Grace Lynette Chambers
Grace Lynette Chambers, 343 Patt Drive, Farrell, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Sunday (6-30-02) in Magee-Womens Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 23 days old.

Grace was born June 7, 2002, in the hospital to Rufus Chambers Jr. and Diane Thomas Chambers.

Surviving besides her parents at home are: her paternal grandmother, Myrtle R. Chambers; and maternal grandmother, Minnie B. Thomas, both Sharon; two sisters, MaKisha Chambers, Hermitage; and Danielle Thomas/Shelley, at home; one brother, Rufus Chambers III, at home; a niece, Tyesha N. Bruce, Hermitage; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her grandfathers preceded her in death.

Michael D. Cipriano

'69 Sharpsville grad was Navy vet, worked in Andover

Michael D. Cipriano, 7266 W. Market St., Lackawannock Township, died at 8:55 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following an extended illness. He was 50.

Mr. Cipriano was born Dec. 27, 1951, in Sharon to Michael Charles Cipriano and Deloris L. Palmer Cipriano.

He was a 1969 graduate of Sharpsville High School.

A Navy veteran, Mr. Cipriano served on the USS Okinawa during the Vietnam conflict, having achieved the rank of FN.

He was a machine operator for seven years at Andover (Ohio) Industries.

Mr. Cipriano enjoyed old cars and trucks.

Surviving are: his parents, Michael and Deloris Cipriano, Mercer; two sisters, Victoria Anne Cipriano, Mercer; and Sandra Lee Cipriano, Warren, Ohio; a brother, Richard Cipriano and his wife Christine, Sharpsville; one nephew, William Michael Cipriano; four nieces, Carrie Lynn Cipriano, Roxanne Renee Cipriano, Felicia Cipriano and Shania Cipriano.

Mr. Cipriano was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Doris E. 'Dee Gee' 'Deege' Hipwell

Titusville retiree had daughter living in Sharon

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Doris E. "Dee Gee" "Deege" Hipwell of 315 E. Walnut St., Titusville, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002, in Atlantic City while vacationing with her family. She was 67.

Dee Gee was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Sullivan, Ind., to Melvin Emert and Annetta Carson Emert.

After graduation from Titusville High School in 1952, she worked as an auto title clerk for the Medina County (Ohio) Clerk of Courts. Dee Gee retired in 1994 and returned to her hometown, Titusville, where she lived with her sister, Marian Laskos.

She worked part time at the Drake Well Museum Gift Shop, Titusville.

Dee Gee took pleasure in playing bridge, going out to eat, attending social gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Titus Church; and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 264, both Titusville.

Dee Gee is survived by: a daughter, Lee Ann Tishman, wife of Dr. Neal Tishman, Sharon; a son, Thomas Paul Hipwell and his wife Kelley, Parma, Ohio; a son, Mark James Hipwell; her sister, Marian Laskos, Titusville; grandchildren Benjamin and Daniel Tishman; and Thomas and Abby Hipwell; stepgrandchildren Brooke and Melissa Hawdon; nieces Julia and Ann Taylor; and nephew David Stewart.

Her parents; and step father, Peter Laskos, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Titus Church, 513 W. Main St.; or the Elks Scholarship Fund in care of BPOE Lodge 264, West Central Avenue, both Titusville 16354.

Mazie Belle Griffith

Sharon woman belonged to Covenant Presbyterian

A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Mazie Belle Griffith of 163 White Ave., Sharon. She died of natural causes at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2002, in her home after an extended illness. She was 90.

She was the widow of Clarence A. Griffith.

Born Sunday, July 16, 1911, in Sharon, Mrs. Griffith was a daughter of the late Harry L. and Jennie B. Stevens Dunham.

She had worked as a clerk at the former Guys & Dolls children's clothing store in Hermitage for five years.

Mrs. Griffith was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon for more than 50 years, where she had taught Sunday school and belonged to the Rho Sigma Sunday school class.

Mrs. Griffith was a 1929 graduate of Sharon High School, and in her younger years had been very active in the area Republican party.

She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by: a daughter, Sally, wife of William Silver, Cleveland; a daughter, Joan, wife of Walter Dunlavey, Hermitage; a daughter, Janet Miller, Sharon; and a son, Joel M., husband of Donna Griffith, also Hermitage. She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by five brothers, Harry Dunham Jr.; and Walter, Homer, Robert and William Dunham.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Elevator Fund of Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 E. State St., Sharon 16146.

Mary Ann Sucic

Mercer church member was retired clerk in mall Sears

Mary Ann Sucic of Mercer, formerly of Clairton, died Sunday morning, June 30, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 65.

Mrs. Sucic was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Clairton to Michael F. Mihalko and Mary Demchak Mihalko.

She retired as a sales clerk from Sears in the Shenango Valley Mall, Hermitage.

Mrs. Sucic was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Mercer; and belonged to the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association Branch 177, Clairton.

Surviving are: one son, Joseph Sucic Jr., Davison, Mich.; one daughter, Kimberly Burdick, Sharpsville; one sister, Gloria Barela, Apple Valley, Calif.; two brothers, Michael F. Mihalko, Clairton; and Edward J. Mihalko, San Antonio; and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sucic was predeceased by her parents; and a sister, Elsie Cain.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 2 Gateway Center, 13 North, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222.

Michael S. Voyda

Sawhill retiree, union officer was Army vet, outdoorsman

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday (7-3-02) for Michael S. Voyda, 492 W. Park St., Hermitage. He died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday (6-30-02) in his home after an extended illness. He was 71.

Mr. Voyda was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Sharon, the son of Joseph and Mary Gensko Voyda.

A lifelong area resident, he worked 43 years at Sawhill Tubular Division of what was Armco, Sharon, and retired in 1990 as a craneman.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Farrell, where he previously served as an usher.

Mr. Voyda belonged to the Knights of Columbus Sharon Council 684.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. As an artist, he painted many outdoor scenes.

He was a member of United Steel Workers of America Local Union 1016, where he served as president and vice president.

Mr. Voyda served three years with the U.S. Army.

His wife, the former Bessie I. Baker, whom he married Sept. 18, 1954, survives at home.

He also leaves his one daughter, Bonnie Voyda of Erie; and two sons, Michael J. Voyda and his wife, Diana, Sharpsville; and Timothy W. Voyda, Hermitage.

He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Margaret) Yuran, Hermitage; Mrs. John (Irene) Keating, San Bernadino, Calif.; and Mrs. Tony (Marie) Pinion, Warren, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Nicole M. and Tara L. Voyda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Joseph, Frank and George Voyda; and one sister, Julianne Voyda.

Sam 'Big Six' Ujakovich

WWII vet received Purple Heart, was business partner

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday (7-3-02) for Sam "Big Six" Ujakovich, 647 S. Fourth St., Sharpsville. He died at 9:10 p.m. Sunday (6-30-02) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after a brief illness. He was 80.

Mr. Ujakovich was born June 21, 1922, in Farrell to Samuel and Matilda Kantorcyck Ujakovich.

Mr. Ujakovich served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was attached to the 99th Infantry Division, 393 Infantry Regiment. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart.

After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Ujakovich worked for the former Ben Franklin Store in Farrell.

He later entered into partnership with Joseph Dockman, organizing the former Mercer County Notions Co. in Farrell. Mr. Ujakovich was self-employed at the store, from which he retired in 1987.

He was a member and past president of the Farrell Kiwanis Club. Mr. Ujakovich also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell; Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 705, Farrell; Farrell Booster Club; and the Italian Home, Farrell.

He belonged to Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell and its Bethany Club and Holy Name Society.

Mr. Ujakovich was a member of several local bocce leagues and also enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Angeline Bonadio, whom he married Sept. 3, 1949, in the former St. Anthony Italian Church in Farrell, with the late Monsignor Geno J. Monti as celebrant; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Roberta) Boyd, Washington, D.C.; and Kathleen Ujakovich, Falls Church, Va.; one grandson, Reid Boyd; and two granddaughters, Katie Boyd and Marie Dorsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Victor Ujakovich, Frank Ujakovich and Harold Ujakovich.

Dr. Dale Lee Williams

Korean War vet was Farrell hospital doctor, liked sailing

A memorial service will be held on Sunday (7-7-02) for Dr. Dale Lee Williams, 69 Oak Tree Court, West Middlesex. He passed away peacefully at 9:46 p.m. Sunday (6-30-02) in his residence following an extended illness. He was 75.

He was born March 12, 1927, in Akron, the son of Jesse and Olive Rinehart Williams.

Dr. Williams graduated from Ohio State University in June 1958 with a bachelor of science degree. He earned his doctorate at the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo.

He served in the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marine during the Korean War.

His family practice began in Corpus Christi, Texas. He later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he served on the staff at Doctors Hospital as a radiologist.

Dr. Williams was also on the staff of what is now UPMC Horizon, Farrell.

Doc had a love for sailing and golf. During his professional career, he was instrumental in the early design and development of cardiac catheters. His love of boating took him to many destinations. His boat, DO DOC II, was moored in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. He also enjoyed auto mechanics as a hobby.

He was a member of Oak Tree Country Club, Shenango Township.

We will miss him dearly.

Survivors include daughter Anita (Kenneth) Caldwell, Westlake, Ohio; and granddaughters Allyson Perry, Baltimore; and Katey Caldwell, Westlake; daughter Diana (John) Anderson, Rockford, Mich.; grandson Tucker; and granddaughter Madelaine; and daughter, Jeannette (Paul) McGarry, Eaton Rapids, Mich.; grandsons Luke and Kevin; and granddaughter Megan. He also leaves one brother, Jay Williams and his wife, Carolyn, and their son, Kyle, all Urichsville, Ohio; and a very special friend, Geri Danilov, Hermitage.
