Homemaker was cook, baker for former Sandy Lake Diner

Rosella K. Bock of 10 Dean Road, Sandy Lake Township, died at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday (2-13-02) in Grove Manor, Grove City, after a brief illness. She was 86.

Mrs. Bock was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Collier Township, Allegheny County, to Dominick and Katherine Kreiger Gendt.

She was a graduate of Oakdale (Pa.) High School and worked for many years as a cook and pastry baker for the former Sandy Lake Diner.

Mrs. Bock was a homemaker and loved to cook for her family and friends.

She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

She married Steve Bock on May 21, 1938. He preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1982.

Surviving are: three daughters, Dolores J. Baker, Seneca, Pa.; Mildred "Beanie" Colussy, Stoneboro; and Louise Bock, Franklin; three sons, Ronald L. Bock and his wife Beverly, Grove City; Donald Bock and his wife Martha, Edison, N.J.; and Richard Naser, Sandy Lake; two sisters, Elizabeth Reinstadtler, McMurray, Pa.; and Amelia "Babe" Jarosh, Oakdale; one brother, John Gendt, Oakdale; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Bock was preceded in death by one son, Melvin Dale Bock; one sister, Emma; and two brothers, August and Ferdinand.

James V. Elia

Retired Dean Dairy driver was WWII Marines veteran

A funeral service will be held Friday for James V. Elia of 2105 Parkdale Ave., Hermitage. He passed away at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 81.

Born Oct. 18, 1920, in Bianchi Cosenza, Italy, Mr. Elia was a son of the late Geralamo and Catherine Elia.

Mr. Elia immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island as a young boy, having settled in Farrell. He graduated from Farrell High School and then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, serving for about four years.

Mr. Elia retired as a driver for Dean Dairy in South Pymatuning Township, where he worked for 30 years. He previously worked at the former Carnegie Works in Farrell.

For five years, Mr. Elia had also owned and operated a business in Farrell selling potato chips and other items.

A member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404 in Sharpsville, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific theater, including the Salamine Islands, New Guinean Guam, New Caledonia, Truck Island and Guadal Canal.

An outdoorsman, Mr. Elia was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at his camp in Elk County, where he belonged to the Highland Sportsman Club.

He also enjoyed mornings at the West Middlesex Inn drinking coffee with his friends.

On Oct. 25, 1947, he married the former Florence Tataseo. She preceded him in death Oct. 11, 1996.

Survivors include: one son, Rick Elia, New Castle; one sister, Mary Vecchio Hubbard; two brothers, Carmen Elia and Sam Elia, both Hermitage; and one nephew, Nick Vecchio, Hubbard.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Elia was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Cyril R. Klucher

WE retiree, a Marines vet, volunteered at VFW course

Private services will be held for Cyril R. Klucher of Woodland Place, Coolspring Township, formerly of North Keel Ridge Road in Hermitage. He passed away at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a brief illness. He was 76.

Born July 4, 1925, in Hubbard, Mr. Klucher was a son of the late John and Elizabeth Koshala Klucher.

A 1943 graduate of Hubbard High School, he retired in 1985 as a painter from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he worked for 20 years. Mr. Klucher had previously worked at Youngs-town Fire Proofing for 15 years.

A member of St. Patrick's Church in Hubbard, he was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166 in Hermitage; and belonged to Knights of Columbus Council 2072 in Hubbard.

He was an avid golfer and volunteered at Hickory VFW Golf Course for many years. He also enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Klucher was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Survivors include: his wife, the former Shirley J. Wilson MacIntyre, whom he married Jan. 15, 1965; three daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Thelma) Romain, West Middlesex; and Barbara Klaric; and Mrs. Charles (Linda) Pope, both Sharon; one son, Vernon MacIntyre and his wife Karen, Hubbard; two sisters, Betty Vickers, Florida; and Pauline, Cleveland; one brother, William Klucher and his wife Bernie, West Middlesex; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Klucher was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Klucher and Mary Trope; and two brothers, Mike and John Klucher.

Frank Knapp

Mercer man formerly of Sharon was WWII veteran

Frank Knapp of Evergreen Drive, Mercer, formerly of Sharon, died at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday (2-13-02) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after an extended illness. He was 80.

Mr. Knapp was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Sharon to William J. and Barbara Anna Dignall Knapp.

He attended Sharon area schools.

Mr. Knapp was on a service-connected disability from the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran, having served in Panama, Australia and the Pacific theater of operations.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Mr. Knapp was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Wilbur Rhoades Post 6345; and American Legion Post 159, both Mercer.

He is survived by: one sister, Dorothy Myers, Jackson Center; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Knapp was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and seven brothers.

Esther E. Langdon

Sharon woman belonged to Jehovah's Witnesses

Esther E. Langdon of 1690 McDowell St., Sharon, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday evening (2-13-02) in her residence following a brief illness. She was 95.

Mrs. Langdon was born Oct. 15, 1906, in Sharon, a daughter of John R. and Emma Ritter Walker.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Hermitage.

In her early years, Mrs. Langdon had been employed as a secretary in the engineering department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 12 years.

Her husband, William L. Langdon, whom she married in 1936, died Aug. 8, 1965.

She is survived by: a daughter, Anita Mae Langdon, at home; and two nephews, Robert L. Morgan and his wife Bettylou, Sharon; and H. James Morgan and his wife Thelma, Overland Park, Kansas.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Langdon was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Johns, Florence Morgan and Mabel Nelson.

Rose Marie Errera Mattern

Beloved Disciple member was nurse in GC hospitals

Rose Marie Errera Mattern, Big Oak Mobile Home Park, 620 E. Main St., Grove City, formerly of Park Street, also Grove City; and Rocky Grove, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. She was 92.

Mrs. Mattern was born Jan. 19, 1910, in Hillsville, Lawrence County, to Alexander and Madeline Zingero Micco.

A resident of Grove City from 1926 to 1985, she lived in Rocky Grove from 1985 to 1994. After the death of her second husband, she returned to Grove City in 1994, where she currently resided.

Mrs. Mattern was a licensed practical nurse for more than 40 years, working at the former Bashline Memorial Hospital in Grove City and at the former Grove City Hospital.

She was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City.

Her first husband, Peter Errera, whom she married Nov. 20, 1926, died Feb. 15, 1982. Her second husband, Claire Mattern, whom she married July 6, 1985, is deceased.

Surviving are: two sons, Anthony "Tony" Errera Sr. and his wife Donna Errera, Grove City; and John Errera and his wife Pauline L. Errera, Kent, Ohio; three stepchildren, Janet Greggs and Elaine Bell, both Franklin; and Linda Gardner, Clearwater, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 28 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her first and second husbands, Mrs. Mattern was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Mary Ross Alfreno, Jean Marie Pagni, Santina Bombardier and Anna Amico; two brothers, Benny and John Micco; and one grandson, Patrick Errera.

Kenneth V. Moon

Cooper Bessemer retiree had lived in Jackson Center

Kenneth V. Moon, 91, of Woodland Place Inc., Coolspring Township, formerly of Jackson Center, died Wednesday afternoon (2-13-02) in the nursing home. He was 91.

Mr. Moon was born on April 30, 1910, in Jackson Center to John R. and Elfie B. Turner Moon.

He went to Jackson Center schools and married Beulah E. Robson on Nov. 7, 1933. She died Feb. 7, 1970.

Mr. Moon married the former Pearl Hall in 1974.

He worked for Venco Coal Co., Foster Grading, Buckeye School and retired in 1983 from what was Cooper Bessemer, Grove City.

He was a life member of Jackson Center Fire Co.'s Fire Police and Jackson Center Field and Stream Club.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by three sons, Kenneth L. and Raymond D. "Dewey" both Mercer; and Thomas R. "Duke," Erie; six stepchildren, Linda, Ruth, Carol, Debbie, Buddy and Billy; four brothers, Wallace, Williamsport, Pa.; Raymond, Mercer; and Paul and Russell; three sisters, Della Dick, Jackson Center; Blanche McClearn, Stoneboro; and Lucille Urmson; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; an infant daughter, Elsie Louise; a son, Jack; an infant sister, Madlin; and two sisters, Florence Campbell and Dorothy.

Robert E. Morris

Decorated vet was retired Nugent maintenance worker

A funeral service will be held Friday for Robert E. Morris, 745 Dutch Lane, Hermitage. He passed away at 4:38 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, of natural causes in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, from complications after surgery. He was 73.

Mr. Morris was born May 15, 1928, in Sharon to John and June Smith Morris.

He retired in 1990 as a maintenance department worker for Nugent Convalescent Home in Hermitage. Mr. Morris previously worked at the former W.T. Grant store in Hermitage.

He was a decorated Army veteran, having served as a Sergeant First Class in Germany, Korea and in the Vietnam conflict. Mr. Morris received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, Armed Forces Expedition Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.

He also received a Korean Service Medal-United Nations, Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam, Presidential Unit Citation-Korea, Meritorious Unit Commendation and Presidential Unit Citation. He served for 24 years, retiring on Aug. 1, 1969.

Mr. Morris enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and collecting tools.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Ruth E. Gamble, at home; two daughters, Bonnie K. Gorichky, wife of Lawrence "Larry" Sr., Mercer; and Valarie A. Spangler, wife of Norman "Norm" Jr., Hermitage; one son, David P. Morris, husband of Joanne, Greenville; one sister, Dorothy J. Morris; and one brother, Franklyn "Pete" H. Morris, husband of Edge, all Sharon; four grandsons, Robert Morris, Alabama; Lawrence Gorichky Jr., Sharpsville; Norman Spangler III; and Cory Spangler, both Hermitage; and one granddaughter, Stacy Gorichky, Sharon.

Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jackie and William Morris; and a granddaughter, Tammy Gorichky.

Edward F. Sullivan

Retired Petrini agent served on John XXIII board

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday for Edward F. Sullivan of John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of Spruce Avenue in Sharon. He passed away at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in John XXIII Home. He was 80.

Born Jan. 5, 1922, in Sharon, Mr. Sullivan was a son of the late John L. and Cecelia Hammond Sullivan.

He attended Sacred Heart Schools in Sharon and graduated from Sharon High School Class of 1940. Mr. Sullivan was also an alumnus of Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

A licensed Realtor and insurance agent in Pennsylvania, he retired from Petrini Realty and Insurance Co., Sharon, where he worked for nearly 40 years. He served on the board of directors at John XXIII Home for more than 20 years and was board president for two of those years.

Mr. Sullivan was an active member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, where he was a lector and served on the parish council. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 684, Sharon, and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during World War II.

On April 16, 1955, Mr. Sullivan married the former Emelia H. Thomas. She preceded him in death June 22, 1992.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Thomas F. (Judith A.) Coughlin, Northbrook, Ill.; three sons, Edward T. Sullivan and his wife Carol, Milwaukee, Wis.; Patrick T. Sullivan, York, Pa.; and John L. Sullivan and his wife Julie, Cincinnati; four sisters, Clara Petrini, West Middlesex; Alma Wagner, Long Island, N.Y.; Sister Cecelia Sullivan and Sister Bernadette Sullivan, both Order of St. Benedict, Erie; two brothers, William Sullivan and his wife Teresa; and Timothy Sullivan and his wife Donna, all Cleveland; and eight grandchildren, Matthew, Benjamin, Brandon, Justin, Nathaniel and Tyler Sullivan; and Thomas and Colleen Coughlin.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Sullivan was preceded in death by three sisters, Theresa Sullivan, Mary Curry and Cecelia Bracken; and two brothers, John and James Sullivan.

Raymond C. Wolbert

WWII vet worked for A&P in Grove City, retired from GCC

Raymond C. Wolbert, formerly of Edgewood Avenue, Grove City, died after a six-year illness at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday (2-13-02) in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, where he had lived for one-and-a-half years. He was 78.

Mr. Wolbert was born June 21, 1923, in Springfield Township, to John Charles and Genevieve Gatesman Wolbert.

The Mercer High School alumnus was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.

He retired from Grove City College in food service, working as a meat butcher.

Mr. Wolbert previously worked more than 40 years as meat department manager for A&P of Grove City.

He was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City; Grove City American Legion John R. Huff Post 220; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Grove City Lodge 1579; and United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

His wife, the former Jennie Louise John, whom he married Oct. 8, 1946, died May 5, 1994.

Surviving are: two daughters, Jean Ann Conaway, Meadville; and Mrs. Jeffrey A. (Patricia L.) Rouse, Grove City; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, John, Howard, Leo and Thomas Wolbert.
