Edward A. Hague
Findley township man was laborer, business owner

Edward A. Hague, 1008 Butler Pike, Findley Township, died unexpectedly at 8 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, in Beaver Township, Clarion County, after an apparent heart attack. He was 74.

Mr. Hague was born March 10, 1928, in Bradford Woods, Pa., to Arthur J. Hague and Isabelle Parker Hague.

A 1947 graduate of Perry High School in Pittsburgh, he was a salesman and safety director for Austins of Mars, Pa., and a salesman for Fleetwood Windows in Pittsburgh. He previously worked as a laborer for 20 years at Armco Steel in Ambridge, Pa.

Mr. Hague was a business owner throughout his lifetime of stores including Western Auto in Grove City, which he owned for seven years; and Colonial House Gift Shop, Neosho, Mo. He later worked until 1991 for College Height Christian School and Church in Joplin, Mo.

He was a carrier for the Allied News in Grove City for a number of years and served with the auxiliary police force in Franklin Township, Pittsburgh.

Mr. Hague was of the Lutheran faith. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce and belonged to Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 603, all Grove City. He also belonged to the E.C.H.O. radio club in Jackson Center and served as a past president.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Suzanne McGovern, whom he married May 22, 1987, at the residence; one daughter, Karen, wife of Millard "Tiny" Cooper, Belmont, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Michelle Zellmann, Mercer; and Elizabeth Orsillo, Grove City; two sons, Bruce Hague; and Gary Hague and his wife Laura, all Grove City; one stepson, Richard Orsillo and his wife Traci, St. Joseph, Mich.; one sister, Arla Mae, wife of William Lang, Cranberry Township, Butler County; one brother, Lewis Hague and his wife Harriet, Portersville; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Hague was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Isabelle Hague.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Edward A. Johnson, 7301 E. 16th St., Indianapolis, formerly of 263 E. Budd St., Sharon, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Thursday (7-11-02) in Wildwood Health Care Center. He was 87.

Mr. Johnson was born April 15, 1915, in Cheraw, S.C., to May Johnson and Carrie Little Johnson.

A 1934 alumnus of Sharon High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in social sciences, history and government from Livingston College in Salisbury, N.C., and later completed graduate studies at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in pursuit of a master's degree.

On Nov. 22, 1950, Mr. Johnson became executive director of the former Carver Community Center in Farrell, later known as F.H. Buhl Memorial Community Center.

He was a member of the Executive Committee and was elected president of the Shenango Valley Human Relations Council, and was reelected in May of 1967.

Mr. Johnson served as president of Sharon Kiwanis Club; was member of the board of directors for United Fund of the Shenango Valley area for nine years, serving on its budget committee and as co-chairman of public and private services for the 1966 drive; and belonged to the former Shenango Valley Community Chest, for which he was a four-year director. He was a former director for Salvation Army; and Mercer County Children's Aid Society Home.

He served on the advisory boards of the Shenango campus of Pennsylvania State University in Sharon; Mercer County Public Assistance; Sharon Kiwanis Club; and Shenango Valley Junior Achievement.

Mr. Johnson was a member and past president of Mercer County Health and Welfare Council; president of Mercer County Negro Republican Council; Mercer County Council of Health and Welfare Agencies; Shenango Valley Community Council; and the Executive Committee of Mercer County Branch of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

He served on the executive board of Northeast Section of National Recreation Center and was a treasurer of its Sharon board.

He was also a board member for several years and a four-year chairman of the Mercer County office of State Department of Public Welfare.

Mr. Johnson was a four-year chairman and 15-year active member of the former Selective Services Board 3, Shenango Valley.

He also belonged to Shenango Valley Planned Parenthood Association, serving as one of its organizers in the mid-1960s. He was also a member of the executive boards of Atlantic States of National Planned Parenthood, for which he was editor of its Atlantic Division publication; Mental Health Association of Mercer County; Mercer County Republican Executive Council; the former Pennsylvania Negro Republican Council; National Conference of Social Welfare; and National Recreation Association.

Mr. Johnson was vice-president of Tri-State Area of Community Centers and Settlement Houses, and in April of 1967, served as president of Tri-State Area of the National Federation of Settlement Houses, later serving as a vice-president.

He was an advisory board member of First National Bank of Mercer County and was a former co-chairman of Mercer County Citizens for Raymond P. Shafer during the candidate's 1966 election.

His contributions to adult education include leadership in Shenango Valley adult discussion groups; and he was involved in communities to improve blighted areas and slums, affiliated with Tri-State Area Association of Neighborhood Settlement Houses and Community Centers, for which he served as a treasurer and executive committee member.

As an appointee to Sharon School Board, Mr. Johnson was the first black to serve as school director in the City of Sharon. He later served a six-year term as a Republican candidate.

He was a member of Ruth African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Sharon, for which he was previously active as a trustee.

A recipient of numerous tributes during his lifetime, Mr. Johnson's more notable honors include Brotherhood Award of the Shenango Valley Human Relations Council, Feb. 26, 1966; Community Service Award, bestowed in August 1984 at the Annual Buhl Day Celebration; and was named in the 1950 edition of Who's Who in Colored America.

In the March 24, 1976, publication of The Herald, he was featured in an article for his service to the community.

Mr. Johnson enjoyed golfing and bowling.

His first wife, Evelyn N. Johnson, died in 1973. His second wife, Iris Johnson, is also deceased.

Surviving are: one sister, Lottie Lampkins, Indianapolis; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Besides his first and second wives, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Warren Edward Johnson, who died in 1963; a sister, Edna Dutton; and two brothers, James "Jess" Johnson and Samuel Johnson.

Loreto "Ray" DeJulia, 27 N. Third St., Sharpsville, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday (7-12-02) of a heart attack in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 68.

Calvin L. 'Buck' Louise

Cooper retiree belonged to Penn-Ohio Singers

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday for Calvin L. "Buck" Louise, 308 Oakland Ave., Grove City. He died at 6:02 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 65.

Mr. Louise was born Sept. 11, 1936, in Pittsburgh to James E. Louise and Rose Zurawsky Louise.

He was a graduate of the former Emlenton High School's class of 1954.

Mr. Louise retired in September 2000 from Cooper Energy Services Reciprocating Products in Grove City, where he worked as an expediter in the tool room for 37 years.

An Army veteran, he served from 1956 to 1958.

As a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City, Mr. Louise sang with the church choir for more than 35 years.

He also belonged to Knights of Columbus and Penn-Ohio Singers.

Mr. Louise was an avid golfer, gardener and walker. He loved his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Paula R. Ross, whom he married Aug. 2, 1958, at home; three children, Mrs. Regis (Michele) Zigo, Greenville; Mrs. Eric (Marya) McCool, Myersdale, Pa.; and Matthew M. Louise and his wife Denise, Grove City; two brothers, Ronald and Barry Louise, both Emlenton; and two grandchildren, Anthony Matthew Louise and Hunter John McCool.

Mr. Louise was preceded in death by his parents.

Violet Reinhardt
Hermitage woman was Sharpsville schools secretary

Violet Reinhardt, 319 Fairmont Drive, Hermitage, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 86.

Mrs. Reinhardt was born April 10, 1916, in Sharpsville to Fred Patton and Maude Ague Patton.

She was a secretary for Sharpsville Area School District for 17 years.

Her husband, Harrison F. Reinhardt, whom she married Nov. 22, 1969, died Dec. 6, 1990.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Joan) Montgomery, Sharpsville; two sons, Carl Penniman, South Pymatuning Township; and Hayden Penniman, Sharpsville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Chester (Dorene) Ward, Hermitage; and Mrs. David (Karen) Hines, Warren, Ohio; two stepsons, Gary Reinhardt, Dunkirk, Md.; and Jerry Reinhardt, New Castle; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Erla) DelFratte, Hermitage; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Reinhardt was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Madeline Nickel; and a brother, Edward Patton.

Marius W. 'Legs' Marrapese

St. Michael's Church member was art enthusiast

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday for Marius W. "Legs" Marrapese, 3431 Rocky Glen Road, West Fallowfield Township, Crawford County, formerly of Cleveland. He died at 2:45 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 88.

Mr. Marrapese was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Cleveland to Francis Marrapese and Theresa DeMatteo Marrapese.

He was a self-employed gas appliance manufacturers' representative in Cleveland for 25 years, retiring in 1975.

Mr. Marrapese was a member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville.

He was an avid art enthusiast, dealing with a variety of media, including scrimshaw, ceramics and watercolor painting. He owned his own art business, UneekDesinz in Cleveland, for 15 years.

Mr. Marrapese also enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Marguerite R. Sontag, whom he married July 25, 1942, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Marsha) Walker, Weston, Mass.; a son, Frank W. Marrapese and his wife Terrie, Adamsville; and four grandchildren, Shannon Lightbody and Justin Walker and Zack and Nick Marrapese.

Mr. Marrapese was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert Marrapese; and a sister, Linda Sciangula.
