Today's obituaries James Waide Davis Mercer native managed Agway stores in Pa. CENTREVILLE, Md. -- James Waide Davis, a longtime resident of Centreville, Md., formerly of Mercer, died at 5:54 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2002, in Memorial Hospital. He was 65. Born Dec. 5, 1936, in Mercer, Mr. Davis was a son of Samuel J. Davis of Mercer; and the late Mary Homer Davis. He graduated from Mercer High School in 1954 and in 1958 graduated from Pennsylvania State University in State College with a bachelor's of science degree in agriculture. Mr. Davis was the manager of Agway stores for 19 years in the Pennsylvania and Centreville areas. He then was the equipment sales manager for Beiler Equipment Co. Inc. in Massy, Md. for seven years; and later, for Kelley Equipment Co. Inc. in Galva, Ind. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Centreville, and the American Boxwood Society. In addition to his father, Mr. Davis is survived by: his wife, the former Ethelyn Lowe, whom he married in 1958; three children, Cynthia Davis McCann, Finksburg, Md.; Andrew J. Davis, Palmyra, Pa.; and Jennifer A. Davis, Austin, Texas; two brothers, John R. Davis, Conneaut Lake; and David C. Davis, Greenville; and five grandchildren, Blake Davis, Rosemary McCann, Wade Davis, James McCann and Chase Davis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Queen Anne's County Free Library in care of The Caleb Rodney, Louise Crouse Layton Library Fund for children's activities, 121 S. DAVIS Andrew Clayton Erish Aug. 24, 1933--June 10, 2002 MANHATTAN, N.Y. -- Andrew Clayton Erish, a Farrell native and longtime New York City resident, died on Monday, June 10, 2002, in Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan after a brief illness. He was 68. Mr. Erish was the only son of Lucy and Andy Erish of Farrell. He attended Farrell High School, then graduated from Anderson (Ind.) University in 1955. He continued his graduate studies at University of Illinois and at New York University. Following a distinguished broadcasting career in the Midwest, Mr. Erish joined American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in New York in 1966, first at WABC Radio, where he helped it become "Number One" in North America. He was then promoted to the ABC Radio Division as public relations/advertising director, and later, to the ABC television stations in a similar position. Mr. Erish became a private consultant in public relations in 1977. He joined Save the Children as a media communications and press relations officer in 1985, then moved to Catholic Charities of Brooklyn, where he was a director of public relations from 1989 to 1992. He was also associate professor of marketing and management at Pratt Institute's Graduate School from 1972 to 1995. Mr. Erish is survived by: his wife, Jean; sons, Andy, Jay and Richard; and a grandson, Joshua. Funeral services were held June 14 at Rockland Cemetery and a memorial service was offered on June 17 in Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York City. Friends may make contributions in his memory to the Farrell High School Alumni Association, Class of 1951.
Dorothy Jane DeMarco Former salesperson was member of St. Vitus Church Dorothy Jane DeMarco of The Overlook nursing home, New Wilmington, formerly of Oak Street, New Castle, died Tuesday morning (7-2-02) at St. Francis Hospital, New Castle. She was 86. Miss DeMarco was born June 27, 1916, in New Castle to Joseph DeMarco and Theresa Latronica DeMarco. A former salesperson for Neisners and W.T. Grant of New Castle, Miss DeMarco was a member of St. Vitus Church in New Castle. Surviving are: two brothers, James DeMarco, Youngstown; and Patsy DeMarco, Grove City; and one sister, Josephine Mancino, New Castle. Miss DeMarco was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Rose Pizzitola; and three brothers, Donald, Frank and Charles DeMarco.
DEMARCO Ezekiel Jordan Bolton Infant son of Michael and Elizabeth Gray Bolton WARREN, Ohio -- Ezekiel Jordan Bolton, infant son of Michael and Elizabeth Gray Bolton of 816½ Bryson St., Youngstown, both students at Youngstown State University, was stillborn at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in Trumbull Memorial Hospital. His parents attend Victory Assembly in Coitsville, Ohio. In addition to his parents, survivors include: his paternal grandparents, Rodney Bolton, California; and Mrs. John (Linda) Williams, Sharon; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Joyce Gray, Brookfield; his paternal great-grandmother, Judy Mandel, Sharon; and his maternal great-grandmother, Mary Yourchisin Gray, Farrell.
BOLTON Lc Joann Ferguson Hermitage woman was longtime member of church Lc Joann Ferguson of Hermitage, formerly of Sharon, died of natural causes at 1:09 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was 81. Born on Tuesday, March 8, 1921, in Mercer, Lc was a daughter of the late Frank J. and Magdalina Horvath Heimburger. She had worked as a waitress at various area restaurants including the former Paradise Inn in Hermitage, and the former Cherry's Top of the Mall and Sandalini's Restaurant, both Niles, Ohio. Lc was a member for more than 50 years of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon. She loved her children and their families very much. Lc is survived by: a daughter, Kim, wife of John Gump, Sharon; a son, Ralph T. Ferguson III, husband of Pamela, Hubbard; a son Frank J. Ferguson Sr., husband of Carita, Hermitage; a grandson, Ralph T. Ferguson IV; a granddaughter Kami L. Deegan; a granddaughter, Samantha J. McKendry; a grandson, William H. McKendry III; a grandson, Frank J. Ferguson Jr.; a great-grandson, Tyler J. Hodge; a great-grandson, Lawrence Andrew Deegan IV; a sister, Rose Bain, Jefferson Township; and a sister, Anne Krempasky, Sharpsville. Lc was preceded in death by her former husband, Ralph T. Ferguson Jr.; her sisters, Theresa Klingle, Katherine Wise and Madge Morris; and brothers, George and Tony Heimburger. FERGUSON Linda L. Fry Courtney Adamsville woman was active in Crossroads church, sang Linda L. Fry Courtney of 129 Lyons School Road, Adamsville, died of natural causes at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 62. Mrs. Courtney was born Aug. 4, 1939, in Greenville to Charles O. Fry and Mary Helen Hutchinson Fry. A clerk at Chase Dry Cleaning in Greenville, Mrs. Courtney owned and operated Linda's Salt Lick concession stand at Pymatuning Deer Park in Jamestown for seven years. She also worked at the former Blazon Toy Factory, Jamestown, and was a former custodian at Maysville Community Church. She was a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship, West Salem Township; a 1984 director of the Ralph Bell Crusade at Passavant Center; a three-year director of Living Witness Choir of eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania; Praise and Worship leader of the Mercer chapter of Women's Aglow; and sang for eight years with Harry Thompson Chalk Art, a traveling entertainment group. Active in many capacities of church work, she was also director of the Maysville Community Church Choir for 15 years; ran the vacation Bible school music program for 10 years; was a Sunday school teacher for the Senior High Class for seven years; and served as the praise and worship leader for 10 years for Crossroads Christian Fellowship. Surviving are: her husband, Ronald I. Courtney, whom she married on July 7, 1956, at home; three sons, Matthew I. Courtney, Adamsville; Mark A. Courtney, Houston, Texas; and Michael E. Courtney, Naperville, Ill.; a daughter, Melanie L. Nutkin of Champion, Ohio; six sisters, Margaret "Peg" McClead, Florida; Ethelyn "Becky" Murrin, Greenville; Alice "Louise" Ross, Florida; Mary Jane Scott, also Greenville; Nancy Baker, also Florida; and Wanda Riegleman, Jamestown; two brothers, Raymond H. Fry, Greenville; and Stanley E. Fry, Transfer; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carl, Charles and David Fry; and a sister, Barbara Reed. COURTNEY Rose Garofali Sharpsville woman was lifelong member of St. Bart's Rose Garofali, 2992 Tamarack Drive, South Pymatuning Township, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following an extended illness. She was 81. Mrs. Garofali was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Sharpsville to Joseph Bernard and Antonia Caracci Bernard. She was a graduate of Sharpsville High School. A homemaker, Mrs. Garofali was a lifelong member of St. Bartholomew's Church, Sharpsville. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, mysteries and crossword puzzles. Mrs. Garofali also loved spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are: her husband, Ettore Garofali, whom she married May 25, 1950, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Allan (Rosanne) Lucich, Sharpsville; two sons, Angelo and his wife Cindy Garofali, Masury; and Richard and his wife Carla Garofali, Sharpsville; a sister, Jenny Capozzoli, Hermitage; a brother, Rocco Bernard, Sharpsville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Victor Bernard; and a sister, Mary Leccisotti. GAROFALI Marie M. Brozovich Sharpsville homemaker was member of St. Joseph's Marie M. Brozovich of Mertz Towers, 53 S. Mercer Ave. in Sharpsville, and formerly of Watson Street in Sharon, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday (7-2-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following a lengthy illness. She was 84. Mrs. Brozovich was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Pittsburgh, a son of Louis and Rose Knauss Hirtzy. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon. Her husband, Anthony F. Brozovich, whom she married May 1, 1936, passed away Sept. 6, 1995. She leaves: a daughter, Judith A. Brozovich, Sharpsville; a son, Anthony J. Brozovich and his wife Beth, Sharon; a sister, Anna May Hirtzy; and a brother, Louis Hirtzy, both Pittsburgh. She also leaves: three grandsons, David A. Brozovich and his wife Michele; Daniel A. Brozovich and his wife, Mary Jane; and Barry A. Brozovich; and five great-grandchildren, Scott, Ryan, Mackenzi, Cassidy and Carry. Besides her husband, Mrs. Brozovich was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Schoeb and Rose Hirtzy. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
BROZOVICH Victoria M. Buglak Kanzic St. Adalbert Church member belonged to VFW auxiliary NEW CASTLE -- Victoria M. Buglak Kanzic, Jamison Care Center, New Castle, formerly of Farrell, died of natural causes at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in the nursing home. She was 80. Mrs. Kanzic was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Farrell to Anthony and Bertha Buglak. She was a homemaker and member of St. Adalbert Church, Farrell, and its Infant Jesus of Prague Society. Mrs. Kanzic was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell. She also was past president and member of the American Legion Preston H. Carroll Post 160, also Farrell. Her husband, John Kanzic, whom she married Jan. 27, 1940, died Feb. 7, 1974. Surviving are: two sons, John Kanzic, West Middlesex; and the Rev. Gerald B. Kanzic, Ringwood, N.J.; one daughter, Janice Ulikowski, wife of Robert, Newton, N.J.; one brother, Casimir Buglak, Hermitage; and one sister, Frances Budzowski, wife of Fredrick, New Castle; six grandchildren, Jason Ulikowski, Noel Johns, Edward Ulikowski, Patricia Parker, Lisa Taylor and Lori Brown; and five great-grandchildren, Brook Ulikowski, Taylor Ulikowski, Cole Ulikowski Alexis Parker and Noah Parker; four nephews and two nieces. KANZIC Gloria J. Shoener Former Sharon woman was Illinois volunteer AURORA, Ill. -- Gloria J. Shoener of Aurora, formerly of Sharon, passed away at 8:55 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, at her home after an extended illness. She was 59. She was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Sharon. Mrs. Shoener had been a resident of the Fox Valley, Ill., area for the past three years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Aurora, where she served as a lector and volunteered at the food bank. Mrs. Shoener also volunteered and served on the boards of several different hospitals. She was especially talented in the home arts. Mrs. Shoener is survived by her husband, George B. Shoener; one son, Brian Shoener, Ann Arbor, Mich.; one daughter, Kimberly Shoener, Indianapolis, Ind.; her mother, Jennie Getway, Sharpsville; and two sisters, Betty Getway, Sharon; and Mrs. Mark (Cheryl) Lewis, South Pymatuning Township. Mrs. Shoener was preceded in death by her father, Paul Getway. Memorials in Mrs. Shoener's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Ave., Sharon 16146.
SHOENER Ann Senkosky Former Sharon woman belonged to St. John's WARREN, Ohio -- Ann Senkosky of Robbins Avenue in Niles, Ohio, formerly of East Budd Street in Sharon, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Monday (7-1-02) in Gillette Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was 84. Mrs. Senkosky was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Andrico, Pa., a daughter of Stephen and Helen Pagan Branzovich. Mrs. Senkosky attended Farrell schools. A homemaker, she was a member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church in Sharon. Her husband, Matthew Senkosky, whom she married Jan. 24, 1939, passed away Nov. 13, 1989. She leaves: a daughter, Patricia Radich, Warren; one sister, Sophie Schaller, Canada; and one brother, George Branzovich, Sharpsville. She also leaves: one grandson, Nicholas Radich and his wife Connie; and one great-granddaughter, Harvest Radich, all Warren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Senkosky was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Karpinko; and six brothers, Charles, John, Peter, Stephen, Alex and Michael Branzovich. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Arthritis Foundation.
