Zoe Meredith Myers '43 Sharon High graduate attended 1st Presbyterian Zoe Meredith Myers, 141 N. Maysville Road, West Salem Township, formerly of Dogwood Lane, Hermitage, died at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 77. Mrs. Myers was born Nov. 9, 1924, in McKeesport, Pa., to Frank M. Meredith and Lucy Mathias Meredith. She was a 1943 graduate of Sharon High School. Mrs. Myers attended Southern Seminary in Bristol, Va., and First Presbyterian Church in Sharon. Her husband, Edward J. Myers, whom she married June 15, 1944, died Dec. 29, 2000. Surviving are: two sons, Edward "Ned" J. Myers Jr., Mount Vernon, Iowa; and Frank M. Myers, Greenville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Myers was preceded in death by her parents.
MYERS William S. Rozich GATX retiree was member of Grace Lutheran Church YOUNGSTOWN -- William S. Rozich of 362 Iowa Ave., Girard, Ohio, passed away Friday morning (4-5-02) in Forum Health's Northside Medical Center, Youngstown, after a sudden illness. He was 67. Mr. Rozich was born June 24, 1934, in Masury, a son of Steve and Agnes Dolosky Rozich. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Rozich was a locomotive engineer for General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant, retiring in 1982 with 32 years of service. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hubbard; the Old Timers Club, Girard; a 50-year member of Croatian Fraternal Union St. George Lodge 66, Youngstown; Liberty Historical Society; Democrat Club; and Girard Block Watch 4th Ward. Mr. Rozich also belonged to the Parkwood Youth Committee of Girard and was a volunteer for Multi-Generational Center and Girard Tod Woods School, where he was a crossing guard. He leaves: his wife, the former Ileene Welk Shaffer, whom he married Feb. 14, 1975; his father, Steve Rozich, Masury; two stepsons, Kenneth Shaffer, Harrisburg; and Jon Shaffer, Chardon, Ohio; three stepdaughters, Karen Weaver, Harrisburg; Charlene Yuengert, Olathe, Kan.; and Marybeth Shaffer, Canfield, Ohio; a sister, Jean R. Baron, Baton Rouge, La.; a niece, Kristen Dufrene, Reston, Va.; a nephew, Michael Baron, Houston, Texas; and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Rozich was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Rozich, who passed away March 14 of this year. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the memorial fund of Grace Lutheran Church, 111 Hall Ave., Hubbard 44425.
ROZICH Thelma L. Unrue Sharon Westinghouse retiree lived in Florida since 1998 VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Thelma L. Unrue of 99-106 Springlake Drive, Vero Beach, formerly of Richmond Drive, Hermitage, died at 3:02 a.m. Friday (4-5-02) in Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach. She was 86. Mrs. Unrue was born Nov. 17, 1915, in the village of Kremis, a daughter of John D. and Mary Matilda List Clark. Her father was a well-known barber in Mercer. Mrs. Unrue was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, and a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Sharon, where she was very active. In Vero Beach, she was an associate member of First Presbyterian Church. She and her husband wintered in Vero Beach for 22 years and became permanent residents in 1998. Mrs. Unrue had been employed by Westinghouse Electric Corp.'s former Sharon Transformer Division for 37 years, retiring Feb. 1, 1977. Her husband, Vincent C. Unrue, whom she married Nov. 22, 1950, in First Presbyterian Church in Sharon, by the late Rev. Dr. William L. Wishart, survives in Vero Beach. She is also survived by: a stepson, Vincent W. Unrue, and his wife Mary, Vero Beach; his sons, William V. Unrue, Meadville; Mark A. Unrue, Hermitage; and Michael Unrue, Sharon; a stepdaughter, Peggy Jo Overkott, West Newton, Pa.; and her daughter, Lisa Lynn Irwin and her son Jason Overkott. Also surviving are: a grandson, D. Keith Harmon of the North Palm Beach (Fla.) Police Department, and his wife Kimberly and their daughter Alexa, Vero Beach; and granddaughters, Jackie Lynn Harmon Bost and her husband Lee and son Connor, Simpsonville, S.C.; and Donalea Harmon, Independence, Ky. Mrs. Unrue was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Jack D. Harmon. If desired, remembrances may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., Sharon 16146.
UNRUE Ethel Jane Blair Masury Methodist member played golf, belonged to Y Funeral service will be held Sunday for Ethel Jane Blair, formerly of Arthur Street, Masury. She died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (4-4-02) in Orange Village Care Center, Masury. She was 87. Mrs. Blair was born May 13, 1914, in New York City, a daughter of Joseph K. and Jane Elver Rowan. A homemaker, she was a very active member of Masury United Methodist Church. Mrs. Blair was also a past member of Deer Creek Women's Golf League in Hubbard and YWCA, Youngstown. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, swimming, knitting and ceramics. Her husband, James R. Blair, whom she married Sept. 4, 1937, died June 12, 2001. Survivors include: two sons, James R. Blair, Brookfield; and Thomas E. Blair, Meriden, Kan.; a daughter, Nancy Davies, Hubbard; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Blair was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Thomas Rowan. BLAIR Jean E. Wiseman Brookfield homemaker was active in church, groups Jean E. Wiseman of 6742 Warren-Sharon Road, Brookfield, died at 11:08 a.m. Thursday (4-4-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 76. Mrs. Wiseman was born at home in Brookfield on Sept. 13, 1925, a daughter of Wade A. and Edith Herrmann Christy. A 1943 alumna of Brookfield High School, she was a homemaker for most of her life and had previously worked at the former Knivel's Grocery Store, Brookfield. Her memberships included the Brookfield Christian Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was also formerly active with the Brookfield Parent Teacher Association and Brookfield Band Boosters and was a former Cub Scout den mother in Brookfield. Surviving are: her husband, Ralph Wiseman, whom she married Aug. 2, 1946; four sons, Ralph C. "Skip" Wiseman and his wife Dianne, Cortland, Ohio; Don A. Wiseman and his wife Kathryn, Sharpsville; Larry V. Wiseman and his wife Gail, Melbourne, Fla.; and Jeff L. Wiseman and his wife Mary, Brookfield; eight grandchildren, Chris and Carrie; Michelle and Michael; Brittany and Lauren; and Matthew and Danny; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryan and Jesse. She also leaves her pet, Snoopy, and her lifelong friend, Kathryn West. Mrs. Wiseman was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Geraldine DeWitt. WISEMAN Theresia 'Zia' Clemons Sharon High graduate held degrees in computer science SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Theresia "Zia" Clemons, 3032 Exposition Blvd., Apartment C, Santa Monica, passed away March 17, 2002, in St. John's Medical Center. She was 53. Theresia was born Jan. 10, 1949, in Heidelberg, Germany, a daughter of Mihaly Sleder and Terezia Ser Sleder. She was a graduate of Sharon High School and Pennsylvania State University, where she earned bachelor's and a master's degrees in computer science. She is survived by a sister, Ildiko Kerwood, Deltona, Fla.; and a brother, Michael Sleder, Louisville, Ky. Theresia was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service followed by interment will be held at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., Culver City, Calif. Cecil M. Perrine Retired as chief operator from Bell of Pa. Sharon office Cecil M. Perrine, 48 Clarksville St., Greenville, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday (4-5-02) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 95. Cecil was born Aug. 14, 1906, in Chelsea, Mich., a daughter of the late Clarence and Pearl Upgraft Perrine. She retired in 1971 from Bell of Pennsylvania as chief operator from the Sharon office in the Operator Services Department with 46 years of service. Cecil was a member of First Baptist Church, Greenville. An avid golfer, she was a member of Greenville County Club for 50 years. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a longtime member of the country club's bridge group. She was a 50-year volunteer with the women's auxiliary to what was formerly known as Greenville Regional Hospital. Cecil also volunteered at St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, and was a 70-year member of the Business and Professional Women's Association, Greenville. Surviving are: several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Gilger and Cleon Perrine, and a companion, Earl A. Reigelman, preceded her in death.
PERRINE Michael John 'Jack' Sweeney Greenville Steel Car retiree also had been barber Michael John "Jack" Sweeney, 10550 McClure St., Conneaut Lake, formerly of 7 Ninth Ave., Hempfield Township, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday (4-4-02) in Meadville Medical Center. He was 71. Mr. Sweeney was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Conneaut, Ohio, to Michael John and Anna Marie Bancroft Sweeney. The 1949 alumnus of St. Michael's School, Greenville, was a retired production planner for the former Greenville Steel Car Co, and a barber. He was a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 145 in Greenville. Mr. Sweeney also was a member of St. Michael's Church, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 276 and Italian Home Club, all in Greenville; and Conneaut Lake Volunteer Firemen's Club. Surviving are: his wife, the former Patricia M. Steele, whom he married Aug. 31, 1990; four sons, Michael L., Robert J. and Patrick R. Sweeney, all of Greenville; and David B. Sweeney, Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Margaret M. Sweeney, Greenville; Julie A. Morgan, Greencastle, Pa.; and Amy R. Brzezinski, Erie; and 17 grandchildren. His parents; a grandson, Michael Patrick Sweeney; and an aunt, Catherine Bahen, preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Church, 85 N. High St., Greenville 16125.
SWEENEY Victor Louis Perrotta Civil engineer worked for government agencies MERRIMACK, N.H. -- Victor Louis Perrotta, Thomasville, Ga., formerly of Sharon, died Thursday evening, April 4, 2002, in Community Hospice House, Merrimack. He was 91. Mr. Perrotta was born Feb. 1, 1911, in Sharon, the youngest of four children of Charles Angelo and Mary Carmen DeMatteo Perrotta. He lived 46 years in Thomasville. Mr. Perrotta graduated with a civil engineering degree in 1935 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. During the Depression, he worked for a local contractor while waiting to be hired from the Federal Civil Service List. His 37-year civil service career was many faceted. He was employed with the Civil Aeronautics Administration and worked on Radio Beam Stations throughout the U.S. He spent six months with the National Park Service as civil engineer on the Doughton Park section of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. In 1939, he married the former Bess Sue Wooten of Blowing Rock, N.C. He was rehired by the CAA as airways engineer and was in charge of designing and constructing airway ground facilities throughout the South. After seven years of traveling in that capacity, Mr. Perrotta transferred to the Atlanta Regional Office as airports engineer in 1946. He spent two years in Fort Worth, Texas, with the Federal Aviation Administration, formerly CAA, before transferring to the Federal Civil Defense Administration, Region 3, in Thomasville in 1957. Mr. Perrotta distinguished himself as one of the first people to be certified as a fallout shelter analyst in the United States. He retired in 1974 as chief of Resident Engineer Support Group of the Corps of Engineers, attached to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, formerly FCDA. The group furnished technical support to civil-preparedness agencies. An avid golfer, Mr. Perrotta was a former member of the Glen Arven Country Club. During his golfing career, he scored two holes-in-one. Among his favorite pastimes were gardening and cooking. He was an especially good caregiver for his wife, Bess, who died in 1979. He leaves behind: a daughter, Mary Antonia and her husband Allston E. Weller Jr., Amherst, N.H.; two grandchildren, Kristin L. Weller-Paradise, Troy, Mich.; and Allston E. Weller III, St. Louis; two great-grandchildren, Victoria E. Paradise and Forrest S. Paradise, both Troy, Mich.; several nephews, nieces and cousins in Sharon, Albert Rotunno, Grace Fulford, Marie Aldrich, John Nichols, Teedie Nichols Miller; and other family members in Troy, N.Y. A graveside service will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.
