Today's obituaries Keith Allen Brest Keith Allen Brest, Sharon, died peacefully Monday (4-1-02) following an extended illness. He was 53. Surviving are: two brothers, Larry and Richard; and a companion, Candace Fisher. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday (4-4-02) in Victory Heights United Brethren Church, Route 322 East, Franklin. Marguerite M. Morgan Brown Retired Erie teacher was member of Beloved Disciple Marguerite M. Morgan Brown, 456 Liberty St., Grove City, formerly of Erie, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. She was 82. Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Oil City to John Thomas Morgan and Margaret Irene Bailey Morgan. Her husband, Thomas G. Brown, whom she married May 1, 1946, died Oct. 8, 1999. They renewed their marriage vows May 1, 1987. Mrs. Brown retired as a school teacher from Erie City School District. A Catholic by faith, she was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City. Mrs. Brown also belonged to Erie Women's Bowling Association; and MENSA. Surviving are: one sister, Mary Ellen Stewart, Grove City; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; an infant child; two sisters, Alberta Henderson and Florence Spencer; and three brothers, Gleason, John and Paul Morgan.
BROWN Lee Ann Rimko Sharon homemaker formerly worked as secretary Lee Ann Rimko, 532 Fisher Hill, Sharon, died unexpectedly at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 36. Ms. Rimko was born Oct. 26, 1965, in Sharon to Orval Thomas and Joan Dean Thomas. She graduated in 1982 from Victory Christian Academy in Sharon and went on to graduate in 1990 from what was then Shenango Valley School of Business in Sharon, where she earned an associate's degree in secretarial science. Ms. Rimko was a homemaker who previously worked for Kraynak's and as a secretary for the Christian Church of North America headquarters in Transfer. She attended Sharon Baptist Church in Hermitage. Ms. Rimko enjoyed crocheting, yoga, reading and was a yellow belt in martial arts. Surviving are: her mother, with whom she made her home; two daughters, Katie Lynn Rimko and Marlee Rimko, both at home; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Marsha) Collins, Florida; and three brothers, Bruce Thomas and his wife Kathleen; and Kip Thomas and his wife Carol Ann, all West Middlesex; and Bill Thomas and his wife Maybelle, Sharon. She was preceded in death by her father.
RIMKO James B. White Sr. James B. White Sr., 416 York Way, Sharon, died Tuesday (4-2-02) in Butler Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was 84. Obituary information was incomplete.
WHITE Betty M. Rhoades Betty M. Rhoades, 2180 Ridgelawn Drive, Hermitage, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday (4-2-02) in St. Joseph Health Center, Warren, Ohio. She was 77. Obituary information was incomplete.
RHOADES Bessie M. Russell Ex-Harrisville homemaker was organizations member Bessie M. Russell, 301 S. Broad St., Grove City, formerly of Harrisville, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in her residence. She was 87. Mrs. Russell was born June 29, 1914, in Craigsville, W.Va., to Sanford and Vergie Frame. A homemaker, she was of the Protestant faith. Mrs. Russell was a former member of Ladies of the Moose in Mercer; and Tri-state Country Music Association. Her husband, George M. Russell, whom she married April 22, 1935, died Aug. 7, 1974. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Gatha) Krantz, Craigsville; and Mrs. Merle P. (Mary) Rodgers, Mercer; six sons, Henry H. Russell, Harrisville; Earl M. Russell, Terre Haute, Ind.; and William H. Russell, Arthur W. Russell, Othel G. Russell and Hulbert E. Russell, all Grove City; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Tressie Carns, Toledo; Lovie Jacobs, Craigsville; and Dessie Tudor, Phoenix. Besides her husband, Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Leroy Russell and Roscoe Russell; two sisters, Mary Long and Jessie Sparks; and three brothers, Alden, Forest and Brun Frame. RUSSELL Mary E. Shaffer Fredonia retiree was clerk for Hempfield Twp. stores Mary E. Shaffer, 34 Chestnut St., Fredonia, died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in her home following an extended illness. She was 68. Mrs. Shaffer was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Hamilton, Ohio, to John T. Kolb Sr. and Rosie E. Mariacher Kolb. A 1951 graduate of St. Michael's High School in Greenville, she retired in 2001 after seven years as sales clerk for Quality Farm & Fleet Co., Hempfield Township. Mrs. Shaffer was previously employed for 27 years as a sales clerk for Ames Department Store and G. C. Murphy Co., both Hempfield Township. She was a member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville. Mrs. Shaffer enjoyed reading, gardening and crocheting. Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Sue Smith, Hadley; and Judith L. Heady, Piedmont, S.C.; two sons, Robert W. Shaffer III, Hampton, Va.; and John T. Shaffer, Windber, Pa.; one brother, John T. Kolb Jr., Richland Hills, Texas; nine grandchildren, Donald L. Perry III, Oren J. Smith, Sherry Ballew, Kenneth Ballew, Eric M. Shaffer, Elisabeth Shaffer, Zachery Shaffer, Ryan Shaffer and Aaron Shaffer; and three great-grandchildren, Brandon M. Perry, Kayla Ballew and Tyler Ballew. Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Avenue, Sharon 16146.
SHAFFER Francis W. Mattocks Retired Mercer Forge welder was WWII Navy veteran Francis W. Mattocks, 325 North St., Mercer, died at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, following a brief illness. He was 84. Mr. Mattocks was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Jefferson Township to Harlowe Francis Mattocks and Lucy Elizabeth Hinkson Mattocks. He retired as a welder from Mercer Forge Co. Mr. Mattocks was a member of Mercer Free Methodist Church; and the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1637 in Mercer. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6345, Mercer. His wife, the former Geraldine M. Heffern, whom he married Dec. 26, 1952, died Oct. 3, 1995. Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey (Pamela) Engstrom and Mrs. Lawrence (Susan) Pears, both Stoneboro; and Mrs. John (Gail) Frydrych, Mercer; two stepsons, Thomas R. Breese, Sandy Lake; and Mrs. James B. Breese, Carlton; a sister, Mrs. David W. (Arlene) Love, Midlothian, Va.; and seven grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. Mattocks was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Raymond Mattocks and H. Mont Mattocks.
MATTOCKS Calvin Williams Jr. Green Thumb worker retired after 30 years as LA painter A funeral service will be held Friday for Calvin Williams Jr., 245 Emerson Ave., Farrell. He died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday (3-31-02) in his home. He was 62. Mr. Williams was born Sept. 2, 1939, in Chester, Pa., to Calvin Williams Sr. and Bertha Robinson Williams. He retired in 1985 as a painter from the City of Los Angeles, where he worked for 30 years. Mr. Williams also worked for Green Thumb Inc. of Mercer County. He attended the Church of God in Los Angeles and enjoyed barbecuing and fishing. Mr. Williams was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are: his former wife, Johnnie Williams, Los Angeles; two sons, Demetrius Williams and Calvin J. Williams III; one daughter, Carla Williams; and two stepsons whom he reared, Terry and Willis, all Los Angeles; his mother, Bertha Williams Houston, with whom he made his home; three sisters, Almeda James, wife of Alfonso; and Claudia Archie and Adrianne Taylor, all Farrell; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Calvin Williams III.
Joseph Dudzenski Joseph Dudzenski, 637 Sherman Ave., Sharon, died at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday (4-2-02) in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. He was 79. Obituary information was incomplete.
DUDZENSKI Elizabeth Taylor Wheatland homemaker enjoyed several hobbies Elizabeth Taylor, 103 Emerson Ave., Wheatland, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday (4-1-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. Mrs. Taylor was born in Andersonville, S.C. A homemaker, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working crossword puzzles and collecting cookbooks. Her husband, James Taylor, is deceased. Surviving are: a daughter, Joyce Taylor, at home; one grandson, Allen Taylor and his wife Leslie, Farrell; two nieces, Ellen M. Johnson, Hermitage; and Rose Wells, Detroit; and two nephews, Jerry Taylor Jr., Overland Park, Kansas; and Terry Taylor, San Diego, Calif. Besides her husband, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents; four daughters, Mary Tolliver, Delores McClendon, Jovon A. Taylor and Joan Taylor; a brother, John Henry Harthorn; a half sister, Ossie Mae Hamm; and a granddaughter, Yvonne Smith.
