Joseph A. Palica Pittsburgh postal retiree lived in Sandy Lake Twp. Joseph A. Palica, 1291 Hendersonville Road, Sandy Lake Township, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (6-18-02) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after a short illness. He was 74. Mr. Palica was born March 30, 1928, in McKeesport, Pa., to Anthony Palicia and Anna Hrisak Palicia. He attended the former Sandy Lake High School and retired after 40 years of employment with the U.S. Postal Service in its Pittsburgh office. A U.S. Army Air Force veteran, Mr. Palica served from 1946 to 1949, having achieved the rank of sergeant. He was of the Catholic faith. Surviving are: a daughter, Beverly Braun and her husband, Joseph, Hartland, Wis.; four brothers, Lucas Palicia, Erie; Peter Palicia, Willowick, Ohio; and Zachary Palicia and his wife, Jean; and David "Dave" Palicia and his wife, Teresa, all Stoneboro; two sisters, Dorothy Krolikowski and her husband, Michael, Meadville; and Lucy Pistone and her husband, Russell, Winnetka, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Sarah and Steven Braun. Mr. Palica was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael T. Palicia and Patrick Palicia; and one sister, Mary Bolog. PALICA Gertrude Martin Gertrude Martin, formerly of Hermitage, died at 2:45 a.m. today (6-20-02) in Orchard Manor, Pine Township. She was 93. Obituary information was incomplete. MARTIN Anna M. Schmouder Kilmer Volant-area resident was Wilmington school custodian Anna M. Schmouder Kilmer, Volant R.R. 2, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon (6-19-02) in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, after an extended illness. She was 82. Mrs. Kilmer was born Jan. 10, 1920, in the Liberty R.D. 1 area of Lycoming County, Pa., to Alton John Schmouder and Nancy Regina Mitstifer Schmouder. A 1938 graduate of Liberty High School, she was employed in the custodial department of Wilmington Area School District. Mrs. Kilmer was a member of the former Volant Presbyterian Church. Surviving are: her husband, George Edward Kilmer, whom she married Feb. 9, 1941, at the residence; five daughters, Nancy and her husband, Jack Cearfoss, New Castle; Helen and her husband, Dale McCarrick, Newark Valley, N.Y.; Darlene and her husband, John Marett, New Wilmington; Karen and her husband, Dave McCord, Plantation, Fla.; and Virginia and her husband, David McConnell, Volant; four sons, Claude Kilmer and his wife, Betty, New Castle; Larry Kilmer and his wife, Beverly, Quincy, Fla.; Earl "Butch" Kilmer and his wife, Cathy, New Wilmington; and Roy Kilmer and his wife, Theresa, Volant; two sisters, Dorothy Miller, New Jersey; and Thelma Douglass, Williamsport, Pa.; three brothers, Dean Schmouder, Williamsport; and Delbert Schmouder and Lehman Schmouder, both Liberty; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kilmer was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mabel Brucklacher; and three brothers, Franklin, Earl and Russell Schmouder. KILMER Dave Johnson CINCINNATI -- Dave Johnson, 800 Duncan Court, Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Farrell, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (6-19-02) in Cincinnati University Hospital. He was 51. Obituary information was incomplete. JOHNSON Jean Campbell-Hassan Obituary was published 6-19-02 Jean Campbell-Hassen, Penn Hills, was born Dec. 30, 1924 in Mill Creek Township, a daughter of the late William Patterson Marsteller and Alice Stone Marsteller. The Herald was given additional information. CAMPBELL-HASSAN Paul Leonard Yasher Retiree of Eazor Trucking in WM lived in Pulaski Paul Leonard Yasher, 41 Cones-toga Trail, Pulaski, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, June 19, 2002, in his residence after an apparent heart attack. He was 68. Mr. Yasher was born Nov. 7, 1933, in New Bedford to Joseph P. Yasher and Elizabeth Bator Yasher. A 1952 graduate of Union High School, New Castle, he retired from Eazor Trucking in West Middlesex, where he was a former member of the Teamsters union. He formerly worked for Mesta Machine in New Castle. Mr. Yasher belonged to the New Bedford Lions Club; and St. James the Apostle Church in New Bedford. He loved to travel and often transported Amish friends. Mr. Yasher also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Yasher participated on the Veterans of Foreign Wars West Middlesex Post 6233 bowling team. Surviving are: his wife, the former Loretta Hardisky, whom he married Feb. 11, 1956, at the residence; a son, Paul Yasher and his wife, Barb, New Castle; three daughters, Kimmy Bretz and her husband, Willis, Pulaski; Terry Lewis and her husband, William, New Castle; and Cindy Lesinski and her husband, Mark, Castaic, Calif.; one brother, Edward Yasher and his wife, Joanne, Hubbard; a sister, Elizabeth Baskey and her husband, Joseph, Youngstown; and 10 grandchildren. Mr. Yasher was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sons; one brother, Joseph Yasher; and two sisters, Delores Myers and Dorothy Bauder. YASHER Carl J. Yankovich Korean War veteran retired from Sharon Steel A funeral service will be held Saturday for Carl J. Yankovich, 1700 Ashton Ave., Sharpsville. He passed away peacefully at 6 p.m. Tuesday (6-18-02) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 70. Mr. Yankovich was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Farrell to Stephen Yankovich and Theresa Basar Yankovich. A lifelong area resident, Carl was a 1949 alumnus of Farrell High School. He also attended Pennsylvania State University, University Park. He retired in the early 1990s as a metallurgist from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he had been employed for 37 years. Following his retirement, he was a courier for a couple of years for Eckard Drugs, Hermitage. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, Sharpsville; and the American Carpatho-Russian Citizens and Social Club, Sharon. An outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Yankovich served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He married Donna Grace Ogden on June 2, 1956. She died June 29, 2001. He is survived by: two daughters, Linda S. Yankovich, at home; and Cindy A. Yankovich, Poland, Ohio; and her fiance, Brian Prior. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Mr. Yankovich was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Susan Marie Yankovich; and a brother, Joseph Yankovich. YANKOVICH Dr. Spiro N. Mason D.M.D. Oral surgeon retired from Sharon hospital, was Mason A funeral service will be held Friday for Dr. Spiro N. Mason D.M.D., 3891 McConnell Road, Hermitage. He died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2002, in Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He was 65. Dr. Mason was born Dec. 12, 1936, in Sharon to Nicholas Mason and Artemis Maurovdis Mason. An alumnus of Sharon High School, he earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his doctor of dentistry from its School of Dentistry. Dr. Mason specialized in oral surgery and attended Temple University in Philadelphia, completing an internship and residency program at New York Hospital and at Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Mason was appointed to the staff of Sharon Regional Health System in 1967 and was in active practice until 1998, when he retired as chief of oral surgery. He was also an active member of the tumor, education and library committees of the hospital. He belonged to the American Dental Association, American College of Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery, Mercer County Dental Association and Sharon Country Club. Dr. Mason was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Lodge 810, Hermitage, for which he served as a Master Mason; belonged to Zem Zem Temple of the Shrine, Erie; and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rites Mason in Scottish Rites New Castle Consistory. He was also a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Farrell. As a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Dr. Mason achieved the rank of captain and served as chief of oral surgery in Okinawa, Japan; and at Fort Knox, Ky. He was also active during the Vietnam conflict. His wife, the former Alanea J. Vaso, whom he married May 13, 1978, survives at home. Also surviving are: a son, Johnathan S. Mason; and a daughter, Nicole A. Mason, both at home; his mother; and a sister, Kathryn Stanos, wife of Attorney Steven Stanos, all Boardman, Ohio; a niece, Artemis Stanos, Chicago; and five nephews, Dr. Peter Stanos and Dr. Steven Stanos, both Columbus, Ohio; Nicholas Stanos, New York City; and Brandon and Brent Pavone, both Brookfield. Dr. Mason was preceded in death by his father. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1007 Washington Ave., Farrell 16121; or Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, 2599 Broadway Ave., Hermitage 16148.
