Wade E. Himes
WWII Air Force vet retired from Cooper Energy

Wade E. Himes, 23 Bell Road, Wolf Creek Township, died at 9:05 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, where he was a resident since July 2001. He was 86.

Mr. Himes was born Nov. 27, 1915, in Brookville, Pa., to Philip and Laura Osborne Himes.

He retired in 1977 from Cooper Energy Service Reciprocating Products in Grove City, where he was an assembler for 31 years.

Mr. Himes was of the Protestant faith.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served during World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519 in Grove City; and American Legion Post 852 in Harrisville.

Mr. Himes enjoyed hunting, fishing, family, his great-grandchildren and his cat, Jake.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Sarah Marie Boozell, whom he married March 20, 1948, at the residence; two children, Mrs. Richard W. (Marilyn J.) Middendorf, Jamestown; and Thomas W. Himes and his wife Ruth, Mercer; three children from a previous marriage; two half sisters; and one brother, Clyde Himes, all in California; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Himes was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two daughters, Peggy Marie Himes and Martha "Marty" Jane Himes; and one son, Ronald Himes.

Michael Rudolph Jager

Sharon Steel retiree, WWII vet liked to play cards, garden

A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Michael Rudolph Jager, Bentley House, formerly of Wakefield Drive, both Hermitage. He passed away at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 81.

Born April 7, 1920, in Farrell, Mr. Jager was a son of the late Michael and Mary Fakesch Jager.

A 1938 alumnus of Farrell High School, he retired in 1982 as a floor walker from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, after more than 40 years of service.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Sharon and was a lifetime member of the Saxon Home in Farrell. He also bowled with the Farrell Post Office Bowling League at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon.

An avid card player, he enjoyed bridge, euchre and cribbage. Mr. Jager also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, cooking and canning.

He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran stationed in Burma and an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, particularly rabbits. He also enjoyed mushroom picking.

Mr. Jager was a very devoted family man who always looked forward to spending time with his family.

On April 21, 1942, he married the former Garnet Mae Campman. She preceded him in death in April 1994.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. John M. (Patty A.) Chavara, Hermitage; and Mrs. Kenneth J. (Linda J.) Parkany, Vernon, Conn.; one son, Michael A. Jager and his wife Dawnelle, Liverpool, N.Y.; two sisters, Isabel Schuster, Farrell; and Marie Schuller, West Middlesex; eight grandchildren, Brian Parkany, Wendy VanOrder, Kimberly Nurmi, Elizabeth Jager, Jennifer Jager, Erinn Coccia, Natalie Coccia and Michael Coccia; and four great-grandchildren, Caitlin Parkany, Rachel VanOrder, Hannah VanOrder and Sarah VanOrder.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Jager was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Jager.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Pantry in care of Christ Lutheran Church, 396 Buhl Blvd., Sharon 16146.

Dorothy 'Dot' E. Reed Gealy

Homemaker was member of North Sandy Presbyterian

Dorothy "Dot" E. Reed Gealy, 5693 Sandy Lake-Polk Road, Sandy Lake, died of natural causes at 2:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. She was 81.

Mrs. Gealy was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Sandy Lake Township to Harold and Mable Reed Reed.

A homemaker, she was a member of North Sandy Presbyterian Church in Sandy Lake; and Order of the Eastern Star in Sandy Lake.

Mrs. Gealy was an avid bingo lover and enjoyed crafts, quilting, camping and fishing.

Surviving are: her husband, James "Jim" L. Gealy, whom she married Oct. 21, 1941, at home; a daughter, Linda, wife of Benjamin Lewis, Sandy Lake; a daughter-in-law, Mary, wife of the late Ronald Gealy, Jackson Center; three sisters, Pearl Francisco, Grove City; Florence Owens, Guys Mills; and Lois Slater, Fredonia; four brothers, Paul Reed and William Reed, both Stoneboro; Don Reed, Cookstown, N.J.; and Norman Reed, Sandy Lake; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides her son Ronald, Mrs. Gealy was preceded in death by her parents.

Dean Leroy Miller

Bombardier Aircraft Lear Jet worker was '55 WMHS grad

WICHITA, Kan. -- Dean Leroy Miller, Wichita, died at 8:50 p.m.Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, in Riverside Hospital after a short illness. He was 64.

Mr. Miller was born March 5, 1937, in Shenango Township to Steve and Clara Frazier Miller.

A 1955 graduate of West Middlesex High School, he moved to Tucson, Ariz. and worked in the aircraft industry for 28 years.

Mr. Miller moved to Wichita, where he was a sheet metal assembler for Bombardier Aircraft Lear Jet for 13 years.

He enjoyed outdoor activities.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Sandy Korpa, whom he married in 1960, at home; two sons, Brian and Bradley Miller, both Wichita; and two sisters, Norma Miller Ackerman and her husband Raymond Ackerman, Mercer; and Barbara Simpson and her husband Jones Marcus Simpson, Belmont, N.C.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Vincent and Stephen Miller.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Wichita. A cremation will follow.

Mary Lou Mondich
Mary Lou Mondich, 1811 Memorial Drive, Farrell, died at 2:15 a.m. today (1-8-02) in her home after an extended illness. She was 53.

Alexander Fazakas

Westinghouse retiree was WWII Navy veteran

A full military funeral service will be held Wednesday for Alexander Fazakas, Bentley House, 2400 Garden Way, Hermitage, formerly of 1449 Ridge Ave., Sharpsville. He died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002 in Butler Veterans Administration Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 76.

Mr. Fazakas was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Sharon to John and Pauline Moldovan Fazakas.

He attended Sharon High School and retired in 1984 after 38 years of service from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he was a shotblaster.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Fazakas served during World War II as a Seaman First Class from 1943-46, earning a European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166 in Hermitage; and American Legion Post 299 in Sharon.

Mr. Fazakas was an avid golfer and a "die-hard" Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was also a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates and the University of Pittsburgh sports teams.

He has no survivors.

Mr. Fazakas was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ida; and one brother, John Fazakas Jr.

Jessie C. Johnston

Forestville church member worked in Harrisville, GC

Jessie C. Johnston, Pine Township, formerly of Forestville, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Orchard Manor, Pine Township. She was 78.

Mrs. Johnston was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Clay Township, Butler County, to Christian G. George and Amy V. Young George.

She was employed by Bonetti Health Care of Harrisville as a housekeeper; and the former Dot and Ron's Restaurant in Grove City, where she was a cook.

As a member of Forestville United Methodist Church, Mrs. Johnston belonged to the church choir; the church women's group; and the adult Sunday school class.

Her husband, Deloss E. Johnston, whom she married May 5, 1942, died March 23, 1978.

Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Gary L. (Donna L.) Fitzingo, Boyers; Mrs. Gerald (Cathy J.) McCurdy, New Castle; and Tracey L. Johnston, Latham, N.Y.; one son, Terry W. Johnston, Grove City; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Mershimer, Butler; and Margaret V. Ritenour, Forestville.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her parents; one son, D. Eugene "Gene" Johnston; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Christian George.

James E. O'Donnell

Sharon Steel retiree was active in Scouts, bowling

A funeral service will be held Thursday for James E. O'Donnell of 576 S. Stateline Road in Masury. He passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday (1-6-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. He was 68.

Mr. O'Donnell was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Cambridge, Ohio, a son of Michael E. and Lillian L. Corbin O'Donnell.

He attended St. Michael's School in Greenville.

Mr. O'Donnell retired in February 1992 from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he worked as a craneman for 39 years.

He attended Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 684; and the Fourth Degree Assembly, both Sharon.

For 10 years, Mr. O'Donnell was a Webelos leader for Pack 62 and an assistant scout master for Troop 26, also serving as unit commissioner for the Custaloga District.

He enjoyed bowling and belonged to several leagues throughout the Shenango Valley.

His wife, the former Velma Hoovler, whom he married Feb. 1, 1952, survives at home.

Mr. O'Donnell also leaves: one daughter, Rose Marie O'Donnell, Masury; two sons, William Michael O'Donnell, Port Angeles, Wash.; and James F. O'Donnell, Masury; three sisters, Patricia Howard, Conroe, Texas; Mary Bircher, Houston; and Theresa "Tessie" O'Donnell, Coch-ranton; two brothers, Lester E. "Eddie" O'Donnell, Dale, Texas; and Daniel J. "Danny Joe" O'Donnell, Cochranton; five grandchildren, Christopher J., Molly, Timothy R., Maggie and Noah O'Donnell; and one great-grandson, Bradley O'Donnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Donna O'Donnell, Michalene Lewis and Lillian "Louise" Flask; and one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Irene Iliff.
