Augustine, 1204 Gold Street, Masury, died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday (12-30-01) in his home. He was 62. Mr. Augustine was born May 28, 1939 in Greenville to Angelo and Helen Randall Augustine. After serving our country at Orlando Air Force from 1956 to 1958, Mr. Augustine first worked for National Castings, Sharon, then for Ivor J. Lee, Masury. He retired in June 2001 from Northstar Steel, Warren. He attended St. Michael's Catholic Church, Greenville, and was a member of the Slovak Club, Farrell. In his spare time, "JP" enjoyed fishing, going to the mountains with family, repairing cars and John Deere tractors and going to flea markets. He also collected baseball cards and Zippo lighters. Surviving are: his wife at home, Carol S. Steiner Augustine; his mother, Helen Augustine, Masury; one son, John A. Augustine, Brookfield, Ohio; two daughters, Kim Sorg and Traci Augustine, both of Masury; one brother, Michael Augustine and his wife Louise, Masury; four sisters, Rae Bonasera, Sharon; Peggy Casey and her husband Richard, Masury; June Ricciardi and her husband Ralph, Masury; Sue Sulick, Brookfield; and two granddaughters, Jessica M. Sorg and Kylie O. "Girl" Augustine, both whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his father.
AUGUSTINE Irene V. Falkner Nurse was active member of First United Methodist Irene V. Falkner, 408 Franklin Street, Sharpsville, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday (12-31-01) in her residence following an extended illness. She was 76. She was born December 15, 1924 in Centerville, Pa. to George D. and Mabel Thompson Stearns. Mrs. Falkner was a 1942 graduate of Brookfield High School, later graduating in 1945 as a registered nurse from the Christian H. Buhl Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Sharon. Before retirement in 1988, she was a plant nurse at Shenango Inc., Sharon. Mrs. Falkner was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Sharpsville, where she served on various committees. She was a member of the Industrial Nurse's Association, the Sharon General Hospital Alumni Association, the "Mother of Twins" Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1338, Sharon. Mrs. Falkner was an avid reader and had a deep love for people and always supported whoever was in need. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Surviving are: her husband and best friend, Charles L. Falkner, whom she married July 11, 1946; two sons, Garth C. Falkner, Mercer, and Lynn A. Falkner, Sharpsville; one sister, Betty Blakeley, Hermitage; three granddaughters, Haddie Falkner, Hermitage; and Alexandria and Rebekah Falkner, both of Mercer; and three dear friends of over 60 years, Clara Mae Foulk, Greenville; Jean Toten, Masury, and Cathy Anderson, Stoneboro. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janice Lynn Faulkner; a brother, Eugene E. Stearns; a sister, Erla Pollock and her beloved step-father, Llewellyn A. Harnevious. FALKNER Ruth E. Tidswell Brookfield United Methodist member belonged to AARP Ruth E. Tidswell, 15 West Connelly Blvd., Sharon, died at 2:25 a.m. Monday in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 82. She was born on Jan. 16, 1919 in Hollidaysburg, Pa. to Roy and Ruth Raffensparger Dell. Mrs. Tidswell was a member of Brookfield United Methodist Church and also attended Masury United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Happy Wanderers at Corner House Christian Church, Hubbard, the Brook Village Seniors, Riverview Manor Social Club, and AARP. Mrs. Tidswell's husband, Russell D. Tidswell, whom she married in 1949, preceded her in death in 1986. Surviving are: a brother, George Dell, Brookfield, Ohio; and a sister, Margaret Gilliland, Stoneboro. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a step-son, William Tidswell; and twin brothers, Joseph and James Dell. TIDSWELL Marie J. 'Me-Me' Cunningham First Presbyterian member was born in England Marie J. "Me-Me" Cunningham, of 52 South Mercer Avenue, Sharpsville, passed away peacefully Thursday (12-27-01) in Traditions Nursing Home, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. She was 94. She was born April 16, 1907 in Smethwick, England. Her family moved to the United States in 1909 and settled in Zelienople, Pa. where she grew up. In 1929, she and her family moved to Sharon and resided in Sharon and Sharpsville for 72 years. For the last 22 years, she lived in the Mertz Towers, Sharpsville. She made many friends through the years, special loving friends, and enjoyed their companionship dearly. She had a fondness for life and others. Mrs. Cunningham loved to be with others and loved to talk, making friends and humor her hobby. In her later years, one of Mrs. Cunningham's greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. Mrs. Cunningham attended First Presbyterian Church, Sharpsville. She will be deeply missed. Surviving are: one son, Dennis Cunningham and his wife Dona, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; a son-in-law, Russell Williams; one sister, Gertrude Sampson, Lake Placid, Fla.; five grandchildren, Georgia Higgins, Lakewood, Calif.; Denna Patterson, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Daniel Cunningham, Maumee, Ohio; Gary Williams, Barnstable, Mass.; Kenneth Williams, Milford, NH; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and a cousin. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Cunningham, who died in 1977; one daughter, Geraldine Williams, a grandson, Ronald Williams; a great-grandson, Andrew Higgins; a great-granddaughter, Sheri Higgins; her parents; and two brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
