Mary A. Kopta
Arlington Drive homemaker was St. Michael's member

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday for Mary A. Kopta, 329 Arlington Drive, Pymatuning Township. She died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in the home of her daughter, 506 Reynolds Drive, Pymatuning Township. She was 88.

Mrs. Kopta was born Feb. 27, 1913, in Pilsno Powiah, Poland, to Benjamin Wojcik and Katherine Cynadel Wojcik.

She was a graduate of Froebel School in Chicago, where she was voted "Miss Aspiration" of her class.

A homemaker, Mrs. Kopta was a member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville, and a former member of St. Columbkille Church in Stoneboro.

An avid bowler, she belonged to the Reynolds Senior Citizens Mixed League.

Mrs. Kopta also enjoyed baking, reading and spending time with her family.

Her first husband, Lawrence Fox, whom she married in 1939, died in 1943. Her second husband, Joseph Kopta, whom she married Jan. 28, 1944, died March 11, 1982.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Kathy) Reimold, Greenville; two sons, Lawrence J. Fox and his wife Georgeann, Hadley; and Edward J. Kopta and his wife Julia, Ojai, Calif.; one sister, Jean Wornhoff, North Port, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kristine Reimold, Dana Reimold, L. James Fox and Mary-Mary Kopta; and two stepgrandchildren, Julianna Baker and Shannon Malish.

Besides her first and second husbands, Mrs. Kopta was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Josephine Nardella.

Alexander 'Alex' H. Blair

Pittsburgh man's relatives live in Grove City

PITTSBURGH -- Alexander "Alex" H. Blair, Point Breeze, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in West Penn Hospital. He was 84.

Mr. Blair was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Hamilton, Scotland, to James H. Blair and Jeanie Henderson Blair.

He was an employee of West Penn Hospital for more than 15 years.

Mr. Blair was a Presbyterian.

He was a brother of the late Agnes Goldie, Margaret Lindsay and Jean Lewis; uncle of William Lewis and his wife Dee, Grove City; great-uncle of Douglas Lewis, Cincinnati; Brian Lewis, Orlando, Fla.; Scott Lewis and Elizabeth Mattocks, both Grove City; and great-great-uncle of Kyle Lewis, Cameron Lewis and Caden Mattocks.

Dr. Frederick Jacob Raisch

Former Hermitage physician was pathologist specialist

Dr. Frederick Jacob Raisch, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of 529 N. Keel Ridge Road, in Hermitage, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday (1-28-02) in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township. He was 95.

Dr. Raisch was born March 30, 1906, in Hastings, Mich., to Martin and Christina Raisch.

He was reared in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he was an alumnus of Central High School and attended Calvin College.

In 1929, Dr. Raisch earned a bachelor's degree from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He graduated from Boston University Medical School in 1935 and finished his post-graduate studies in 1948 at University of Chicago. He completed his residency in pathology at St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago from 1948-51 and became certified in pathologic anatomy and clinical pathology.

Dr. Raisch worked for seven years in the general practice of medicine in Michigan and served four years in AAFTTC Medical Corps during World War II.

A pathologist, he was employed by various hospitals in Illinois, Michigan and Ohio, and worked for what is now Sharon Regional Health System and the former Bashline Hospital in Grove City.

Dr. Raisch was a pathologist for the office of Mercer County Coroner for several years.

He was a member of American Medical Association; American Society of Clinical Pathology; College of American Pathologists; American Association of Blood Banks; and Mercer County Historical Society.

He married Anne Reiff Raisch on April 10, 1937.

For 35 years, with his wife Anne, Dr. Raisch was an active antique dealer in Gray Cottage Antiques, Hermitage.

He belonged to Christ Lutheran Church in Sharon.

He is survived by his wife, a resident in Countryside Convalescent Home.

Dr. Raisch was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Arthur; and two sisters, Louise and Mildred.

Carole A. Wilcox

Sharon woman was music teacher, dog groomer

Carole A. Wilcox, 210 S. Myers Ave., Sharon, formerly of Altoona, Pa., died early Monday morning, Jan. 28, 2002, in the home of her son, following an extended illness. She was 63.

Mrs. Wilcox was born March 6, 1939, in Sharon, a daughter of Dwight Guynn and Violet E. Myers Guynn.

A 1957 Sharon High School graduate, she earned a bachelor's degree in teaching from Indiana State University.

Mrs. Wilcox was a music teacher for eight years at Penn-Cambria High School in Cresson, Pa., and taught piano lessons privately in her home for five or six years. She was also a substitute teacher in Sharon and Hermitage School districts.

While she was living in Altoona, Mrs. Wilcox operated a dog grooming shop for about 10 years.

She relocated to the Shenango Valley in 1995.

Surviving are: her husband, Dale A. Wilcox, whom she married in January of 1958, at home; one son, Martin T. Wilcox; and her mother, Violet Myers, both Espyville; and one brother, Wayne D. Guynn, Michigan.

Mrs. Wilcox was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Dwight "Duffy" Guynn Jr.

Dorothy B. Biggins

Sharpsville woman belonged to St. Joe's, hospital auxiliary

A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday for Dorothy B. Biggins of 599 Seventh St., Sharpsville. She died at 10:18 p.m. Sunday (1-27-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of natural causes. She was 88.

Mrs. Biggins was born March 16, 1913, in Sharon, a daughter of Thomas J. and Blanche Chandley Burke.

A 1931 graduate of Sharon High School, she was a life member of Sharon Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

As a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon, Mrs. Biggins belonged to the Women's Guild and was an associate of the Newman Circle.

She was an avid bridge player.

Her husband, Dr. James A. Biggins, whom she married June 29, 1940, died July 12, 1983.

She is survived by: two sons, Thomas P. Biggins, Dallas; and James A. Biggins Jr., at home; one grandchild; and a brother, J. William Burke, Mission Hills, Kansas.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Biggins was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Murphy and Margaret "Peg" Kissinger; and three brothers, T.J. "Chan" Burke, G. Robert Burke and J. Edward Burke.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Sharpsville Historical Society; or the Mental Health and Retardation Association.

Yvonne J. Edwards

Yvonne was devoted mother, devoted family member

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday for Yvonne J. Edwards, 5070 Cassidy Road, Hermitage. She died at 5:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, from injuries sustained in an automobile crash. She was 71.

Mrs. Edwards was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Butler to Harold Leo King and Justine Genevieve Weitzel King.

She graduated from Butler High School and retired in 1991 after 20 years of employment in the accounting department data processing center of First National Bank of Mercer County.

Mrs. Edwards was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon and also regularly attended St. Bernadette's Church in Masury.

She loved playing cards and reading and belonged to the Hickory Moose Euchre Club.

Mrs. Edwards also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Her husband, Glenn H. Edwards, whom she married Sept. 8, 1956, died Nov. 30, 1984.

Surviving are: three daughters, Deidre A. Bottenfield and Mrs. Dale (Lynda) Kelly, both Sharon; and Mrs. Brian (Glennon) McBride, Hermitage, with whom she made her home; one son, Adam Edwards and his wife Marcy, Clark; 12 grandchildren, Justine and Daniel Shea; Stephen, Alexis and Morgan McBride; Corie Bottenfield and Daniel Bottenfield Jr.; Christopher, Ian and Michael Kelly; and Austin and Conner Edwards; two brothers, William King and his wife Alice, New Castle; and Alden King and his wife Pat, Butler; and 30 nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Jason Bottenfield; and three sisters, Patricia Callahan, Shirley Ann Thomas and Dixie Lee King.
