Paul L. 'Cookie' Cook
Packard retiree, Journal plant worker was '64 Hickory grad

A funeral service will be held Thursday for Paul L. "Cookie" Cook of 940 N. Stateline Road, Hermitage. He died Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, from injuries sustained in an automobile crash on May 2 of this year in Brookfield. He was 55.

Born Sept. 19, 1946, in Sharon, Mr. Cook was a son of the late David M. and Laurline V. Quillian Cook.

He was employed as a supply worker for Delphi Packard Electric Systems in Warren, Ohio, for 35 years. After retirement, he worked as a delivery person for The Wall Street Journal printing plant in Shenango Township and, later, USA Today newspaper.

He was a 1964 graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage and enjoyed golfing, boating, water skiing, fishing and woodworking. Mr. Cook also created wire sculptures and liked working on cars as a hobby.

He was of the Protestant faith.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Cook served as a sergeant during the Vietnam conflict.

His survivors include: his common-law wife, Wanda Timblin, at home; a stepdaughter, Margie Shields, Transfer; a stepgranddaughter, Brittany Shields; and two stepgrandsons, Zackary Shields and Cory Shields, all Greenville; a sister, Patricia, wife of Loren Sederburg, Tiona, Pa.; and two brothers, David M. Cook III, husband of Bonnie, Irvine, Pa.; and Robert Cook, husband of Linda, Hadley.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family requests donations be made to Patagonia Volunteer Fire Department, Superior Street, Hermitage 16148; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

David Clyde Jordan

Former GC man retired from Sharon job partnership

CLAYTON, N.C. -- David Clyde Jordan, Clayton, formerly of Grove City, died unexpectedly at 12:34 a.m. Wednesday morning, May 15, 2002, at home of a heart attack. He was 63.

David was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Grove City to Charles H. "C.H." Jordan and Gertrude King Jordan.

He was a graduate of Grove City High School and Youngstown State University.

He married the former Ann Williams Aug. 25, 1962, in Harbison Chapel at Grove City College.

Mr. Jordan retired in August 2000 from West Central Job Partnership in Sharon, where he was a director of operations.

David was a devoted husband, father, son-in-law and a proud and loving "Granddaddy" to his twin granddaughters.

He was an avid golfer; a devoted Cleveland Browns fan; a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1579, Grove City; and belonged to Cardinal Country Club.

He is survived by: his wife, Ann Williams Jordan; one daughter, Jill Jordan Beebe; his son-in-law, Timothy E. Beebe; twin granddaughters, Jordan Nicole Beebe and Katelyn Emily Beebe; and his mother-in-law, Emma Williams, all Clayton; one sister, Marilyn Jordan Dunkerley, Grove City; and one brother, John "Jack" Charles Jordan, Oakmont, Pa.

Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his mother and father.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, in Clayton, with the Rev. Charles K. Moseley, pastor of Horne Memorial United Methodist Church, Clayton, officiating.

Burial followed the service at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Clayton.

Della C. Winger Pearson
Reznor retiree belonged to GC's Holy Trinity Lutheran

A funeral service will be held Thursday for Della C. Winger Pearson, 856 N. Broad St. Extension, Pine Township. She died at 4:45 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, after a one-month illness. She was 91.

Mrs. Pearson was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Blacktown to Burt J. Winger and Mary Estella McCandless Winger.

She retired from Reznor -- a unit of Thomas & Betts Corp. in Mercer, where she was a custodian.

Mrs. Pearson was a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grove City.

Her husband, John H. Pearson, whom she married in 1927, died in 1969.

Surviving are: a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Steele, Grove City; two grandchildren, Mark Phillips and his wife Kathy, Warren, Pa.; and Timothy Steele and his wife Peggy, Cranberry Township, Butler County; and one brother, Burton Winger and his wife Sue, Sharon; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Pearson was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Elizabeth Phillips; a grandchild, Joseph Phillips; three sisters, Katherine, Mildred and Eleanor; and four brothers, Kenneth, Russell, Plummer and Curtis.

Eva Elizabeth Schein

Hungary-born Sharon church member was auxiliary officer

MINOA, N.Y. -- A funeral service will be held Saturday for Eva Elizabeth Schein, Minoa, formerly of Hermitage. She died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Hallmark Nursing Center after an extended illness. She was 92.

Mrs. Schein was born April 27, 1910, in Austria, Hungary, to Peter Romelfanger and Mary Laforch Romelfanger.

The member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon was a life member and former treasurer of Patagonia Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She also was a member of Adella Rebekah Lodge 284 and the Maenerchor Club, both Sharon.

Her husband, Joseph Schein, preceded her in death April 8, 1973.

Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Joanne) Kashmer, Hastings, N.Y.; four grandchildren, David Kashmer, Patricia Moore, Barbara Lyke and Maryann Pfohl; and nine great-grandchildren, Edward, Noah, Jacqueline, Brandon, Sean, Stephanie, Joseph, Melody and Rebecca.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Steven Romelfanger.

Dr. James M. Phythyon

Former Sharpsville man was retired Vanderbilt professor

NASHVILLE -- Dr. James M. Phythyon, Nashville, formerly of Sharpsville, died on the morning of Friday, May 10, 2002, in Centennial Medical Center after an extended illness of chronic pulmonary disease. He was 74.

Dr. Phythyon was born July 23, 1927, in Pittsburgh to Dr. Dan Phythyon and Dorothy Reed Phythyon.

He attended Sharpsville High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Allegheny College in Meadville; a master of arts in Russian Studies from Vanderbilt University; and a doctorate in Medicine from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore.

He completed house staff training at Vanderbilt in pathology and was awarded a National Foundation Fellowship to study tissue culture at New York University, after which he practiced pathology at Baptist Hospital. He completed a second residency at Vanderbilt in anesthesiology and, in 1992, retired from Vanderbilt University as a professor of anesthesiology.

Dr. Phythyon enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served as a medical corpsman at Camp Pendleton Marine Base, Calif.

He had been a board member of the Bill Wilkerson Hearing and Speech Center, Nashville; and belonged to the English Speaking Union.

As a member of Christ Episcopal Church Cathedral in Nashville, he served as a former vestryman.

He is survived by: his wife, Marlin Jones Phythyon, at home; three daughters, Mary Neal Meador, wife of Clifton K. Meador Jr., New Paltz, N.Y.; Marlin Elizabeth Donner, wife of John H. Donner, Orchard Park, N.Y.; and Sarah Reed Miller, wife of James R. Miller, Corvallis, Ore.; a sister, Juliana O'Neill, wife of William E. O'Neill, Daytona Beach, Fla.; a brother, Hugh R. Phythyon, Hermitage; five grandsons, James Clifton Meador, Wilson Laird Meador, John Henry Donner Jr., Walter Eugene O'Neill Donner and Reed James Miller; and one granddaughter, Madolyn Harris Miller.

Dr. Phythyon was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Dan Phythyon of Sharon.

A memorial service with prior visitation was held at 2 p.m. May 14, 2002, in Christ Episcopal Church Cathedral of Nashville, with Dean Kenneth Swanson officiating. His cremated remains were placed in the church columbarium.

Andrew L. Marlock
Retiree formerly of GC had belonged to Beloved Disciple

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Andrew L. Marlock, Fort Wayne, formerly of Grove City, died Monday evening, April 15, 2002, in Parkview Hospital. He was 83.

Mr. Marlock was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Stoneboro to Martin and Edna Lengauer Marlock.

He retired in 1986 as a foreman and supervisor for Magnavox in Fort Wayne.

A Catholic by faith, Mr. Marlock was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, and previously belonged to Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City.

He was a golf enthusiast and also enjoyed bowling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Steckler Marlock. She died Aug. 18, 1994.

Mr. Marlock is survived by: a daughter, Dolores K. Kimbler, Paducah, Ky.; three sisters, Sarah Safran, Stoneboro; Mary Kelly, Greenville; and Dorothy Jellison, Coraopolis, Pa.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Maupin, Bowling Green, Ky.; and Gwendlyn Langs-ton, Manheim, Germany; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Ryan Langs-ton, Bowling Green.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides his wife, Mr. Marlock was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Lee Rhoads; and his brother, Tom Marlock.
