Virginia M. Surrena Hedglin Virginia M. Surrena Hedglin, 442 Liberty St., Grove City, died at 10:25 p.m. Friday (3-29-02) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, following a brief illness She was 68. Obituary information was incomplete.
HEDGLIN John Koslow John Koslow, of Bedford, Texas, formerly of Hermitage, passed away Friday (3-29-02) in Park View Health Care Center, Bedford. He was 84. Obituary information was incomplete.
KOSLOW Patricia 'Patty' N. Miller Meadville woman was former church financial secretary Patricia 'Patty' N. Miller, 10922 Perry Highway, Meadville, died unexpectedly Friday (3-29-02) in Meadville Medical Center. She was 67. She was born April 13, 1934, in New Castle, to Charles and Bertha Mason Newton. A 1952 alumna of New Castle High School, Mrs. Miller was the office manager for H&R Block in the downtown mall office, Meadville, where she was employed for the past 27 years. She was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, Meadville, and was the former church financial secretary. Mrs. Miller enjoyed family time, gardening, flowers, hummingbirds and loved spending time on the Clarion River and houseboating on Lake Cumberland, Ky. Surviving are: her husband, Wilbur A. Miller, whom she married 46 years ago on June 18, 1955, at home; two sons, Mark A. Miller and his wife Carol, Franklin, and David C. Miller and his wife Marie, Meadville; a daughter, Suzan Moyers and her husband Jeffery, Conneaut Lake; five grandchildren, Shawn Miller and his wife Peggy Sue; Eric Miller; Bryan Miller; Christopher Miller; and Jenna Miller; her step-father, the Rev. John E. Scott, New Castle; and two nieces. MILLER Robert 'Buck' Whitman New Wilmington native was mechanical engineer NEW WESTON, Ohio -- Robert "Buck" Whitman, 633 Wilson St., New Weston, Ohio, formerly of New Wilmington, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday (3-30-02) in Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, Ohio. He was 71. He was born March 14, 1931 in New Wilmington to Walt and Cecelia Allen Whitman. Mr. Whitman was a 1948 graduate of New Wilmington High School, later attending Sterling College and Youngstown College. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and was at the Chosen Reservoir when the Chinese communist forces came over the mountains, fighting with the United States Army stationed there. Mr. Whitman was self employed as a mechanical engineer and formerly worked at Stamco, New Breman, Ohio. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene, St. Mary's, Ohio. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and also enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled aircraft. Surviving are: his wife, Yvonne Dawson, whom he married Oct. 25, 1954; one daughter, Roberta Whitman, New Weston; one son, Ed Whitman, and his wife Sandy Washburn, St. Mary's, Ohio; four brothers, Floyd Whitman and his wife Judy, New Castle; Donald Whitman and his wife Janice, Topeka, Kan.; Kenneth Whitman and his wife Pat, Volant; Carroll Whitman and his wife Sally, Kingman, Ariz.; and six grandchildren, Todd McClain, Daisey McClain, Amanda Rohrbach, Brittany Whitman, Edward Whitman, Jr., and Jennifer Whitman. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Russo and Mary Whitman, two brothers, Vince and Edward Whitman, and one son, Robert Whitman, Jr.

MIROS Martha Grace Fleming Longtime teacher began career in Mercer County Funeral services were held Tuesday (3-26-02) for Martha Grace Fleming, of Dean Road, Fairmount City, who passed away Saturday (3-23-02) in UPMC Horizon Northwest, Oil City. She was 87. She was born July 31, 1914 in Coolspring Township to William and Ellesta McMillen Elder. Mrs. Fleming was a school teacher for 35 years, beginning her teaching career in Mercer County. The last 18 years were spent in the Redbank Valley School District. She was a member of the Nevin Memorial United Church of Christ in Frogtown, where she was a deacon emeritus. Mrs. Fleming was a member of the grange for 73 years; a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Daughters of the American Colonists; the Business and Professional Women, New Bethlehem; and the Clarion County Retired Teachers. Her husband, Paul Fleming, whom she married Aug. 12, 1953, preceded her in death Dec. 6, 1995. Surviving are: two sons, Dave Fleming and his wife Cindy, Fairmount City; Henry Fleming and his wife Deb, Limestone; one sister, Dorotha Anderson, Greenville; five grandchildren, Scott Fleming, Fairmount City; Jennifer Fleming, Pittsburgh; Angie Hepler and Amanda Fleming, both of Clarion; Michelle Forsythe, Brookville; and eight great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Alice Brown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevin Memorial United Church of Christ, Frogtown, Pa. Mattie Peterson Mattie Peterson, 941 Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday (3-30-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 81. PETERSON Emmy Schneider Zelienople great-grandmother was born in Germany Emmy Schneider, of Zelienople, Pa., formerly of Carnegie, died Friday (3-29-02) in Passavant Retirement and Health Center, Zelienople. She was 96. She was born Nov. 3, 1905 in Weitefeld, Germany to Karl and Pauline Strump Krah. Mrs. Schneider was a member of the South Hills Bible Chapel. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Benjamin (Violet) Bissett, Mercer; and Mrs. Sanford (Gretchen) Schulert, Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Albert K. Schneider, Carnegie, Pa.; and Arthur E. Schneider, Lakeland, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, Susan Bissett, Nanette Sepik, Karen Odell, Diane Schell, Priscilla Heeter, Jennifer Rader, Julie Schneider, Jane Kirtley, Anne Marie Schneider, Lisa Schneider, Martha Schneider, Suzanne Schulert, Ben Bissett III, Alan Schneider and Grant Schulert, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Adolf Schneider, her parents and a grandson, Glenn Schneider. Memorial contributions may be made to Passavant Retirement Center, 401 S.
