Paul L. Cook Paul L. Cook, 940 N. Stateline Road, Hermitage, died at 12:12 p.m. Sunday (5-19-02) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was 55. Obituary information was incomplete.
COOK Eric John Young Mercer church member worked at GC car dealership A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Eric John Young, 1500 Bend Road, Jefferson Township. He died at 2:55 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Clarion Hospital from injuries sustained in an accident during an all-terrain vehicle race, the Marienville Tour de Forest. He was 19. Mr. Young was born June 14, 1982, in Greenville to John H. Young and Sally Huston Young. He was a car detailer at Snyder Oldsmobile-Pontiac-Cadillac Inc. in Grove City. Mr. Young loved sports and was an auto enthusiast. Surviving besides his parents, of Mercer, are: his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Huston, also Mercer; a sister, Amanda Sue Young, at the residence; and a stepsister, Capt. Karyn Carignan, stationed in Insirlik, Turkey. Eric was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter Young and Freda Jane Young.
YOUNG Della C. Pearson Della C. Pearson, 856 N. Broad St. Extension, Pine Township, died at 4:45 a.m. today (5-20-02) in Orchard Manor, Pine Township. She was 91. Obituary information was incomplete.
PEARSON Eva E. Schein MINOA, N.Y. -- Eva E. Schein, Minoa, formerly of Hermitage, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday (5-19-02) in Hallmark Nursing Center after an extended illness. She was 92. Obituary information was incomplete.
SCHEIN Robert F. Hoffman Sr. Sharon Steel retiree was Army vet of WWII, Korea A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Robert F. Hoffman Sr., 934 Coleman Ave., Sharpsville. He died of natural causes at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 79. Mr. Hoffman was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Loretta, Pa., to Frank Hoffman and Suzanna McConnell Hoffman. An Army veteran, he served during World War II and the Korean conflict, having participated in fighting in Asia, the Pacific and at Pelellui Island. Mr. Hoffman belonged to American Legion Post 162; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, both Sharpsville. He retired in 1980 as a tow motor operator from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he worked for 30 years. Mr. Hoffman was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage; the Blue Army; and Knights of Columbus Council 684, Sharon. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved playing bingo and gardening. Mr. Hoffman was active in the Adopt-A-Child Program. His wife, the former Mary L. Latterner, whom he married Oct. 16, 1946, died March 15, 1976. Surviving are: eight daughters, Dianne Holzshu and Mrs. John (Marilyn) Bornes, both Hermitage; Mrs. Ron (Terri) Lutheran and Mrs. William (Sylvia) Hilko, both Transfer; Mrs. Thomas (Paula) Zajac Jr. and Rouxanne Hoffman, both Sharon; and Kimberly Vasconi and Shelly Dunder, both Sharpsville; two sons, Lynn Hoffman and his wife Debbie, Meadville; and Joe Hoffman and his wife Angel, Corpus Christy, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Warren (Pauline) Seymour, Sharpsville; a brother, Edward Hoffman and his wife Louise, Hermitage; 23 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. Hoffman was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert F. Hoffman Jr.; a grandson, David J. Bornes; a brother; and a sister.
HOFFMAN Angela Marie Cummings Italy-born, St. Joseph member was decorated WWII nurse Angela Marie Cummings of John XXIII Home in Hermitage, formerly of 156 Buhl Blvd., Sharon, passed away peacefully at 7:20 p.m. Saturday (5-18-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 98. Mrs. Cummings was born Dec. 29, 1903, in Muro Lucano, Italy, a daughter of Frank and Rose Marie Carbonara Zarella. She immigrated with her family to the United States at the age of 3 and settled in Hillsville, Ohio. Mrs. Cummings was an alumna of Farrell High School and earned her bachelor's degree from St. John's General Hospital School of Nursing on the north side of Pittsburgh. She had worked for 10 years as a registered nurse in Carnegie, Pa. With her husband, Mrs. Cummings had owned and operated for several years the former Penn-Lincoln Hotel in Imperial, Pa. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon, where she belonged to the Ladies Guild. Some of her other memberships included the National Chapter of AARP, a retired person's organization; the Disabled American Veterans; American Legion; and Army Nurse Corps. A decorated war veteran, Mrs. Cummings served as a surgical nurse during World War II with the U.S. Army, both in England and in France.Her husband, Raymond H. Cummings, whom she married June 24, 1943, passed away Sept. 16, 1994. She is survived by two sisters, Nellie Polite, Youngstown; and Josephine Zarella, Hermitage. Besides her husband, Mrs. Cummings was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Antoinette Wiesen; and Rose, Geraldine, Elizabeth and Mary Zarella; and a brother, Dominic F. Zarella. CUMMINGS Elsie Katherine Spangler Ex-Hermitage resident was HHS grad, member of clubs WARREN, Ohio -- A memorial service will be held at a later date for Elsie Katherine Spangler of 7554 Pegotty Drive NE, Warren, Ohio, formerly of Hermitage. She passed away at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in her residence after a long bout with cancer. She was 53. Born Aug. 8, 1948, in Sharon, Ms. Spangler was a daughter of the late Raymond and Josephine Hoffman Spangler. Elsie was a graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage and retired in 1997 as a receiving inspector from Dephi Packard Electric Systems in Warren, after 31 years of service. While there, she also worked as an auditor. A motorcycle enthusiast, she belonged to the Warren Harley Owners' Group and the Ladies of Harley. She enjoyed golfing and skiing and was a member of the Youngs-town and Warren Ski clubs. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 688, Warren. She was an animal lover who enjoyed spending time with her cat, Mr. Ashley. Ms. Spangler was a former member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Hermitage. Survivors include: her fiance, James W. Marling, with whom she made her home; a sister, Erma Spangler, Sharpsville; and two brothers, Raymond Spangler and his wife Myra, West Middlesex; and Robert Spangler and his wife Wanda, Erie.
