Richard M. Cobb Korean war vet retired from Boardman, Ohio, company Richard M. Cobb, 3912 Orangeville Road, Hermitage, died at 11:45 a.m. March 24, 2002, in her residence of natural causes after an extended illness. He was 70. Mr. Cobb was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Oberlin, Ohio, to Fred J. Cobb and Frieda Jones Cobb. An Army veteran, he served as a private first class during the Korean conflict. Mr. Cobb retired in 1997 as a machinist for General Extrusion in Boardman, Ohio. He was a member of World Wide Church of God in Youngs-town. Mr. Cobb enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with his family. His wife, the former Alyce B. Mott, whom he married March 28, 1950, survives at home. Also surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Terry (Dinah) Garrison, New Freeport, Pa.; four sons, Richard E. Cobb Jr., Sharon; Rodney D. Cobb, Transfer; Timothy B. Cobb and his wife Shelley, North Canton, Ohio; and Michael J. Cobb, at home in Sharpsville; one brother, James D. Cobb and his wife Saundra, Blasdale, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by his parents. COBB Josephine 'Jo' E. Roman Sharon homemaker belonged to Sacred Heart church Josephine "Jo" E. Roman of 1092 George St. Extension, Sharon, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Clepper Manor, Sharon, after an extended illness. She was 88. Born May 4, 1913, in New Salem, Pa., Mrs. Roman was a daughter of the late Pasquale and Ninfa Bonasera. She attended Patagonia schools and worked for 15 years as a coil winder and group leader for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Jo was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon, and enjoyed playing cards and dancing. A homemaker, she loved growing flowers, doing crossword puzzles and taking long walks each morning with her husband. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her beloved dog, Jake. On Sept. 20, 1941, she married George Roman in Sacred Heart. He survives her at home. In addition, Mrs. Roman leaves: one sister, Rose Russo, a resident of John XXIII Home, Hermitage; one brother, Michael Bonasera and his wife Lena, Warren, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Sunda Sebastian, Concetta LoMagro, Grace Ciolfi and Mary Welch; and one brother, Charles Bonasera. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Sacred Heart, 40 S. Irvine Ave.; or the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Ave., both Sharon 16146. ROMAN Dorothy R. Shutt Former California resident had returned to live here Dorothy R. Shutt of Hospitality Care Center in Hermitage, formerly of Farrell, Las Vegas and California, passed away at 10:40 p.m. Saturday (3-23-02) in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage. She was 82. Mrs. Shutt was born March 31, 1919, in Sharon, a daughter of Arthur and Ruth Cole Bender. Dorothy was reared in Farrell and was a 1938 alumna of Farrell High School. Following her marriage to Robert E. Shutt on July 26, 1945, they moved to the west coast. She was a secretary for the former Tappan Appliance Store in California for many years. Her husband passed away Aug. 23, 1991, and Dorothy returned to the area in October of the same year. Surviving are: three brothers, Arthur Bender, Andover, Ohio; and Kenneth and Alan Bender, both Espyville; two nephews; and two nieces. Besides her husband, Mrs. Shutt was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Homer Bender; and one sister, Naomi Massaro.
SHUTT Ralph A. Hassel Sr. Ralph A. Hassel Sr., 341 E. Jamestown Road, West Salem Township, formerly of Allison Park, Pa., died at 7:05 p.m. Sunday (3-24-02) in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. He was 83. Obituary information was incomplete.
HASSEL Florence M. Stewart Retired Sharon math teacher also taught at Penn State, KC Florence M. Stewart, resident of Nugent Convalescent Home in Hermitage, formerly of 274 Sharpsville Ave. in Sharon, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002, in Nugent Convalescent Home. She was 91. Miss Stewart was born Dec. 22, 1910, in Sharon to Charles Hugh and Catherine Elizabeth Rodgers Stewart. A 1929 alumna of Sharon High School, she graduated in 1933 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and later earned a master's degree in education from Westminster College in New Wilmington. Miss Stewart will best be remembered for her long career at Sharon High School, where she taught mathematics until her retirement in 1972. After her retirement from Sharon schools, she began a career as an educator at the Shenango campus of Pennsylvania State University in Sharon and at what is now Kenneth Catholic High School in Hermitage. Her memberships include Pennsylvania State Education Association; Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association; National Education Association; National Council of Teachers of Mathematics; Alumni Association of Case Western University; and College Club of Sharon. Miss Stewart also belonged to Mercer County Historical Society; Shenango Valley Community Library; and was a former board member of the Visiting Nurses Association. Surviving is a niece, Mrs. Robert (Wealthy) Hayes, Rock River, Ohio. Miss Stewart was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Irene A. Stewart; and one brother, Warren Nelson Stewart. Memorial contributions may be made to Shenango Valley Community Library, 11 N. Sharpsville Ave., Sharon 16146.
