John N. Koslow Westinghouse retiree, WWII vet had lived in Hermitage BEDFORD, Texas -- Visitation will be held Tuesday for John N. Koslow, a resident of Park View Care Center, Bedford, formerly of 259 Meadowbrook Road in Hermitage. He passed away Friday, March 29, 2002, in the health care center. He was 84. Born May 21, 1917, in Pittsburgh, Mr. Koslow was a son of the late Nicholas and Annastacia Koslow. He was a graduate of Munhall (Pa.) High School and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he received a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Koslow retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. as an electrical engineer after 45 years of service. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was attached to the Signal Corps. Mr. Koslow was also an avid golfer. His wife, the former Zelma Ferrari, whom he married July 19, 1943, preceded him in death Aug. 13, 1998. Survivors include: one son, Jack Koslow and his wife Judy, Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Paula) Ogg, Houston; and Mrs. Jim (Pam) Giffin, Southlake, Texas; three sisters, Pat Glova, Pittsburgh; Ann Melnick, Philadelphia; and Helen Elchik; and two grandsons, Max and Jack Giffin, both Southlake. In addition to his parents and wife, two sisters, Olga Koslow and Stella Horn, preceded him in death.

James C. Testa Westinghouse retiree formerly was of Farrell MARIETTA, Ohio -- James C. Testa, Marietta, formerly of Farrell, died of natural causes at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002, in Heartland of Marietta. He was 89. Mr. Testa was born March 1, 1913, in Farrell to Guiseppi Testa and Cristiana Sparano Testa. He retired in 1978 as a plant guard for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he worked for 38 years. Mr. Testa was a member of St. Michael Church in Vienna, W.Va. As a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell, he was a member of its Holy Name Society. He also belonged to the Italian Home Club, Farrell; and enjoyed bowling, golf and carpentry. His wife, the former Angelina Mindicino, whom he married Jan. 27, 1940, died Feb. 23, 1987. Surviving are: one son, Joseph Testa and his wife Candi, Madison, Maine; three daughters, Marie Zager, wife of Thomas, Sterling Heights, Mich.; Christine Testa, Parkersburg, W.Va.; and Judith Young, wife of Raymond, Williams-town, W.Va.; one brother, Michael Testa, Sharon; and two sisters, Beatrice Chirilla, wife of Tudor, Ore.; and Mary Shamu, wife of George, Canoga Park, Calif. Also surviving are: six grandchildren, James and Jillian Testa, Maine; Jeremy Zager and Lesley Zager Luft, Michigan; and Megan and Brian Young, West Virginia. Mr. Testa was preceded in death by three sisters, Antoinette Testa, Carmelina Agresti and Florence Chiccilo; and one brother, Frank Testa.
TESTA Jerry R. Bartley Jerry R. Bartley, 541 Grant St., Mercer, died at 1:10 p.m. Sunday (3-31-02) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after an extended illness. He was 62. Obituary information was incomplete.
BARTLEY Debra Sue Morris Sharon High graduate was a homemaker Debra Sue Morris of 304 Grant St. in Sharon passed away at 5:16 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. She was 44. Debra was born Nov. 5, 1957, in Sharon, a daughter of Ronald and Madeline Womer Morris. She was an alumna of Sharon High School. A homemaker, Debra was a devoted mother. She leaves: two daughters, Mrs. Beau (Melanie) Kramer, Mississippi; and Amy Leigh Van Scoik, Sharon; two sons, Eric Lee Tuck, Warren, Ohio; and Billy Joe Van Scoik, Sharon; her mother and stepfather, Robert McFarland, Masury; one sister, Mrs. Carlos (Patricia) Lopez, Bartow, Fla.; and one brother, Mark Morris and his wife Grace, Sharon. She also leaves two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Gregory Van Scoik, who passed away in 1997; and by her father. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
MORRIS Florence E. Fairbairn Thompson Grove City woman was retired secretary, homemaker Florence E. Fairbairn Thompson, 620 Euclid Ave., Grove City, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, following a two-month illness. She was 78. Mrs. Thompson was born May 24, 1923, in Newton Center, Mass., to Rupert A. and Mary Florence Jolliffe Fairbairn. She was a graduate of Burdette College of Business in Boston and retired as a secretary. A homemaker, Mrs. Thompson was a member of Christian Science Society in Grove City. She enjoyed art, camping and the outdoors. Surviving are: her husband, Claire L. "Bud" Thompson, whom she married June 16, 1946, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Sharyn E.) Baird, Butler; and Mrs. Edward (Donna L.) Donnelly, Allison Park, Pa.; one brother, David C. Fairbairn, Sun City, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents.
THOMPSON Calvin Williams Jr. Calvin Williams Jr., 245 Emerson Ave., Farrell, died Sunday (3-31-02) in his home. He was 63. Obituary information was incomplete.
WILLIAMS Virginia M. Courson Surrena Hedglin Retired GJR cook belonged to Grace United Methodist A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Virginia M. Courson Surrena Hedglin, 442 Liberty St., Grove City. She died at 10:25 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, following a brief illness. She was 68. Mrs. Hedglin was born June 13, 1933, in Franklin to Fred E. DeLong and Nellie A. Breowski DeLong. She retired in 2000 from George Junior Republic in Pine Township, where she was a cook for 23 years. Mrs. Hedglin was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and family. Her first husband, William R. Surrena, whom she married Oct. 31, 1957, died July 28, 1985. Her second husband, William H. Hedglin, whom she married Nov. 12, 1988, died Sept. 6, 1997. Surviving are: four children, Mrs. William Joseph (Karen) Spence; William Douglas Surrena and his wife, Christine; and James R. Surrena, all Grove City; and Donald C. Kuhns and his wife, Sue, Leesburg; one stepdaughter, Jodi Lang, Suwanee, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Walt (Delores) Kolsky, Fredonia; and Mrs. Ron (Darlene) Dickson, Grove City; two brothers, Edwin Courson, Ravenna, Ohio; and Fred E. DeLong Jr., Grove City; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Besides her first and second husbands, Mrs. Hedglin was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Carl Courson; and her granddaughter, Dawn Marie Kuhns. Memorial contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Research in care of the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Avenue, Sharon 16146.
