Dorothy Louise Redfoot Barnes Liberty Twp. homemaker was active in grange organizations Dorothy Louise Redfoot Barnes, 47 Amsterdam Road, Liberty Township, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Trinity Living Center, Grove City, after a three-year illness. She was 69. Mrs. Barnes was born May 25, 1932, in Grove City to William K. Redfoot and Ruth Beulah Kaltenbaugh Redfoot. A homemaker, she was a member of Center Presbyterian Church, Grove City. Mrs. Barnes served in many offices with the London Grange and belonged to the Pennsylvania Grange, National Grange and Mercer County Pomona Grange associations. She also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 86 in Grove City. Her husband, John J. Barnes, whom she married Nov. 22, 1957, died Sept. 16, 1994. Surviving are: a daughter, Cynthia A. Barnes, Grove City; a half sister, Mrs. Charles (Lois) Barnes, Fenton, Mo.; and two half brothers, Wayne Bicehouse and his wife Edna, State College, Pa.; and Richard Bicehouse and his wife Patricia, Grove City. Besides her husband, Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her father; her mother, Ruth Bicehouse; her stepfather, Carl S. Bicehouse; and one brother, Willard Redfoot.
BARNES Virginia I. Brandt Sharpsville woman retired as UPMC Horizon bookkeeper Virginia I. Brandt, 377 Seventh St., Sharpsville, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in her home. She was 80. Mrs. Brandt was born April 26, 1922, in Sharpsville to Emery William and Florence Tait McCullough. She attended a one-room elementary school and graduated in 1939 from Sharon High School. She also graduated from the former Shenango Valley Commercial Institute of Sharon. Mrs. Brandt began a rewarding career in 1960 with the opening of the former Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital, now known as UPMC Horizon, Farrell, as senior bookkeeper, retiring in 1987. Her husband, Harry M. Brandt, whom she married March 9, 1942, died June 11, 1991. Surviving are: one son, Samuel Brandt and his wife, Lucille "Peggy," Sharpsville; two daughters, Judy A. Brandt, Sharpsville; and Mrs. Mark (Mary Lou) Manis, Sharpsville; one sister, Mary Jane Nickel, Sharpsville; three grandchildren, Sarah Brandt, Sharpsville; Mrs. Mark (Jenifer) Gladysz, West Middlesex; and Stephen Brandt, Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Jack Gladysz. COUSINS Gerald E. Doutt Clark man, '61 Hickory grad, owned construction business Gerald E. Doutt of 31 Nora St., Clark, passed away at 12:13 p.m. Wednesday (5-8-02) in Veterans Medical Center in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh following an extended illness. He was 59. Mr. Doutt was born June 12, 1942, in Sharon, a son of Earl and Leoma Weir Doutt. He was a 1961 alumnus of Hickory High School in Hermitage and also attended Youngstown State University. He was the owner and operator of Doutt Construction, Clark; and previously worked for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. until its closing. A Vietnam conflict veteran, having served with the U.S. Army as a medic, Mr. Doutt received his training from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. His tour of duty was from 1965 to 1966. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage. Mr. Doutt enjoyed antiques, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His wife, the former Cheryl Porsch, whom he married June 15, 1968, survives at home. Mr. Doutt also leaves: a son, Todd Doutt and his wife Dana, North Carolina; two daughters, Jenny Summers and her husband Mark, Hermitage; and Jeannie van der Snel and her husband Richard, Clark; his father, Hermitage; his brother, William Truby and his wife Myltreda, West Middlesex; and a sister, Karen Truchan and her husband John, Mercer. Also surviving are: his five grandchildren, Tiffany and Tanner van der Snel; Lindsay and Katie Summers; and Josh Doutt. Mr. Doutt was preceded in death by his mother; and one sister, Marjorie Vaughn. DOUTT Katherine 'Kitty' Fonagy Masury U.M. member retired as school cafeteria worker A funeral service will be held Saturday for Katherine "Kitty" Fonagy of 1377 Bedford Road, Masury. She passed away at 1:21 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 76. Born Feb. 6, 1926, in Sharon, Mrs. Fonagy was a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Balog Kurpe. Mrs. Fonagy attended Sharon schools and retired as a cafeteria worker for Brookfield School District, where she worked for more than 25 years. Prior to her marriage, Kitty had been employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. She was an active member of Masury United Methodist Church and its Ladies Group, and enjoyed traveling, bingo and playing cards with her friends. Her husband, John Fonagy Jr., whom she married May 18, 1947, preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1969. Survivors include: two sons, John M. Fonagy and his wife Denise, Masury; and William R. Fonagy and his wife Candice, Poland, Ohio; four grandchildren, Erik, Aleta, Kristofer and Tiffany; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Kurpe, Sharon; and Mae Kurpe, Hermitage. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Fonagy was preceded in death by two sisters, Vilma Kurpe and Margaret Smith; and four brothers, George, Michael, Steve and Julius Kurpe.

Alberta Rodgers Patterson, Slippery Rock, Butler County, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after a brief illness. She was 90. Mrs. Patterson was born June 3, 1911, in Armstrong County to Thomas V. Craig and Eva Jane Johns Craig. Alberta was owner of the oldest realty company in Butler County, Rodgers Realty Co. of Slippery Rock. She was a member of Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock. Very active in community affairs, Mrs. Patterson was a charter member of Slippery Rock Heritage Association, for which she served on its first board of directors; and was a member of the Pittsburgh Opera Guild; Butler Farmers Association; and the Pennsylvania Conservancy. She was a 65-year member and past president of General Federation of Women's Clubs Slippery Rock Chapter of the Woman's Club; was a past president for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 393, Slippery Rock; and was the longest-living member and past president of Butler County District American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Patterson was also a charter member of the Eight & 40 Butler Salon 866, an affiliate of American Legion Auxiliary; and belonged to the Pittsburgh Early American Glass Club, for which she was a former secretary; and the General Richard Butler Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. In the 1950s, she was secretary to the Pennsylvania State Polled Herferd Association in Harrisburg. Mrs. Patterson was also a past president of the Slippery Rock Republican Women's Club. Her first husband, J. Robert Rodgers, preceded her in death in 1959. Her second husband, Ray Patterson, is also deceased. Surviving are: a daughter, Evelyn Rodgers, at home in Slippery Rock; a stepson, Harold R. Rodgers, Littlestown, Pa.; a sister, Ethel Craig McConnell, Grove City; and numerous stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her first and second husbands, Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harry Craig, Charles Edward Craig and Robert Lloyd Craig; and two sisters, Jane Craig and Leora Craig Wylie. PATTERSON Frank 'Fritz' J. Paul Retired Sharon Steel foreman was St. Joe's church member Frank "Fritz" J. Paul, 383 North St., Sharon, died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 84. Mr. Paul was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Sharon to Alexander Paul and Anna Esztergar Paul. He attended Sharon schools and retired in 1980 as a foreman from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, after 42 years of service. Mr. Paul was active in the Steel Foreman's Association. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon. Surviving are: his wife, the former Mildred "Dolly" Harris, whom he married July 17, 1943, at home; three sons, Frank J. Paul and his wife Theresa Sue, Sharon; James E. Paul and his wife Debra, Reynolds; and John T. "Tom" Paul, also Sharon; three sisters, Isabella Raley, Sharon; Irene Sabo, Hubbard; and Sister Mary Redempta, Pittsburgh; and four grandchildren, Jeffrey J. Paul and Gregory J. Paul, both Sharon; Rebecca Paul Brown, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and Cory J. Paul, Greenville. Mr. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Catherine Dudas, Anna Slanitz and Charlotte Hideg; and three brothers, an infant, Alexander Paul; and Stephen and Alexander Paul.
