Lorraine D. McKee Sharon Steel retiree, WWII vet belonged to WM church A funeral and committal service will be held Thursday for Lorraine D. McKee, 33 Buckwalter Road, Shenango Township. He died at 7:05 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following a lengthy illness. He was 84. Mr. McKee was born March 27, 1917, in East Brady, Pa., to Lee McKee and Cora Barger McKee. He retired in 1980 after 30 years from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he was a group leader. Mr. McKee was a member of West Middlesex United Methodist Church. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a staff sergeant in the European theater during World War II. His wife, the former Ruth H. Milliren, whom he married April 26, 1938, died June 9, 1998. Surviving are: one daughter, Barbara, wife of Bruce Johnson, Hermitage; one son, William and his wife Mary McKee, West Middlesex; and three grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. McKee was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald McKee and Laverne McKee; and one sister, Thelma Tribley. Memorial contributions may be made to West Middlesex United Methodist Church, 3123 Main St., Box 327, West Middlesex 16159.

A funeral service will be held Thursday for Richard Lee Knapp, 205 Fourth St., Sharon. He died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2002, in Kane (Pa.) Community Hospital following an extended illness. Richard succumbed to a losing battle with cancer. He was 56. Mr. Knapp was born Aug. 31, 1945, in Sharon to Joseph W. Knapp Sr. and Polly L. Brown Knapp. He attended Sharon High School and worked at Sharon News Agency. He also attended West Side Baptist Church in Sharpsville. Richard was an avid sports fan, especially baseball. He enjoyed attending Pittsburgh Pirates games. He enjoyed being with his family. He will be missed a great deal. Surviving are: four brothers, Wesley D. Knapp, Brookfield; Joseph W. Knapp Jr.; and James A. Knapp and his wife Joyce, all Sharon; and Ronald D. Knapp and his wife Jean, Kane; two sisters, Joyce Gee and her husband Jon, Sharon; and Darlene S. Muszik and her husband, Charles, Hermitage; and 32 nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his father, who died June 11, 1975; and his mother, who died March 26, 2000.
KNAPP Nathaniel Parks Sears retiree, Farrell church member was WWII veteran A funeral service will be held Friday for Nathaniel Parks, 111 Florida St., Farrell. He passed away at 8:15 p.m. Sunday (3-3-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 81. Mr. Parks was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Roaring River, N.C., to Mansfield Parks and Josephine Boatwright Parks. He was currently employed in the custodial department of Mercer County Area Agency on Aging; and retired as a supervisor of shipping and receiving for Sears in the Shenango Valley Mall, Hermitage. He was also previously employed by the former Sharpsville Furnace. As a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church in Farrell, Mr. Parks was a trustee and a former chairman of the finance committee. A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1941 to 1945, participating in battles in Rome-Arno and in the Rhineland during World War II, having achieved the rank of staff sergeant. Mr. Parks belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Murray-Bell Post 7597 in Farrell. His wife, the former Julia Belle Swope, whom he married in 1949, died in 1988. Surviving are: nine daughters, Beverly Nelson, Starlette Parks, Josephine Parks and Cynthia Parks Freeman, all Fitchburg, Mass.; Karen Parks, Kansas City, Mo.; Karen Sampson and Sharon Wilder, both Hermitage; Rachel Parks, Atlanta; and Claudell Whitehead and her husband Albert, Farrell; two sons, Nathaniel Parks Jr. and his wife Patricia, Hermitage; and Vernon Parks and his wife Birgit, Farrell; one sister, Ruth Ann Parks, Alston, N.C.; two brothers, Melvin Parks and Gordon Parks, both North Carolina; 31 grandchildren, Teniya, Billy, Charmaine, Rodney, Allen, Johnny, Angela, Jessica, Kia, Ray, Yvonne, Quelonda, Adrian, Tavares, Miesha, Alesha, Nathaniel III, Malkia, Jutoy, Eian, Latasha, Trina, Sejonia, Nicholas, Vernon Jr., Darrell, Theodore, LeShaun, SheLauna, Lester Jr. and Angela Johnson; 32 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Besides his wife, Mr. Parks was preceded in death by his parents.
PARKS Dorothy L. Neider Dorothy L. Neider, 119 Sharon-Bedford Road, Shenango Township, died at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday (3-5-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. Obituary information was incomplete.
NEIDER Shirley E. Goforth Former Sharon woman was personal care home caretaker A funeral service will be held Thursday for Shirley E. Goforth of 1860 River Road in Hermitage, formerly of 294 Prindle St. in Sharon. She passed away at 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in her residence after an extended illness. She was 64. Mrs. Goforth was born May 26, 1937, in Freedom, Pa., a daughter of Carl Raymond Schell and Lillian Copper Schell. A 1956 alumna of Philadelphia High School, she was a caretaker for 15 years at Crosby Personal Care Home in Sharon. Mrs. Goforth was of the Christian faith and a volunteer with the former Sunshine Society in Sharon. She collected roosters and chickens. As a vital part of the lives of her grandchildren, Mrs. Goforth helped rear them. In the winter, she enjoyed sled-riding with her children and grandchildren. Surviving are: one daughter, Gerri Adams, with whom she made her home; two sons, Mark Porterfield, Sharon; and Ted Porterfield and his wife Linda, Cedartown, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Neal (Nancy Jane) Swartz, Brookfield; and Mrs. Mike (Beverly June) Stowe; and Mrs. Vince (Gloria Jean) Barger, both Hermitage; one brother, William Franklin Schell and his wife Billie, Jonesboro, Ga.; a special friend, Dawn Schell, Sharon; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Goforth was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Ruth Ann Porterfield and Cindy Keller; two grandchildren, Tera Keller and Elissa Adams; four brothers, Robert Edward Schell Sr., Gerald Richard Schell, Carl Lee Schell and Carl Ray Schell; and her stepmother, Shirley Schell Pollock.
GOFORTH Lawrence D. Campbell North Carolina man formerly of Sharon had brother here MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. -- Lawrence D. Campbell, Bogue, N.C., formerly of Sharon, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Carteret General Hospital. He was 75. Mr. Campbell was born May 10, 1926, in Sharon to Robert Clarence and Bertha Lewis Campbell. He retired from civil service in Cherry Point, N.C. Surviving are: his wife, the former Clarus R. Gordon Russell, at home; a son, Steven Robert Campbell, Bogue; two sisters, Alma Foltz, Okeechobee, Fla.; and Rosella Harrison, Hermitage; and a brother, Glen Campbell, Sharon.
CAMPBELL David Isaac Roqueplot David Isaac Roqueplot, 73 Erie St., West Middlesex, died unexpectedly at 1:20 a.m. today (3-6-02) in his home. He was 25. Obituary information was incomplete.
