Today's obituaries Margaret Elizabeth Beil Greenville businesswoman was active in St. Michael's Margaret Elizabeth Beil, a resident of Woodland Place, Coolspring Township; and formerly of 105 Walnut St., Greenville, died at 9 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, in Woodland Place. She was 95. Mrs. Beil was born Nov. 12, 1906, in Meadville, a daughter of the late David and Cecelia John Deeb, both of whom were former owners and operators of a clothing and dry goods store on Water Street in Meadville. Mrs. Beil was active in St. Michael's Church in Greenville for more than 65 years and was a 1926 graduate of St. Agatha's High School in Meadville. She was a respected member of the business community, having owned and operated Peggy Ann Shop on Main Street in Greenville before she opened and managed the May Company Store in Greenville. The store was later purchased by the Green and Samuel families and she retired from the store in 1971 after a long and accomplished career. She was an avid bowler and bridge player and enjoyed poker, bingo and dancing. Her most special time was spent with her family. Her husband, Howard Clinton Beil, whom she married Sept. 3, 1935, died May 11, 1986. She is survived by: two daughters, Mrs. David G. (Mona Lee) Gardner, Sharon; and Mrs. Louis G. (Karen) Davis Jr., Mercer; three sisters, Norma, Lenora and Pauline Deeb, all Meadville; and one brother, James Deeb, Dearborn, Mich. Also surviving are: six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her husband, Mrs. Beil was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Julia and Mary Deeb; and Frances Olson; and four brothers, George, Joe, Ed and Lawrence Deeb.
BEIL Esther Cohen BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Esther Cohen, Boca Raton, formerly of Sharon, died Monday, April 27, 2002. Her husband, Bernard Cohen, is deceased. She is survived by: her sons, Jay and Jeff Cohen; and three grandchildren, Heidi, Jennifer and Rochelle Cohen, all Hermitage. Clifton A. Cokain Longtime barber, councilman served in Harrisville church Clifton A. Cokain, West Washington Street, Harrisville, formerly of Irwin Township, Venango County, died at 10:42 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. He was 94. Mr. Cokain was born Sept. 21, 1907, in Venango County to Nelson B. Cokain and Ida P. McElroy Cokain. A graduate of Wesley High School in Irwin Township, Venango County, he was a self-employed barber in Harrisville for more than 50 years. As a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Harrisville, Mr. Cokain served as an elder and former Sunday school teacher. He was a charter member of Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department; and Harrisville Lions Club, for which he was the current chaplain. Mr. Cokain was a former member of Harrisville borough council; and Harrisville Deer Hunters Club; and was active with the Harrisville Salvation Army Kettle Fund. He was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. His wife, the former Helen G. McConnell, whom he married June 14, 1932, died May 30, 1998. Surviving are: a daughter, Veva Jean McFadden, Grove City; a son, Robert N. Cokain, Harrisville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; and one sister, Ruth Baer, Jackson Center. Besides his wife, Mr. Cokain was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, a great-grandson, a sister and a brother.
COKAIN Andrew L. Marlock Retiree formerly of GC had belonged to Beloved Disciple FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Andrew L. Marlock, Fort Wayne, formerly of Grove City, died Monday evening, April 15, 2002, in Parkview Hospital. He was 83. Mr. Marlock was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Stoneboro to Martin and Edna Lengauer Marlock. He retired in 1986 as a foreman and supervisor for Magnavox in Fort Wayne. A Catholic by faith, Mr. Marlock was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, and previously belonged to Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City. He was a golf enthusiast and also enjoyed bowling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Steckler Marlock. She died Aug. 18, 1994. Mr. Marlock is survived by: a daughter, Dolores K. Kimbler, Paducah, Ky.; three sisters, Sarah Safran, Stoneboro; Mary Kelly, Greenville; and Dorothy Jellison, Coraopolis, Pa.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Maupin, Bowling Green, Ky.; and Gwendlyn Langs-ton, Manheim, Germany; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Ryan Langs-ton, Bowling Green. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides his wife, Mr. Marlock was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Lee Rhoads; and his brother, Tom Marlock. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Grove City. Robert 'Bob' Elerby Sharon Steel retiree was an Army veteran A funeral service will be held Saturday for Robert "Bob" Elerby, 917 Baldwin Ave., Sharon. He passed away at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday (4-30-02) in his home. He was 74. A lifelong resident of the Shenango Valley, Mr. Elerby was born April 25, 1928, in Sharon to James Elerby Sr. and Ruth Logan Elerby. He attended Sharon schools and worked from September 1945 until his retirement March 1, 1986, for the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant. While there, Mr. Elerby was most recently employed in the company's blast furnace, where he was a utility man, slitter and water tender. He was a member of Ruth African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Sharon; and Veterans of Foreign Wars New Murray Bell Post 7597 in Farrell. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Elerby served in Germany and during the Korean conflict. He enjoyed reading. Surviving are: his wife, the former Elsie M. Truman, whom he married Oct. 11, 1958, at home; two daughters, Barbara Jean Elerby, Pittsburgh; and Pattie Elerby, Sharon; a son, Phillip J. Elerby, Jacksonville, N.C.; his mother, Farrell; a sister, Betty Dooms, Sharon; a granddaughter, Alexandra "Allie" Gilchrist, Sharon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Mr. Elerby was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, James "Sonny" Elerby Jr.
ELERBY Betty Jane Kennedy Sharon homemaker belonged to Oakland Avenue church Betty Jane Kennedy of 1004 Bon Air Drive in Sharon passed away peacefully at 10:22 a.m. April 30, 2002, in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon in Greenville following an extended illness. She was 83. Mrs. Kennedy was born Jan. 16, 1919, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Thomas C. and Alma Schneider Gallagher. A homemaker, she was a member of Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church in Sharon. Mrs. Kennedy especially enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren. Her husband, Jesse Carl Kennedy, whom she married June 26, 1943, passed away Nov. 9, 1987. Mrs. Kennedy is survived by: three sons, Thomas C. Kennedy and his wife Nancy, Sharon; Robert A. Kennedy and his wife Barbara, Pittsburgh; and W. Scott Kennedy and his wife Carol, Hermitage. Also surviving are: six grandchildren, Thomas Kennedy, Stacey Boccieri, Kelly Cameron, Melissa Whitsel, and Amanda and Jessica Kennedy; and three great-grandchildren, Sara Rose Boccieri; and Connor and Austin Simeone. MURRAY Doris Nichols Teacher was member of Tower Presbyterian ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Doris Nichols, 802 Kocher Drive, Grove City, died Tuesday (4-30-02) in North Fulton Regional Hospital. She was 86. Mrs. Nichols was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Grove City to Ralph and Margaretta Johnston Hillkirk. An alumna of Grove City High School and Grove City College, she served as a teacher in Jefferson Township and Harrisville, Grove City High School and Grove City College. Mrs. Nichols belonged to Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 86; and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem Shrine 53, both Grove City; and Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association. She was also a lifetime member of Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City. Surviving are: her husband, Ira Nichols, whom she married May 15, 1939, at home; and two daughters, Patricia Nichols, Pittsburgh; and Marcia Nichols, Alpharetta. Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her parents.
NICHOLS William Albert Gardlock '54 Farrell grad served in Marines, worked at Sawhill MEADVILLE -- A funeral Mass will be held Friday for William Albert Gardlock of 482 Baldwin St., Meadville, formerly of Broadway Avenue, Wheatland. He passed away at about 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, in his residence in Meadville following an extended illness. He was 66. Born Nov. 30, 1935, in Brookville, Pa., Mr. Gardlock was a son of the late Ralph A. and Anna Geraldine Clinger Gardlock. He moved to the Shenango Valley as a young man and was a 1954 alumnus of Farrell High School. Mr. Gardlock enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1957, serving his country until 1963. Bill was very patriotic, having been a proud member of American Legion Post 432 in Wheatland for a number of years, being a volunteer for bingo games. While living in the area, he attended both Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage and St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon. His first job was with Penn Power Co., where he was a lineman. He later was a foreman at Sawhill Tubular Products, now Wheatland Tube Co., and an auxiliary police officer for two years in Wheatland. Bill enjoyed fishing and listening to Elvis Presley and Johnny Mathis music, as well as watching John Wayne movies. He was devoted to his family, particularly his grandchildren. He loved his country and its people and enjoyed participating in local parades, particularly on Memorial Day. Survivors include: two daughters, Tina M. Gardlock, Niles, Ohio; and Mrs. Jeffrey A. (Christina L.) Vernille, Meadville; one son, Anthony A. Gardlock, Sharpsville; one sister, Mrs. Walter M. (Peggy Daugherty) Dolata, Hermitage; three brothers, Ronald J. Gardlock and his wife Catherine; and Richard T. Gardlock, both Hermitage; and Gerald C. Daugherty and his wife, Marianne, Brookfield; two grandchildren, Stephen and Brooklynn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gardlock was preceded in death by his stepfather, George C. Daugherty.

HAYMAKER Betty E. Schleicher Packard retiree had brother living in New Wilmington WARREN, Ohio -- Betty E. Schleicher, 9 Orange Drive, Warren, died at 10:46 p.m. Monday (4-29-02) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was 74. Betty was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Leesburg, a daughter of Wilbur and Helen King Ryder. She had worked for 25 years for Delphi Packard Electric Systems, Warren, retiring in 1982. Betty was a member of Leavittsburg (Ohio) Baptist Church. Surviving are: her husband, Ernest Schleicher, at home; a daughter, Judi Mondaine-Harr, Key Largo, Fla.; and a son, James Livermore, Warren. She also leaves: a brother, David Ryder, New Wilmington; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grand-children. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Melvin Ryder.
