Martha M. Foy
W. Salem woman was dietary aide at Greenville hospital

A funeral service will be held Saturday for Martha M. Foy, 68 Orangeville Road, West Salem Township. She died at 1:01 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, in her home. She was 69.

Mrs. Foy was born May 29, 1932, in Greenville to Elmer and Violet Hopkins Carlson.

She attended the former Penn High School in Greenville and was a dietary aide for 25 years at what was Greenville Regional Hospital, retiring in 1986.

Mrs. Foy was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Greenville; and the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374 in Hempfield Township.

She enjoyed bowling.

Surviving are: her husband, Clifford R. Foy Jr., whom she married May 29, 1951, at home; four sons, Kenneth R. Foy, Ronald L. Foy Sr. and Glenn R. Foy Sr., all Greenville; and Charles E. Foy, Aurora, Colo.; four brothers, Edward Carlson, Robert Carlson, James Carlson and David Carlson, all Greenville; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Foy was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Brian M. Foy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Avenue, Sharon 16146; or the American Heart Association, 59 N. Crescent Drive, Hermitage 16148.

Mrs. Clifford R. (Martha M.) Jr., 69, of 68 Orangeville Road, West Salem Township.

Agnes Meyers, 1146 Wallis Ave., Farrell, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday (2-14-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 90.

Robert E. VanDyke

Retired trucker, equipment operator had been at Cooper

Robert E. VanDyke, Pine Street, Harrisville, borough of Barkeyville, died at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in his residence. He was 62.

Mr. VanDyke was born May 6, 1939, in Marion Township, Butler County, to J. Eugene VanDyke and Esta F. Pickford VanDyke.

He retired as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator and formerly was employed by Cooper Energy Services Reciprocating Products in Grove City.

Mr. VanDyke attended First Church of God of Grove City.

He was a classic car enthusiast.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Judy A. Coursen, whom he married Dec. 18, 1993, at the residence; a daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Beth A.) Foster, Harrisville; a son, Edward L. Coursen and his wife, Tracy, Boyers; and his father, Franklin.

His mother preceded him in death.

Myron A. Newell
Pastor was retired counselor for state employment office

A funeral service will be held Saturday for Rev. Myron A. Newell, 7049 E. State St., Hermitage. He died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following a brief illness. He was 63.

Rev. Newell was born Nov. 16, 1938, in Vandergrift, Pa., to Paul Newell and Rebecca Hunter Newell.

He served in the Army during peacetime as a first lieutenant based in Alexandria, Va.

Rev. Newell graduated in 1956 from Vandergrift High School and went on to Pennsylvania State University, where he received his degree in animal husbandry. He then went to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

Rev. Newell worked for the Pennsylvania State Employment Office of Hermitage for 25 years as a counselor. He retired in 1998.

During that time, he was also a Presbyterian minister and a pastor of churches in Mars, Leesburg and Pulaski. He then became an interim minister, working at many different churches. Rev. Newell was still active in the ministry until November 2001, when he preached in Pulaski.

He attended Faith Presbyterian Church in Hermitage.

Rev. Newell enjoyed flowers, gardening and reading.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Helen Cummings, whom he married June 25, 1961, at home; his mother, Butler; three sons, twins and their spouses, Steven Newell and his wife, Pam; and David Newell and his wife, Kate, all Littleton, Colo.; and Todd Andrew Timberlake-Newell and his wife, Elizabeth, Gilbertsville, Pa.; two sisters, Myrla Wagner, Indianapolis.; and Mrs. James (Iris) Henderson, Chicago; a brother, Charles Newell and his wife, Ruth, Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren, Benjamin Newell, Patrick Riley Newell and Tanner Newell.

Rev. Newell was preceded in death by his father.

Kenneth V. Moon

Longtime coal worker was fire unit, fire police member

Kenneth V. Moon of Woodland Place Inc., Coolspring Township, formerly of Jackson Center, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 13, 2002, in the nursing home. He was 91.

Mr. Moon was born on April 30, 1910, in Jackson Center to John R. and Elfie B. Turner Moon.

He went to Jackson Center schools and married Beulah E. Robson on Nov. 7, 1933. She died Feb. 7, 1970.

Mr. Moon married the former Pearl Hall in 1974. She died in 1984.

He worked for Venco Coal Co.; Buckeye Coal Co., where he worked until 1960; Center Coal Co., Jackson Center, until 1967; and Foster Grading Co., from which he retired in 1975. Mr. Moon later retired in 1983 from C&K Coal Co.

He was an active life member of the Jackson Center Volunteer Fire Co.; and belonged to the Mercer County Fire Police; and Jackson Field and Stream Club.

Mr. Moon was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by three sons, Kenneth L. and Raymond D. "Dewey" both Mercer; and Thomas R. "Duke," Erie; six stepchildren, Linda, Ruth, Carol, Debbie, Buddy and Billy; four brothers, Wallace, Williamsport, Pa.; Raymond, Mercer; and Paul and Russell; three sisters, Della Dick, Jackson Center; Blanche McClearn, Stoneboro; and Lucille Urmson; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Moon was preceded in death by his first and second wives; an infant daughter, Elsie Louise Moon; a son, Jack Moon; and two sisters, Madlin Roper and Florence Campbell.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Jackson Center Volunteer Fire Department or the Jackson Center Field and Stream Club.
