Today's obituaries Iva Susanna Boyd Ex-Greenville resident, quilter was Jerusalem UCC member Iva Susanna Boyd, St. Paul Homes, 339 E. Jamestown Road, West Salem Township, formerly of Hittle and Penn avenues, both Greenville, passed away at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in St. Paul Homes. She was 86. Mrs. Boyd was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Perry Township to Mont E. and Nora Bell Ruhlman. She was a member of Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Otter Creek Township. Mrs. Boyd was an avid quilter and belonged to the Busy Bee Quilter's Club. She also enjoyed crafts and spending time with her family and friends. Her husband, Stanley E. Boyd, whom she married Feb. 16, 1938, preceded her in death June 22, 1973. Surviving are: three sons, Dale M. Boyd and Ralph S. Boyd, both Greenville; and J. Keith Boyd, Sidney, Ohio; a brother, David K. Ruhlman, Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Betty) Stephens, Altha, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Wayne, Warren and Robert Ruhlman; and a sister, Margaret S. Ruhlman. BOYD Margaret C. Urda Ex-Greenville resident owned Mercer hairstyling business LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Margaret C. Urda, 13402 Rockinghorse Road, Garden Grove, Calif., formerly of Greenville, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in Scripps Hospital. She was 83. Mrs. Urda was born Jan. 4, 1919, in Greenville to Frank A. Freeman and Elizabeth E. Junk Freeman. She was a graduate of the former St. Michael's High School in Greenville and was owner and operator for 25 years of Margaret Urda Hairstyling in Mercer. Mrs. Urda was a member of St. Columbans Church in Garden Grove and a former member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville. She was also a former member of the auxiliary unit of American Legion Post 140, Greenville. Mrs. Urda enjoyed walking and spending time with her grandchildren. Her husband, Stephen P. Urda, whom she married Aug. 13, 1949, died Oct. 31, 1951. Surviving are: a son, Stephen P. Urda Jr. and his wife Karen, Garden Grove; two sisters, Mrs. Francis (Jeanne) Sperl, Dubois, Pa.; and Lucretia Ramsey, Greenville; a brother, William Freeman, Wheeling, W.Va.; and two grandchildren, Stephen and David Urda. Besides her husband, Mrs. Urda was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary K. Freeman; and two brothers, Francis and Raymond Freeman. URDA Nelson C. 'Bud' Bailey Westinghouse retiree, WWII vet lived in West Salem Twp. Nelson C. "Bud" Bailey, 4 Beech Road, West Salem Township, died at 3:39 a.m. Tuesday (5-21-02) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following a brief illness. He was 82. Mr. Bailey was born May 29, 1919, in Greenville to Dr. Nelson J. and Georgia McVay Bailey. The graduate of Thiel College, Greenville, served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the medical field. He retired as an order correspondent in both the Reynolds Development and Sharon office of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Mr. Bailey was previously a member of the former Maysville Community Church, Greenville. He most recently was a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship, West Salem Township. He enjoyed reading. His first wife, the former Aurilia Christy, died in 1968. Surviving are: his wife, the former Nema Dawes, whom he married in 1970; two sons, John R. Bailey, Greenville; and James M. Bailey, Akron, Ohio; one sister, Margie Mehler, Gibsonia, Pa.; one brother, Hugh Bailey, Raleigh, N.C.; seven stepchildren, Glenn Humphrey, Mrs. William (Shirley) Riggs, Gerry Humphrey, Paul Humphrey, Joe Hall, Jim Hall and Donald Hall; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Jane Ramsey. BAILEY Sophie V. Martin Homemaker once belonged to Hickory Women's Club Sophie V. Martin, Nugent Convalescent Home, formerly of Lyle Drive, both in Hermitage, passed away at 9:36 a.m. Tuesday (5-21-02) in the nursing home from complications of a burn she recently sustained. She was 85. She was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Hartshorne, Okla., a daughter of Walter and Julia Kozdron Yadwisiak. A homemaker, she was a former member of the Hickory Women's Club. Along with her husband, she vacationed in Florida where she was a volunteer at the Holy Cross Hospital in Pompano Beach. Some of her interests included ceramics, collecting glassware and playing bingo. Her husband, Joseph S. Martin, whom she married Nov. 8, 1936, passed away Oct. 17, 1997. She is survived by her son, Ronald Joseph Martin and his wife, Barbara, Hermitage. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Harold (Josephine) Wright, Rocky Ford, Colo. CAMPBELL Mary A. Androsko Gunesch Ex-Sharon homemaker lived in Virginia, had son in Farrell NORFOLK, Va. -- Mary A. Androsko Gunesch, 5023 Cyprus Point Circle, Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Sherman Avenue, Sharon, died of natural causes at 10:54 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in Sentara Leigh Hospital. She was 88. Mrs. Gunesch was born July 2, 1913, in Farrell to John and Mary Lenyo Androsko. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church in Virginia Beach; and a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. Her husband, Henry J. Gunesch, whom she married Sept. 1, 1934, died April 20, 1968. Surviving are: a daughter, Janet Kennedy, wife of William W., Virginia Beach; a son, Henry J. Gunesch, husband of Lisa, Farrell; and a son-in-law, George Jones, Hilton Head, S.C. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren living in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas, Georgia and Ohio. Besides her husband, Mrs. Gunesch was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Norma J. Jones; a sister, Anna Cummerick; and five brothers, John, Paul, Michael, Andrew and George Androsko. In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, the family has requested that friends do a good deed for an elderly person and offer support to a caregiver.
GUNESCH Sadie Rose Lengyel Infant Sadie Rose Lengyel passed away unexpectedly at birth at 5:50 p.m. Monday (5-20-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was the daughter of Gregory J. and Heather DeTullio Lengyel of 17 Mercer Ave., Wheatland. She is survived by her parents; one brother, Colton James Lengyel; her paternal grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Lengyel, Sharpsville; her maternal grandparents, Dennis and Gwen DeTullio, Greenville; and her maternal great-grandmother, Josephine DeTullio, Greenville. PODLEYON Harriett M. Connally Brookfield High grad retired as civilian from Air Force A funeral service will be held Friday for Harriett M. Connally, Masury, formerly of Cathedral Drive, Farrell. She died at 11:50 a.m. Monday (5-20-02) in Orange Village Care Center, Masury. She was 83. Mrs. Connally was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Sharon to John L. Hill and Susie Hunt Hill. She was a graduate of Brookfield High School Class of 1938 and attended Miami Jacobs College in Dayton, Ohio. A longtime retiree, Mrs. Connally was employed as a civilian in the Accounting and Travel Finance Department of the U.S. Air Force. She was a member of New and Living Way Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Farrell. Mrs. Connally enjoyed crocheting and traveling. Her husband, Edward Connally, whom she married Oct. 2, 1966, died April 7, 1970. Surviving are: a daughter, Charlotte Stewart, wife of the Rev. Robert Stewart, Hermitage; a son, Robert James Hill and his wife Shermaine, Columbus; 10 grandchildren, Vernon L. Stewart and his wife Delphinia, on active duty with the U.S. Army in Germany; Lisa A. Stewart, Farrell; Omar S. Stewart and his wife Nicola, Farrell; Sonja Hill, Dayton; Holly Hill and Julius Hill, both Columbus; Lynette and her husband Tony Hardy, California; Robert Stewart Jr. and his wife Janice, Farrell; Kathy and her husband Gerald Chester, Hermitage; and Daniel Stewart and his wife Gloria, also California; a host of great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Connally was preceded in death by her parents. The last of her siblings, Harriett also was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes L. Matthews and Beatrice Lomax; and three brothers, John, George and Julius Hill.
