Samuel A. Steele Westinghouse retiree was farmer, active in church A funeral and committal service will be held Saturday for Samuel A. Steele of 284 Tait Road, Coolspring Township. He died at 6:05 a.m. Thursday morning, May 16, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 75. Mr. Steele was born Nov. 6, 1927, in Greenville, a son of the late Frank E. and Helen Bentley Steele. On May 5, 1951, he married the former Martha E. King, who survives. Mr. Steele retired in 1985 from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. as a coil winder after 38½ years of service. He also was a farmer, having owned and operated the family farm that was started by his grandfather, John Bentley, in Coolspring Township. Mr. Steele was a graduate of the former Stoneboro High School. As a member for more than 51 years of Coolspring Presbyterian Church in Fairview Township, he served as a Sunday school teacher for 25 years and had been an elder and corporate chairman for many years. Mr. Steele was an avid hunter and fisherman. Besides his wife, he is survived by: two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Trudy) Newton; and Deena Steele; and one son, Todd Steele, all Mercer; three sisters, Mrs. Max (Martha) Myers, Jamestown; Mrs. Wayne (Doris) Rickert, Greenville; and Margaret "Peg" Ealy, Sharpsville; five grandchildren, Jessica Newton, Sara Newton and Alissa Newton; and Lauren and Ellen "Blair" Steele, all Mercer. Besides his parents, Mr. Steele was preceded in death by a son, Kim LeRoy Steele; a sister, Emma Lou Holmes; and three brothers, Edson Steele, Charles Steele and Leroy Steele.
STEELE Helen Ann Karnell Arkansas homemaker was of the Catholic faith VAN BUREN, CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ark. -- Helen Ann Karnell, Clarksville, Johnson County, Ark., died of natural causes Wednesday evening, May 15, 2002, in Crawford Memorial Hospital. She was 81. Mrs. Karnell was born Oct. 18, 1920, in Plainfield, N.J., to Michael and Mary Mygygzyn Mliczek. A homemaker, she was of the Catholic faith. Her husband, Fredrick "Fritz" Karnell, died in March of 2001. Surviving are: a daughter, Victoria Mary and her husband Charles L. Roberts Jr., London, Ark.; a son, Fredrick Gunnar Karnell Jr. and his wife Celeste L. Karnell, Sharpsville; a sister, Sally VanZandt, Morristown, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Fredrick G. Karnell III; and Matthew Karnell, both Philadelphia; and Charles L. Roberts III, London. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Michael Anthony Karnell. A Rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Thursday (5-16-02) in Clarksville. A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. today (5-17-02) in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Clarksville, with the Rev. William Wewers, pastor, as celebrant. Donnie Caroll, Hal Stewart, Randy Palmer, Fred Karnell, Matthew Karnell and James Paxson served as pallbearers. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery, Clarksville. Catherine Kiester Catherine Kiester, 745 Dutch Lane, Hermitage, died at 12:40 p.m. Thursday (5-16-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 49. Obituary information was incomplete.
KIESTER Mae Ellen Christy Vincent GCC alumna, homemaker belonged to Grace United Mae Ellen Christy Vincent, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of State Street in Grove City, died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, after an extended illness. She was 87. Mrs. Vincent was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Grove City to Robert Christy and May E. Glatzau Christy. She was a graduate of Grove City High School Class of 1932 and Grove City College. A homemaker, Mrs. Vincent was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City. Her husband, Dean O. Vincent, whom she married on May 29, 1936, died July 31, 1979. Surviving are: two sons, Robert L. Vincent and his wife Lois, Noblesville, Ind.; and John D. Vincent and his wife Mary, Grove City; and one grandchild. Besides her husband, Mrs. Vincent was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Rita Christy, Lucille Dunn and Roberta Shorts; and one brother, Charles Christy.
VINCENT Tina M. Stanford Darden Farrell homemaker worked as aide, was crossing guard A funeral service will be held Saturday for Tina M. Stanford Darden, 117 Florida St., Farrell. She passed away at 10:33 p.m. Monday (5-13-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 86. Mrs. Darden was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Newton County, Ga., to Willie Stanford and Claudia Nix Stanford. She was the youngest girl of 13 children, nine girls and four boys. A longtime Shenango Valley resident, she was a former school crossing guard in Farrell and served as an aide with the Farrell Mayor's Human Relations Commission. Mrs. Darden also worked in the Emergency School Aide Act (ESAA) program during the 1970s. A homemaker, she was a former member of First Baptist Church in Farrell. Mrs. Darden enjoyed reading, visiting nursing homes and attending church services. Mrs. Darden loved the Lord and was faithful until her death. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Her husband, Randolph R. Darden, whom she married Jan. 10, 1935, died Nov. 6, 1967. Surviving are: a stepdaughter, Myrtice Brooks, Hampton, Ga.; a son, Hasco Darden and his wife Linda J., Farrell; her four grandchildren, Demetreus H. Darden, Aaron C. Darden, Pamela T. Darden; and Marlo Y. Abrams and her husband Kenneth; many nieces and nephews; cousins, including a special cousin, Rosa Lee Welch, Cincinnati; and a host of friends. All of her brothers, Clarence, Elmore, George and Norman Stanford; and her sisters, Lillie Crawford, Nellie Freeman, Vera Harris, Ruth McGuire, Sadie Scott, Marie Stephens, Cora Thomas and Lois Thomas, preceded her in death. Besides her siblings and her husband, Mrs. Darden was preceded in death by her parents; and her stepfather, John Hill.
