David A. Bair Retired Hermitage worker was officer for tractor pullers A funeral service will be held Friday for David A. Bair, 2383 Downing Lane, Hermitage. He passed away peacefully at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in his residence. He was 69. Mr. Bair was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Hermitage, a son of Fred Bair and Jean Bilby Bair. He attended Hermitage and Fredonia schools. Dave retired in 1994 as assistant supervisor at the Hermitage Water Pollution Plant. He had been employed nearly 30 years by the City of Hermitage. He was a member and past officer of the North West Truck and Tractor Pullers Association. Dave was well known for working in his garage on his Wheel Horse tractors and spending time with his family. His wife, the former Theresa "Terry" Short, whom he married Nov. 23, 1950, survives at home. Also surviving are: two sons, James K. Bair and his wife Judith; and Frank A. Bair and his wife Karen, all Hermitage; one brother, Ted Bair, Spokane, Wash.; one grandson, Justin Bair and his wife Lisa, Holly Hill, Fla.; and two great-granddaughters, Morgan and Paige Bair, both also Holly Hill. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Ken and Art Bair; and one sister, Ruth Fisher. BAIR Joseph Gotal Croatia native, '41 FHS grad was WWII vet, WE worker ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Joseph Gotal of 4013 Woodstock Road, Rocky Mount, formerly of Farrell, passed away about 1 a.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002, in LifeCare Hospitals of North Carolina. He was 79. Born in Ivonec, Croatia, Mr. Gotal immigrated in 1928 to Farrell with his parents, Isadore and Teresa Gotal. He was preceded in death by his parents. A graduate from Farrell High School in 1941, Joseph served as a corporal in the Army Air Force 1504 during World War II. He then earned a bachelor's degree in engineering in 1951 from Youngstown State University. Mr. Gotal dedicated 44 years to Westinghouse Corp. in the former Sharon Transformer Division and the Pinetops, N.C. LVIT (Linear Variable Inductive Transducer) Division. He retired in June 1988. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, in the chapel of Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, 2619 E. State St., Hermitage. Interment will follow in Hillcrest. Attending the memorial service will be: his wife of 52 years, the former Lois R. Farringer, with whom he lived in their home; a daughter, Jennifer Ilene Pillar and her husband Charles; and their sons, Daniel and Joel, all Fayetteville, N.Y.; a daughter, Ruth Ann Leggette, Greenville, N.C.; a son, John D. Gotal and his wife Barbara Jane; and their daughters, Teresa and Alina, all Framingham, Mass.; a daughter, Joann Mary Freitas and her husband Stephen; and their daughter, Elizabeth, North Easton, Mass.; and a daughter, Barbara G. Campagna and her husband Jay, Davenport, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Isabel Loch Johns Longtime member served in First Presbyterian in Sharon GORHAM, Maine -- Isabel Loch Johns, New Portland Road, Gorham, formerly of Sharon, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, in Gorham House nursing center. She was 88. Mrs. Johns was born May 29, 1914, in Sharon to John A. and Grace Urmson Loch. She was a lifelong resident of Sharon, having graduated from Sharon High School's Class of 1932. She attended Westminster College in New Wilmington. Mrs. Johns and her husband, Henry D. Johns, were married July 27, 1940, and lived at 379 Euclid Ave. in Sharon until Mr. John's death in 1991, when she moved to Maine. As a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Sharon, Mrs. Johns was a Sunday school teacher; past member and officer of the Women's Association; and financial secretary of the church for 15 years. Mrs. Johns was a life member and past officer of the Sharon General Hospital Auxiliary and an active participant in its volunteer service. She also was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels in Sharon for a number of years. Surviving are: three children, David Johns, Liberty Lake, Wash.; Elaine Nadzo, Portland, Maine; and Richard Johns, Plymouth, Minn.; and nine grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Johns was preceded in death by her parents. There will be no visitation hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Dr. Glenn M. Hink, senior pastor, officiating. Virginia Griffith Coffey Mercer U.M. member was longtime legal secretary Virginia Griffith Coffey, 260 S. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, formerly of Mercer, died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in Whispering Oaks, Hermitage, following a brief illness. She was 81. Mrs. Coffey was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Wheeling, W.Va., to Ralph P. Griffith and Grace Clark Griffith. She was a legal secretary for 35 years. As a member of Mercer United Methodist Church, Mrs. Coffey belonged to the church choir. She was also a former secretary of Brandy Springers Senior Citizens group; and Bethany Fan Club. Surviving are: her husband, William J. Coffey, whom she married June 4, 1960, at the residence; a daughter, Janice Cessna Scassa, Rochester, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Shirley E. Leech, Boulder, Colo.; and Patricia Coffey North, Oswego, N.Y.; two sons, Edward G. Cessna and his wife Barbara, Milwaukee, Wis.; and William C. Cessna and his wife Sue, Woodbridge, Va.; a brother, William A. Griffith, Sharon; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Coffey was preceded in death by her parents; and a stepson, William J. Coffey. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercer United Methodist Church, 250 E. Butler St., Mercer 16137. COFFEY Walter G. Murdock Ex-Sharon man had sisters in Sharpsville, Hermitage CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- Walter G. Murdock of Cherry Hill, formerly of Sharon, died at 4:28 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, in John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital. He was 74. Mr. Murdock was born April 1, 1928, in Farrell to Walter S. Murdock and Thelma Worstel Murdock. He was a 1946 graduate of Sharon High School and a 1952 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, with a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Murdock was also a 30-year employee of RCA Camden (N.J.), retiring in 1983. He was the dear brother of Leonard C. Murdock of South Boston, Va.; Delores J. Mihlo of Sharpsville; Marlyn E. Abbott of Hermitage; and the late Dell Rock of Struthers, Ohio. Mr. Murdock is also survived by a dear friend, Catherine M. Sweeney of Cherry Hill; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his sibling, Dell, he was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service and interment will be private at the convenience of family. Hugh M. O'Neill Hugh M. O'Neill, 2206 Downing Lane, Hermitage, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday (7-9-02) in his home. He was 84. Obituary information was incomplete. O'NEILL Mark A.
