Maxine V. Dorn Bethlehem Presbyterian member belonged to AARP Maxine V. Dorn, Sharon, formerly of Wilkinsburg, Pa., died at 12:10 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, in Clepper Manor, Sharon, after a brief illness. She was 89. Mrs. Dorn was born July 27, 1912, in DuBois, Pa., to Finley Goldthwaite and Margaret Ayre Goldthwaite. She was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Sharon, and its Women's Guild. Mrs. Dorn was also a member of Shenango Valley Chapter 3616 of AARP, the retired persons organization. She was a homemaker and loved her grandchildren and animals. Her husband, Kenneth W. Dorn, whom she married in 1932, died May 16, 1982. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. George (Dee) Drabick, Sharon; and her grandsons, Paul and Mark Drabick. Besides her husband, Mrs. Dorn was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Viola Goldthwaite and Jeanette Spicher; and three brothers, Eugene, Ed and Don Goldthwaite. DORN Betty J. Geer AARP volunteer tax preparer was avid bowler, CB fan Betty J. Geer, 419 Patton Ave., Farrell, formerly of Grove City and a resident of Connecticut from 1954 to 1986, died at 8:20 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 73. Betty was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Masury to Harvey Gehring and Pearl E. Gise Gehring. A 1946 graduate of Grove City High School, she was a volunteer tax preparer with AARP, the retired persons organization. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Middletown, Conn. While in Connecticut, she volunteered in many organizations in the greater Hartford area. Betty was an avid duck-pin and 10-pin bowler, serving as an officer in many leagues and bowling on television. She was also an officer and former member of the Windsor Old Towners Square Dance Club. An active citizen's band radio enthusiast, Betty used the handle, Rambling Rose, on Channel 10. Surviving are: a son and daughter-in-law, C. Eugene and Deborah L. King, Berlin, Conn.; and several cousins, aunts and uncles in the Kittanning and Johnstown areas of Pennsylvania. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harvey Gehring Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. GEER Norma Bovard Church
CHURCH Michael Cummerick WARREN, Ohio -- Michael Cummerick, Ridgecrest Care Center, Warren, formerly of 140 Boyd Drive, Hermitage, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday (4-18-02) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, after an extended illness. He was 92. Obituary information was incomplete. CUMMERICK Dr. John 'Jack' E. Stefanick Longtime valley veterinarian belonged to St. John's church A funeral service will be held Monday for Dr. John "Jack" E. Stefanick of 129 S. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage. He died at 9:17 p.m. Thursday evening (4-18-02) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System after becoming ill in his residence. He was 81. Dr. Stefanick was born Dec. 6, 1920, in Farrell, a son of John Albert Stefanick and Veronica Agnes Kocis Stefanick. He graduated from Farrell High School and obtained his undergraduate degree from Thiel College in Greenville. Dr. Stefanick graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1943 and practiced in Sharon and Hermitage for 48 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon, where he was a former vestryman and a junior warden. A World War II Air Force veteran, he was a second lieutenant and served as a bombardier and navigator of B-29 bombers. Dr. Stefanick was a charter member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166 in Hermitage; a member of Pennsylvania and American Veterinary Medical associations; was past president of Northwestern Veterinary Medical Association; and was a past board member of Veterinary Medical Examiners. President of Sharon Rotary Club in 1964, he was District Governor of the Rotary Club in 1967; a former Rotary District Youth Exchange officer; and chairman of the USA Rotary Tour for 25 years. Dr. Stefanick was a former member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103, Sharon. Dr. Stefanick is survived by: his wife, the former Doris Marie Conant, whom he married May 19, 1945, at home; three daughters, Dianne M. Herman, Clinton, Miss.; Dr. Marcia L. Stefanick-Horowitz, Los Altos, Calif.; and Gale J. Sisul, Guys Mills; and four sons, Dr. Larry L. Stefanick, Hermitage; Terry J. Stefanick, Charlotte, N.C.; Dale E. Stefanick, Phoenix; and Jack C. Stefanick, Hermitage. Also surviving are: two brothers, Raymond J. Stefanick, Sun City, Ariz.; and Albert Stefanick, Old Line, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Ted (Jeanenne) Yez, Hermitage; and 11 grandchildren. Dr. Stefanick was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Rosemarie Hallett. If desired, remembrances may be made to the memorial fund of St. John's Episcopal Church, 226 W.
