Aurora Puntil
Former Sharon woman had belonged to local church

MONROEVILLE -- Aurora Puntil, Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Ellis Avenue in Sharon, died Saturday evening, April 20, 2002, in Forbes Regional Hospital. She was 92.

Mrs. Puntil was born Nov. 28, 1909, in Uniontown, Pa., to Max and Giorgessi Ursula Gonano.

She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Sharon.

Mrs. Puntil was the wife of the late Nat Puntil; dear mother of Ronald M. Puntil, Pittsburgh; and the late Cynthia McDade; sister of Max, Leo, Erasmus and Daniel Gonano; and grandmother of Ronald Puntil Jr., Daniel Puntil, Glenn Puntil, Susan Certo and Erin McDade.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 59 N. Crescent Drive, Hermitage, 16148.

Myrna Mae Sakey

Sharpsville woman was 1957 valedictorian at Farrell High

A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Myrna Mae Sakey, 3972 Blue Jay Drive, Sharpsville. She died unexpectedly at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, in her residence, of natural causes. She was 62.

Mrs. Sakey was born Jan. 18, 1940, in Wheatland to Kenneth Livingston and LaVerne Covington Livingston.

She was valedictorian of her graduating class, Farrell High School Class of 1957, and retired in 1998 after 25 years as purchasing secretary for Sawhill Tubular Corp.

As a very active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon, Mrs. Sakey belonged to Episcopal Church Women.

She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 242 in Sharon.

Mrs. Sakey was an avid reader and had great love for her grandson.

Surviving are: her husband, Robert W. Sakey, whom she married July 29, 1968, at home; a son, Rob A. Sakey and his wife, Jennifer, Austintown, Ohio; a cousin, Myra Spangler, West Middlesex; and her grandson, Caden K. Sakey, Austintown.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. John's Episcopal Church, 226 W. State St., Sharon 16146.

Helen Hutcheson Stinson

GC woman began teaching in 1930; was active in church

Helen Hutcheson Stinson, 406 Shady Drive, Grove City, died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002, in her residence after an extended illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Stinson was born Nov. 25, 1911, in Slippery Rock, to Albert R. Hutcheson and Edith Laughlin Hutcheson.

She was a 1928 graduate of Slippery Rock High School and a 1930 graduate of Slippery Rock Normal School. She completed further studies at Slippery Rock State College.

Mrs. Stinson taught in Brent School in Springfield Township during the 1930-1931 school year, and in Harlansburg from 1931 to 1937. She also taught in Beaver Falls Area Schools from 1955 to 1965 and in Grove City Area School District from 1965 to 1974.

Mrs. Stinson was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the National Education Association, Grove City Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, a society for women educators. She was a member and past president of the Grove City Women's Literary Society and a member and past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 217 of Austin, Pa.

A longtime member of East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City, she served in the capacity of a deacon, elder, Sunday school superintendent and was a member of the Lydia Circle and the Women's Association. She also belonged to the Fidelis/Priscilla and Aquilla Sunday school class.

Her husband, Robert G. Stinson, whom she married June 9, 1937, died on July 2, 1988.

Surviving are: a daughter, Ann N. Stinson, with whom she lived, at home; a son, Robert C. Stinson, Richmond, Mich.; a granddaughter, Corey Holcomb, wife of Patrick, Hampton, Va.; a sister, Joy, wife of John Lindey, Grove City; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Stinson was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary McComb; and three brothers, Albert, Clyde and Jack Hutcheson.

Memorial contributions may be made to East Main Presbyterian Church, 120 E. Main St., Grove City 16127.

John F. Goodrum

West Middlesex man was service manager, mechanic

A funeral service will be held Thursday for John F. Goodrum of 3499 Sharon Road, West Middlesex. He passed away at 11:50 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a brief illness. He was 54.

Born June 21, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, Mr. Goodrum was a son of the late Samuel F. and Margaret Gephart Goodrum.

John was a 1965 graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage and was most recently employed since 1997 as a service manager for Barris Supply in West Middlesex. From 1966 to 1991, he was employed with the former Barris Company as a mechanic. John also worked from 1991 to 1997 at Nelson's Lawn and Garden in West Middlesex.

He enjoyed drag racing, hunting, gun collecting and anything to do with mechanics.

John also held an automobile inspector's license in Pennsylvania.

Survivors include: his wife, the former Gloria E. Jones, whom he married July 6, 1968; a daughter, Tracy Lee Goodrum, wife of Petty Officer Third Class Michael Quillen, stationed in Guam; two sons, Lonnie D. Goodrum and his wife, Pam; and Greg P. Goodrum, all West Middlesex; his mother-in-law, Della Jones, West Middlesex; a sister, Susan; and one grandson, Harley J. Goodrum.

Gerald P. Caulfield

Coolspring Township man was coal miner, WWII vet

Gerald P. Caulfield, 833 Greenville Road, Coolspring Township, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, April 21, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following a brief illness. He was 86.

Mr. Caulfield was born Sept. 13, 1915, in Grove City to David and Mary Caulfield.

A coal miner with Local 6461 District 2 of United Mineworkers for more than 30 years, he spent the remainder of his working career in construction with Labor Union 964 in New Castle.

Mr. Caulfield was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 4270; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6345; and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, all Mercer.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Infantry for four years and eight months.

Mr. Caulfield loved hunting and fishing and being with his family.

He loved Notre Dame.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Ruby Buxton, whom he married Aug. 15, 1946, at the residence in Mercer; a son, Patrick B. Caulfield and his wife Donna, Gibsonia, Pa.; a daughter, Cindy A. Zentner and her husband John, Mercer; a sister, Delores Caulfield, Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Taylor Zentner, Mercer; and Tammy Nash and her husband Ken, Wexford, Pa.; and a great-granddaughter, Carsyn Nash.

Mr. Caulfield was preceded in death by his father and his mother, Mary Keller; and two brothers, Hugh and Ken Caulfield.
