Mrs. Rose Marie Kocis

Mrs. Rose Marie Kocis, 427 Buckeye Drive, South Pymatuning Township, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday (2-15-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 84.

George W. Batley

Franklin resident was welder for Trinity Industries

FRANKLIN -- George W. Batley, 72, of 372 Congress Hill Road, Franklin, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday (2-15-02) in UPMC Northwest Medical Center, Franklin.

Mr. Batley was born Dec. 9, 1929, in Grove City to George W. Batley Sr. and Helen Swartz Batley.

He was a welder for Trinity Industries' former Greenville Rail Car Division.

Mr. Batley was a member of Franklin Moose Club; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Franklin; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Greenville Lodge 145; PNA Club in Oil City; and Franklin Eagles Aerie.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Vivian Hagerty, whom he married April 27, 1963; a brother, Paul Batley and a sister, Mrs. James (Minnie) Stevenson, both Mercer; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; a brother, Richard Wayne Batley; and five sisters, Ethel Mae Fabry, Sarah E. McConnell, Helen I. Simmons, Gloria "Snooks" Burk and an infant, Shirley Batley, preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to Venango County Humane Society, Deep Hollow Road, Franklin RD 2, 16323.

Helen G. Wescott

Co-owned, operated Wescott's Grocery Store

Funeral service will be Monday (2-18-02) for Helen G. Wescott, 4445 Mercer St., New Lebanon. She died at 6:57 p.m. Thursday (2-14-02) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after an extended illness. She was 92.

She was born Dec. 19, 1909, in Espyville Station, Crawford County, to Anthony Wayne and Margaret J. Firster Collins.

She was a graduate of Oil City High School.

In her early years she worked at Talon Inc. in Meadville.

She married Clifford G. "CG" Wescott on Sept. 2, 1934. He died March 24, 1980.

Along with her husband, she owned and operated the former Wescott's Grocery Store, New Lebanon, for more than 30 years.

She was a member of New Lebanon Community Church, Mill Creek Township, and its Ladies Aid Society.

A member of the former New Lebanon Grange for many years, she also belonged to Princess Rebekah Lodge 442, Sandy Lake.

She loved to drive and loved her independence. She enjoyed crocheting and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her cats.

Surviving are: two sons, Richard D. Wescott, and his wife, Ruth, Seattle; and Thomas C. Wescott, and his wife, Nancy, Sandy Lake; two nieces whom she helped to rear, Mrs. Cornelius (Jean) Deal and Mrs. David (Patricia) Coulter, both Stoneboro; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bennett Collins; a nephew, Robert Collins; and two great-nephews, Richard and Ronald Collins.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Lebanon Community Church, 4166 Mercer St., Sandy Lake 16145.
