Arlene E. King Retired school teacher lived in Butler, had daughter here NEW CASTLE -- Arlene E. King, 206 Christie Ave., Butler, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Jameson Care Center. She was 88. Mrs. King was born March 10, 1914, in Venango County to William Burton Adams and Harriet Green Adams. An alumna of Slippery Rock University, she retired as a school teacher with 35 years of service in Butler, Venango and Mercer counties. Mrs. King was a life member of Slippery Rock Alumni Association; Order of the Amaranth Court 145 in Butler; Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 180 in Mercer; and belonged to the local and state teacher's associations. She was a past president of the Butler Optimist Club; and belonged to the Butler Women's Club; Sunnyview Auxiliary; and Meridian Rainbow Advisory Board. Mrs. King was a member and former trustee of Christ Community United Methodist Church in Butler. She was an avid bridge player. Her husband, Dr. Thomas W. King, died in 1983. Surviving are: two grandsons, Robert Thomas King, New Castle; and Scott Patrick King, Pottstown, Pa.; one granddaughter, Anne Kathleen Churchman, Mercer; three great-grandchildren; a number of stepgrandchildren; a number of stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Lomneth, Colorado; and Mrs. Taylor (Jean) Heid, California; and one brother, Wendell "Mike" Adams, Pittsburgh. Besides her husband, Mrs. King was preceded in death by a son, Robert D. King; three brothers, Norman, Leonard and Francis Adams; and two sisters, Evelyn Alexander and Ethel Griffin.
KING Dr. Oscar E. Remick Was Westminster College's president emeritus NEW WILMINGTON -- Westminster College President Emeritus Dr. Oscar E. Remick, 69, passed away March 25 in his native Maine following a battle with cancer. Dr. Remick served as president and then chancellor of Westminster College from 1987-97, and was honored as President Emeritus upon his retirement. A nationally-recognized scholar in religion, philosophy, and the arts, Dr. Remick earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern College, a divinity degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and a doctorate from Boston University. An ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), he received seven honorary doctorates in recognition of his contributions to higher education. He was a former chair of the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Universities, the Commission for Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania, and the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities.
Anna Mary Fry LPN, Fatima church member was '58 Brookfield High grad A funeral service will be held Thursday for Anna Mary Fry, White-Cliff Nursing Home, 110 Fredonia Road, Hempfield Township, formerly of Masury. She died at 3:11 p.m. Monday (3-25-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 61. Anna was born on Aug. 12, 1940, in Greenville, a daughter of Frederick and Anna Billen Fry. She was a 1958 alumna of Brookfield High School and a graduate of Choffin School of Practical Nursing, Youngstown. Anna was a licensed practical nurse and had retired in the mid-1970s from John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She had previously been employed at Northside Hospital, Youngstown; UPMC Horizon, Farrell; Orange Village Care Center, Masury; and Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell, where she had also been a religious education teacher. Anna is survived by: a brother, Frederick A. Fry and his wife, Lois, Farrell; a nephew, F. Joseph Fry, Farrell; three aunts, Margaret Brush, Sharon; Mary Billen, Hermitage; and Florence Mihalcin, Sharon; an uncle, John Billen and his wife, Mildred, Masury; six cousins, Nancy Rehner, Hermitage; Susan Jacobs, McDonald, Ohio; Sharon Petrini, Sharon; Joyce Winslow, Hermitage; Robert Brush, Hartford; and Martha Woodworth, Masury; and very close friends Bernadette and Walter Kozen, Sharon. She was preceded in death by her parents; four uncles, Joseph, Albert, Alex and George Billen; an aunt, Agnes Bailey; and two cousins, Ilona Daisley and Blase Brush. FRY Mary S. Beard Longtime Central Christian member was a homemaker Mary S. Beard of 200 Wick Ave. in Hermitage, formerly of 7298 Brookfield Drive in Brookfield, passed away peacefully at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday (3-26-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following an extended illness. She was 84. Mrs. Beard was born July 23, 1917, in Sharon, a daughter of Harry and Isabel Frazier Jackman. She attended Sharon schools. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Beard worked for the former Sharon Store in Sharon. A homemaker, she was a longtime member of Central Christian Church in Hermitage. Mary was an avid bowler and at one time belonged to the Early Risers Bowling League at Sharpsville Bowling Center. She loved to read and had a love for elephants, keeping an extensive collection of all different sizes, shapes and colors. Her husband, Paul Gardner Beard, whom she married Oct. 15, 1940, survives at home. Mrs. Beard also leaves: one daughter, Mrs. Brian (Joan Ann) Johnson, with whom she lived; and one granddaughter, Mrs. John (Lisa Jo) Jones, West Middlesex. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Candyce Mary, Jennifer Ann and William Paul Doerr; and Joshua A. Jones. Also surviving are: one brother, Harry T. Jackman, The Villages, Fla.; and one sister, Isabel Louise Norwood, also Florida. Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, William and Charles Jackman. Eileen Ruth Brunson Thorne Mich. woman, a Grove City native, had lived in Louisiana ALMA, Mich. -- Eileen Ruth Brunson Thorne, 7356 Bagpipe Drive, Alma, formerly of Grove City, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Gratiot Community Hospital after an extended illness. She was 65. Mrs. Thorne was born May 16, 1936, in Grove City to Kenneth Brunson and Lucy Glessner Brunson. She grew up in Grove City and attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Mrs. Thorne was formerly employed at Grove City High School, where she was a secretary for the superintendent for a few years. She also worked as a legal secretary for the district attorney of St. Bernard Parish while living in Louisiana. Multiple sclerosis became a factor in her life as a young adult and severely limited her abilities later in life. Mrs. Thorne was of the Lutheran faith. Surviving are: her husband, William W. Thorne, whom she married Aug. 27, 1954, at home; three children, William Kenneth Thorne and his wife Candy, White Cloud, Mich.; Patrice Anne Johnson, Ithaca, Mich.; and Amy Louise Kruse, Louisville, Ky.; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Thorne was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James Edward Brunson.
THORNE Faith Ann Reeher Antiques collector owned business, sold Avon products A funeral service will be held Thursday for Faith Ann Reeher, 1200 S. Hermitage Road, Hermitage. She died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2002, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was 73. Mrs. Reeher was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Sharon to Henry S. Weaver and Kathryne Peterson Weaver. She was the valedictorian of her graduating Class of 1947 at Sharon High School and worked at one time as a clerk for the former Strouss department store in Sharon and later at J.C. Penney's in Hermitage. Mrs. Reeher owned her own antiques business and was an avid antiques collector. She was a member of Church of the Redeemer in Hermitage; and the Gerdale Club, a local card club. As a woman who loved beautiful things, she sold Avon products. Mrs. Reeher enjoyed playing cards and was a very well-known woman with many friends. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Her husband, William George Reeher, whom she married July 1, 1947, died June 29, 2001. Surviving are: her children and spouse, Kenneth and Kathie Reeher; and David Allen Reeher, all Hermitage; four grandchildren, Laurie Tripp, Christina Leonard, Jennifer Ashley Reeher and Kenneth Alden Reeher; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gloria Kaiser, Branson, Mo. Besides her husband, Mrs. Reeher was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William G. Reeher Jr., who died in 1981; and one daughter, Kathryne Grace Reeher, in infancy.
REEHER Irma Krajecic Homemaker attended Sharon Baptist Church Irma Krajecic, 1166 Haig St., Sharon, died at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after an extended illness. She was 84. Mrs. Krajecic was born May 29, 1917, in Farrell to Leonard Morrison and Jane Cuypers Morrison. She attended Farrell High School and Sharon Baptist Church in Hermitage. A homemaker, Mrs. Krajecic enjoyed bingo, crafts, reading and puzzles. Surviving are: her husband, Joseph Krajecic, at home, whom she married Oct. 4, 1947; and one daughter, Beverly Baran, Euclid, Ohio. Mrs. Krajecic was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Orea Pintar; and one brother, Rene Morrison.

SMITH David Rodney Williams Sr. Retired GC schools custodian was '58 Lakeview High grad David Rodney Williams Sr., 1003 Columbia Ave., Grove City, died at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, following an extended illness. He was 61. Mr. Williams was born Sept. 1, 1940, in Grove City to Virgil Williams and Emily Corns Williams. A 1958 graduate of Lakeview High School, Sandy Lake Township, he retired in 1999 from Grove City area schools, where he was a custodian at the high school for 15 years. Mr. Williams was of the Protestant faith and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961. He loved automobiles, NASCAR racing and cruise-ins. Mr. Williams was a wonderful father and husband. Surviving are: his wife, the former Mary Louise Visniesky, whom he married July 28, 1962, at home; three children, Mrs. Darryl (Michelle R.) Donald, Saginaw, Mich.; David Rodney Williams Jr. and his wife Brenda, Hopkinsville, Ky.; and Douglas R. Williams, Grove City; three sisters, Vivian Moldovan, Masury; Carol Hall, Mayfield, Ky.; and Barbara Peth, Harrisville; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents.
