Joan Louise Miller Bell Head Start classroom aide in GC participated in fairs Joan Louise Miller Bell, 111 Bell Road, Wolf Creek Township, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2002, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after becoming ill in May. She was 60. Mrs. Bell was born March 1, 1942, in New Castle to Clark Lester Miller and Hazel Cora Black Miller. She was a graduate of New Castle High School Class of 1960. Mrs. Bell was employed by Mercer County Head Start Program, where she was a classroom assistant at what is now Washington Kindergarten Center in Grove City. She previously worked in the bookkeeping department of First National Bank of Western Pennsylvania. She also raised calves for the family farm and showed baked goods, grain and vegetables at Mercer County Grange, as well as at Stoneboro and Jamestown fairs. Mrs. Bell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City. Surviving are: her husband, Lawrence S. Bell, whom she married May 6, 1972, at home; two sons, Jeffery L. Bell and his wife Jackie; and Jason S. Bell, all Grove City; a sister, Mrs. David E. (Gladys M.) Harlan, Princeton, Pa.; and one grandson, Jesse L. Bell. Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Kathleen Ellen Miller.
BELL E. Anita Mellon Kurtz Hospitals dietitian owned New Wilmington bakery E. Anita Mellon Kurtz, 73 Mercer Ave., Wheatland, formerly of New Wilmington, died at 11:43 a.m. Sunday, July 7, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a short illness. She was 86. Mrs. Kurtz was born Aug. 3, 1915, in Manor, Westmoreland County, to Howard Randolph Mellon and Lucy Florence Brinker Mellon. She graduated from Juniata College in Huntington, Pa. A dietitian, Mrs. Kurtz worked for what is now Sharon Regional Health System and also for what is now Jamison Health System in New Castle. She was also owner, with her husband, of Kurtz Bakery in New Wilmington. She was a member of Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex, where she served in the Ladies Aid Society. Her husband, Paul Vincent Kurtz, whom she married in 1949, preceded her in death July 5, 1988. A son, Howard Vincent Kurtz, survives in Alexandria, Va. Besides her husband, Mrs. Kurtz was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Curtis Mellon and Donald Mellon. KURTZ Gordon T. 'Cobb' Lewis Gordon T. "Cobb" Lewis, 304 S. 3rd St., Sharpsville, died of natural causes at 1:15 p.m. Sunday (7-7-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 71. Obituary information was incomplete.
LEWIS Kathryn M. Chmura Retired nurse lived, worked in Meadville, was born in GC MEADVILLE -- Kathryn M. Chmura, 17775 Rogers Ferry Road, Box 343, Meadville, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, in Meadville Medical Center. She was 85. Mrs. Chmura was born June 13, 1917, in Grove City to Patrick E. McGinty and Mary V. Schiestle McGinty. She was a graduate of the former Spencer Hospital School of Nursing in Meadville, Class of 1939. Following her graduation, Mrs. Chmura worked at the former Spencer Hospital, Meadville; the former San Rosara Nursing Home of Cambridge Springs; the fomer office of Dr. Joseph O'Connor, Meadville; and later retired from the former Flickinger Nursing Home, Meadville. She was a member of Spencer Hospital Alumni; the 55 Plus Club; and St. Brigid Church in Meadville. Her husband, John F. Chmura, whom she married June 15, 1944, died June 4, 1997. Mrs. Chmura is survived by: two daughters, Diane Johnson and her husband Lance; and Kathleen Chmura, all Meadville; a son, Michael F. Chmura, Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Brion Chmura, Kimberly Chmura and Melissa Chamberlain; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, George McGinty, Melbourne, Fla.; and W. Gene McGinty, Guilford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Ted Johnson; a sister, Dorothy Gregory; and three brothers, Donald P. McGinty, Regis McGinty and Francis McGinty. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St.; or Keystone Blind Association of Meadville, Masonic Building, Chestnut Street, both Meadville 16335.
CHMURA Anna Baggiossi Retired sales clerk in mall Sears was born in Italy Anna Baggiossi, 682 Cohassett Drive, Hermitage, died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, July 7, 2002, in York (Pa.) Hospital after an extended illness. She was 67. Mrs. Baggiossi was born Jan. 5, 1935, in Sulmona, Italy, to Emidio Sciarro and Nicoleta Agostinone Sciarro. She attended Sulmona area schools and owned and operated Anna's Beauty Salon of Hermitage from 1974 to 1983. Mrs. Baggiossi also worked for J.C. Penney's in Anaheim, Calif.; and for Sears department store at Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, both for which she was a sales clerk. She retired in 2000. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Church in Sharpsville. Mrs. Baggiossi also belonged to the Morning Breakfast Bowling League of Hermitage and enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing the organ and crocheting. Surviving are: her husband, Americus J. Baggiossi, whom she married Jan. 26, 1952, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Scot (Bonnie M.) Webster, Shrewsbury, Pa.; and Mrs. David (Tammy A.) Fritchey, Chesapeake, Va.; a son, Terry J. Baggiossi, Palm Springs, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Baggiossi, Sharpsville; a sister, Anuzetena DeLuca, Brea, Calif.; a brother, Pamfilo Sciarro, Beaver Falls; her grandchildren, Danyel Stone, Lauren Baggiossi, Rachel Borsa, Nick Borsa, Rocco Baggiossi, Austin Fritchey, Derrek Webster, Anastasia Fritchey and Cade Fritchey; and three great-grandchildren, Bobby Stone, J-Leah Samuels and Gabrielle Stone. Mrs. Baggiossi was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Rocco T. Baggiossi Jr.; and two brothers, Eledeo Sciarro and Rudolph Sciarro. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 59 N. Crescent Drive, Hermitage 16148.
