Rose Mitru Hank Sharon native formerly lived in Howland Rose Mitru Hank, formerly of 127 Valley Circle, Howland, Ohio, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, in Pomona (Calif.) Valley Hospital. She was 83. Mrs. Hank was born July 18, 1918, in Sharon to George and Ana Cojoc Mitru. She came to Braceville, Ohio, in 1950 from Pennsylvania. Mrs. Hank moved in 1986 to Howland and had been living since March with her daughter in California. She was a member of Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church in Warren, Ohio. Her husband, John Hank, whom she married Oct. 25, 1947, died Oct. 27, 1983. Surviving are: a son, John R. Hank, Calabasas, Calif.; a daughter, Carol Able, Chino Hills, Calif., with whom she made her home; and one grandchild. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Diane Burbick; two brothers George and Romie Mitru; and one sister, Ann Hines.
HANK Roberta M. Miller Transfer church member was Anderson bus driver Roberta M. Miller, White-Cliff Nursing Home, 110 Fredonia Road, Hempfield Township, formerly of Transfer, died at 9:20 a.m. June 4, 2002, in the nursing home after an extended illness. She was 79. Mrs. Miller was born Aug. 7, 1922, in McDonald, Ohio, to Robert E. and Bronta Arner Robinson. She graduated in 1940 from Sharpsville High School. Mrs. Miller was a driver for 12 years with Anderson Coach & Tour in Greenville. She worked at Packard Electric during World War II. The member of First Baptist Church, Transfer, was a charger member of both Transfer Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary and the former Transfer Grange. She also belonged to the "Hi" Neighbor Club, connected with Mercer County Cooperative Extension, Coolspring Township, and founded in 1948. Mrs. Miller was an avid knitter. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband, Rueben L. Miller, whom she married May 2, 1942, died Oct. 29, 2001. Surviving are: two daughters, Becky Lynn Travis, Edinboro; and Joyce A. Warshaurer, Anchorage, Alaska; one son, Robert L. Miller, Andover, Ohio; one sister, Peggy L. Myers, Greenville; eight grandchildren, Robin Poklar, Rhonda Kaltenbaugh, Timothy Shearer, Kevin Travis, Renee Lasky, Barbara Glass, Carol Davison and David Miller; and 14 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert R. Robinson Jr. and William C. Robinson; and one sister, Bonita Struble. MILLER Philip F. Carlson Korean War veteran retired from Foster Grading Co. Funeral service will be Thursday for Philip F. Carlson, 310 Fairground Road, Stoneboro. He died at 5:50 p.m. Monday (6-3-02) in Autumn Grove Care Center, Harrisville, after an extended illness. He was 71. He was born April 28, 1931, in Stoneboro to Margaret J. Carlson. He was a 1949 graduate of the former Stoneboro High School. In his early years, he worked for the state highway department. In 1992, he retired from Foster Grading Co. of Jackson Center after 30 years of service. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Teamsters Local 261 of New Castle. He was a member of American Legion Post 159 of Mercer and of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed old cars and watching NASCAR racing. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He married Margaret Ann Corll on Nov. 3, 1956. She survives. Also surviving are two nieces, Cheri K. Barnes, Allison Park; and Deanne Lee Fahrney, Gibsonia, Pa.; one nephew, Robert D. Wilson, Mercer; two great-nieces, Allison and Kaitlin Wilson, Mercer; and one great-nephew, Dylan Barnes, Allison Park. He was preceded in death by his mother and his sister, Margaret "Peggy Lou" Wilson.
CARLSON Sister Sebastian Derloni Nun taught in schools in Greenville, Farrell ERIE -- Sister Sebastian Derloni, Religious Sisters of Mercy, died Saturday (6-1-02) in Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse. Sister Sebastian was born Jan. 27, 1914, in Williams, Ariz., daughter of the late Louis and Satina DeMicheli Derloni. She later moved to Farrell. She was in her 67th year of religious life and entered the Sisters of Mercy on June 20, 1935, at Mercyhurst College in Erie. She professed perpetual vows April 22, 1941, and marked her diamond jubilee in 1996. Her ministry was in nursing and education. She served from 1943 to 1955 as an anesthetist at DuBois (Pa.) Hospital. Sister Sebastian taught at St. Michael School in Greenville; St. Walburga School in Titusville; St. Edward School in Corry; St. Patrick School in Franklin; Saints Cosmas and Damian School in Punxsutawney; Monsignor Geno J. Monti School in Farrell; and St. Luke and St. George schools in Erie, all in the Catholic Diocese of Erie. She received a bachelor of science degree in 1942 from Mercy College in Detroit; and a degree in 1943 from Mercy College of Anesthesia. Sister Sebastian also attended Mercyhurst College and Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. Surviving are: four sisters, Rose Derloni, Mary Derloni and Louise Derloni, all Hermitage; and Victoria Bertelli, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Derloni; and two sisters, Jennie and Josephine Derloni. Rite of Committal was at 9:15 a.m. today (6-5-02) in the chapel of Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Erie. Memorials may be made to Sisters of Mercy Ministry Fund, 444 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie 16504. John M. 'Jack' Rainier Tire businesses founder, co-owner had sons here John M. "Jack" Rainier, 12070 Choctaw Circle, Conneaut Lake, died Monday, June 3, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following an extended illness. He was 69. Mr. Rainier was born June 7, 1932, in New Kensington, a son of Merrill C. and Freida E. Sweitzer Rainier. He married Dorothy Kelly Moran on April 29, 1985. She survives. A 1950 graduate of New Castle High School, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Business Fraternity at Allegheny College, Meadville, where he graduated in 1953 with a bachelor of arts degree in business administration. He was well known in the retail tire industry as the founder and co-owner of Silver Street Tire Co., Sharon; Belmont Tire Co., Youngs-town; and Warren (Ohio) Tire Co. He was most recently employed prior to his retirement as supervisor for Goodwill Industries, Youngs-town. Survivors in addition to his wife include four sons, John R. "Rick" Rainier, Fort Myers, Fla.; Rob Rainier and Mark Rainier, both Hermitage; and Richard W. Rainier, Transfer; and two daughters, Lynn Rainier McClafferty and Lesley Rainier, both Streetsboro, Ohio. He is also survived by four stepsons, Mike Moran, Mesa, Ariz.; Ron Moran, Youngstown; Ed Moran, Kidron, Ohio; and Joe Moran, Youngstown; two stepdaughters, Becky Moran Darbey, Howland; and Kathy Moran of Anchorage, Alaska; 15 grandchildren; his mother, New Castle; and a brother, King Rainier, Upper St. Clair, Pa. He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Joan Rainier Trent.
RAINIER Josephine Irene Skertic Westinghouse retiree was St. Anthony parishioner Josephine Irene Skertic, of O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury, formerly of 1108 Sherman Ave., Sharon, passed away peacefully at 4:10 p.m. Monday (6-3-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 86. Miss Skertic was born April 27, 1916, in Rootsboro, Vt., the daughter of Roko and Dora Vukin Skertic. She lived in Sharon for most of her life and was a faithful member of St. Anthony Church in Sharon, which was a cherished part of her life, as was her family. She was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for more than 40 years, retiring in 1978. Retirement years offered her time to travel and visit family members, most of whom lived in other parts of the country. She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Barbara Friedrich, Oxnard, Calif.; Mrs. Ann Price, Camarillo, Calif.; and Mrs. Mary Sharp and Mrs. Pauline Gardner, both Peoria, Ill.; two brothers, Thomas Skertic, Hermitage; and Stephen Skertic and his wife Maria, Cleveland, all of whom are in deep mourning over their loss of a very caring and loving sister. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Matthew and John Skertic.
