Betty L. Gill
Former Hermitage woman of Fla. had son living here

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Betty L. Gill, Orange Park, died at 4:30 p.m.Monday, March 11, 2002, in her home in Orange Park after a long illness. She was 75.

Mrs. Gill was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Crown Point, Ind., to Bennett Hatton and Grace Hill Hatton.

She had resided in Orange Park for two years.

Mrs. Gill was a former 10-year resident of Georgetown, Fla.; and had also resided in Brooksville, Ohio; and Hermitage.

She loved crocheting in her spare time.

Survivors are: her beloved husband, Robert F. Gill, Orange Park; two sons, Robert B. Gill, Hermitage; and Gary Gill, Middleburg, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia Pelletier, Eustis, Fla.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A cremation was arranged in San Mateo, Fla.


James R. King
James R. King, 992 Jackson Center-Polk Road, Stoneboro, died at 7:46 p.m. Thursday (3-14-02) in the emergency room of United Community Hospital, Pine Township. He was 46.

John H. Ring, 579 S. Mercer Ave., Hermitage, died at 10:52 p.m. Thursday (3-14-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 81.

Carrie E. Stevenson Hilgar

Grove City College retiree was member of Grace U.M.

Carrie E. Stevenson Hilgar, 420 Maple St., Grove City, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, following an extended illness. She was 91.

Mrs. Hilgar was born Oct. 23, 1910, in West Sunbury, Butler County, to William M. and Sarah Elizabeth Joshua Stevenson.

She retired from Grove City College, where she was a waitress in the college "Gedunk."

Mrs. Hilgar was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City.

Her husband, Paul N. Hilgar, whom she married Aug. 23, 1927, died July 16, 1964.

Surviving are: one son, James H. "Pinky" Hilgar, Ormond Beach, Fla.; one sister, Violet Morris, Butler; two grandchildren, Cynthia Lee Sweet, South Wales, N.Y.; and Dennis J. Hilgar, Seoul, Korea; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren E. Sweet, Kimberly Ann Sweet and Douglas S. Sweet, all South Wales.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Hilgar as preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Bertha Gardner; and one brother, Samuel Stevenson.

Andrew P. Muszik

Retiree was WWII Army vet, belonged to Good Shepherd

Andrew P. Muszik of John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of 93 Lakeview Drive, West Middlesex, passed away at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 82.

Born Nov. 22, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Mr. Muszik was a son of the late James and Catherine Sabo Muszik.

A 1938 graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage, he retired in 1982 as a lithograph operator from U.S. Steel Products in Masury after 39 years of service.

Mr. Muszik was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Pacific theater of operations.

Survivors include: his wife, the former Louise B. David, a resident of John XXIII Home, whom he married Oct. 10, 1959; one sister, Julia Bailey, Hermitage; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law including David and Helen David, Lackawannock Township; Mary Ann David, also Lackawannock Township; Betty Jane Paluga, Boardman, Ohio; Tamzon Muszik, Sharon; and Joseph Plawky, Hermitage.

Mr. Muszik also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Muszik; one sister, Ann Plawky; an infant sister; and two infant brothers.

John R. Sankey

Railroad retiree was WWII vet, wrestling referee, Mason

A funeral service will be held Saturday for John R. Sankey, 1415 Wakefield Drive, Hermitage. He died at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in the skilled care unit of Sharon Regional Health System of natural causes after a brief illness. He was 76.

Mr. Sankey was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Sharon to Howard and Elizabeth Crea Sankey.

He retired after more than 30 years as a brakeman/conductor from Erie Lackawanna Railroad in Sharon.

Mr. Sankey was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran for 3½ years, having served in Europe, England, France and the invasion of Normandy on the USS Bellatrux as a rank signalman.

He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Lodge 668 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166 in Hermitage.

Mr. Sankey also belonged to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon.

An avid golfer, he belonged to the VFW, the Independent and the Inn 62 golf leagues.

Mr. Sankey was a high school wrestling referee and enjoyed reading, watching television and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Ruth E. Brenneman, whom he married March 19, 1949; a daughter, Barbara A. Olson; and one son, Gary Sankey, all at home; one sister, Ruth Headings, wife of Raymond, Sharon; two brothers, William Sankey, husband of Shirley, Sharpsville; and Raymond Sankey, husband of Rosemarie, Masury; two grandsons, Jason Olson, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Matthew Olson, Hermitage; and one granddaughter, Abigail Olson, Hermitage.

Mr. Sankey was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Sankey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Avenue, Sharon 16146; or to Mercer County Agency for the Retarded, 850 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage 16148.

He will be buried with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166 in Hermitage.

Ida LaCivita

WE retiree was county bowling hall of fame member

YOUNGSTOWN -- Ida LaCivita, 77, of South Schenley Avenue, Youngstown, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002 in her home.

Mrs. LaCivita was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Youngstown to Rocco and Rose Mazzoni Agostino.

The 1942 Farrell High School alumna retired in 1984 after 40 years with the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

Mrs. LaCivita was a member of St. Brendan Church, Youngstown; Sharon Westinghouse Retirees Association; Youngstown West Side Citizen League; Farrell High School Alumni Association; and Action 1999; Girard (Ohio) Ladies Tuesday Golf League and Doughton Thursday Golf League.

She tutored for Youngstown Labauch Literacy Action.

The member of Women's International Bowling Congress since 1950 was first president of Shenango Valley Women's Bowling Association, director for 15 years and vice president six years.

She was Youngstown Women's Bowling Association (YWBA) director for five years and Youngstown Junior Bowling Association's president.

The member emeritus of YWBA was inducted in 1986 into the YWBA Hall of Fame. Mrs. LaCivita was inducted in 1990 into the Mercer County Bowling Hall of Fame.

She bowled in many leagues in Sharon and Youngstown and was to be inducted this May into Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame for Bowling.

Her husband, Louis LaCivita, whom she married Aug. 3, 1963, died Aug. 27, 1981.

Surviving are: a nephew, Floyd W. Agostino and his wife, Mary Ann, Hermitage; a niece, Mrs. Frank (Jean) Petrucci, West Middlesex; several great-nephews and -nieces; and several great-great- nieces and -nephews.

Virginia L. Flick Flickinger

Pine Twp. homemaker was First Church of God member

Virginia L. Flick Flickinger, 27 Tieline Road, Pine Township, died at 3 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2002, in Trinity Living Center, Grove City, following a brief illness. She was 81.

Mrs. Flickinger was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Rimersburg, Pa., to Clarence Flick and Emma Mae Mohney Flick.

She was a homemaker who previously worked at the former P. Wall Co., and for JC Penney and Orchard Manor, Pine Township.

Mrs. Flickinger also had been a private caregiver.

She was a member of First Church of God in Grove City.

Surviving are: her husband, Joseph C. Flickinger, whom she married July 3, 1954, Grove City; one son, G. Douglas Flickinger and his wife Linda, also Grove City; one brother, Paul Flick and his wife Doris, Georgia; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Flickinger was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; one sister, Ella Rodgers; and two brothers, Clarence and John Flick.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Avenue, Sharon 16146.
