Charles Phillip 'Chick' Lary Retiree, honored vet belonged to radio control plane clubs A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Charles Phillip "Chick" Lary, 1210 Maple Drive, Hermitage. He died at 8:05 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2002, in his home after an extended illness. He was 79. Mr. Lary was born April 30, 1922, in Sharpsville to Earl Roland Lary and Ruth Gaines Lary. He attended schools in Mineral Ridge, Ohio, and graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1940. Mr. Lary worked for the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant as a crane operator for 41 years and retired in 1983. He also worked for The Wall Street Journal printing plant in Shenango Township as an inserter for six years. As a U.S. Army veteran, he served as a corporal in the 83rd Infantry Division in the European theater from April 6, 1944, to Nov. 2, 1945. Mr. Lary was awarded the Bronze Star; Good Conduct Medal; American Campaign Medal; European African Middle Eastern Medal with five Bronze service Stars; World War II Victory Medal; and Sharpshooter with an M1 Rifle. He was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage; American Legion Post 162, Sharpsville; and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, also Hermitage. Mr. Lary also belonged to the Greenville Merco Mac's Radio Control Airplane Club; and Nelson's Run R.C. Flyers, Mercer. Surviving are: his wife, the former Marian P. Parker, whom he married Feb. 25, 1944; a daughter, Mrs. Dale J. (Linda) Roth, Greenville; two sons, Phillip E. Lary and his wife Mary Ann, Sharon; and Kirk D. Lary and his wife Susan, Brookfield; two brothers, Jack Lary, New Smyrna, Fla.; and Warren Lary, Sharon; six grandchildren, Kimberly Lang, Kernersville, N.C.; Lori Code, Somerset, Ky.; Monique Lary, Missoula, Mont.; Malissa Shoaf, O'Fallon, Mo.; Machelle Orendi, Farrell; and Nicholas Lary, Hermitage; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Lang, Kernersville. Mr. Lary was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Regional Health System's Hospice Home Care, 490 N. Leona S. Manners Retired school tax collector was church, groups member GIRARD, Pa. -- Leona S. Manners, West Ridge Road, Girard, Pa., formerly of Arlington Drive, Pymatuning Township, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2002, in Pleasant Ridge Manor. She was 86. Mrs. Manners was born April 14, 1916, in Kane, Pa., to Charles Swanson and Anna Hedman Swanson. A 1935 graduate of Brookville (Pa.) High School, she retired in 1983 as a receiver of wage taxes for Reynolds School District after 15 years. Mrs. Manners was a member of Greencrest Park Community Baptist Church, Reynolds; and Transfer Volunteer Fireman's Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Reynolds Tuesday Night Bowling League; and Birchwood Birdies Golf League. Her husband, Fred R. Manners, whom she married Oct. 14, 1938, died April 26, 1992. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Susan) Scheuer, McKean; a sister, Mrs. L.E. (Charlotte) Murray, Erie; and three grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Manners was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clair and Lawrence Swanson; and a sister, Ms. M.D. (Avis) Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. MANNERS William Albert Gardlock William Albert Gardlock, 482 Baldwin Ave., Meadville, formerly of Broadway Avenue, Wheatland, died Monday morning (4-29-02) in his home after a brief illness. He was 66. Obituary information was incomplete.
GARDLOCK Frances Virginia Rankin Rockwell Longtime Aliquippa resident lived in Grove City Frances Virginia Rankin Rockwell, Grove City, formerly of Aliquippa, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 27, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. She was 85. Born March 13, 1917, in Cherry Run, W.Va., Mrs. Rockwell was a daughter of the late Kellie D. and Ida E. Starliper Rankin. She was married April 11, 1937, to Joseph W. Rockwell. He is deceased. Mrs. Rockwell lived in Aliquippa for more than 58 years before moving to Grove City three years ago. She attended Grace United Methodist Church and volunteered for the Meals-on-Wheels Program, both Grove City. A loving mother and grandmother, Mrs. Rockwell will be sadly missed by all. Surviving are: a son, Robert J. Rockwell and his wife Carol, Grove City; two grandsons, Michael Rockwell, Valencia, Pa.; and Kurt Rockwell, New Brighton; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Rockwell was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society of Beaver County.
ROCKWELL Col. Harry Ward Williamson Jr. Slippery Rock-born Air Force retiree had brother in GC NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Harry Ward Williamson Jr., 127 Wilderness Road, Hampton, died Monday, April 29, 2002, in Mary Immaculate Hospital. He was 72. Born June 16, 1929, in Slippery Rock, Col. Williamson was a son of Harry Ward Williamson Sr. and Maybelle Rought Williamson. He had been a Hampton resident since 1979 where he was a former owner of Williamson's Antiques. Col. Williamson retired from the Air Force in 1979 after 27 years of military service including the Vietnam conflict. He is survived by: a former wife, June Williamson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn W. and Arthur F. Bingham, High Point, N.C.; and Beth W. and Phillip Bauman, Medfield, Mass.; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Ken Kinsley, Nantucket, Mass.; a brother and sister-in-law, Sam K. and Carol Williamson, Grove City; and three grandchildren, A. Fletcher Bingham, Michelle Bauman and Rachael Bauman. Col. Williamson was preceded in death by his parents.
