Today's obituaries Selma M. Swanson Former Bessemer woman was active in church BESSEMER -- Selma M. Swanson, formerly of Bessemer, Lawrence County, died at 8 a.m. Sunday (7-14-02) in Indian Creek Nursing Center, New Castle. She was 83. Mrs. Swanson was born Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1918, in Bessemer, a daughter of Emil and Hilda Strom Swanson. She was employed as a laborer for the former Plakie Toys in Youngstown. Mrs. Swanson was a lifelong member of First Covenant Church in Bessemer, where she belonged to the choir and taught Sunday school. Mrs. Swanson married Milton Swanson on June 12, 1948. He preceded her in death. Surviving are: one daughter, Kirsten Swanson, Bessemer; one son, Ronald Swanson, New Castle; and two grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Esther Olson, Agnes Patten and Martha Peterson; and five brothers, Axel, Albert, Alfred, Warner and Paul Swanson. SWANSON Clara C. 'Nancy' Kroell Miller Ex-Sharpsville homemaker belonged to St. Joe's church Clara C. "Nancy" Kroell Miller, New Wilmington, formerly of 440 S. 8th St., Sharpsville, died at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, in The Overlook nursing home, New Wilmington, following an extended illness. She was 95. Mrs. Miller was born July 24, 1906, in Stoneboro to Joseph Kroell and Mary Steckler Kroell. She was a graduate of the former Stoneboro High School Class of 1924 and served on the school debate team. A homemaker, Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon. Her husband, David Earl Miller, whom she married March 17, 1925, preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1990. Surviving are: a son-in-law, Eugene Molaskey, New Wilmington; a granddaughter, Dr. Robin Molaskey Herrick, wife of Dr. Neilson Herrick, New Wilmington; a grandson, David Eugene Molaskey and his wife Vickie, Mesa, Ariz.; and two great-grandsons, Ryan and Brett Molaskey. Besides her husband, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Virginia Ruth Miller Molaskey; three brothers, William, Robert and Joseph Kroell; and two sisters, Mary Guyton and Eleanor Hosick. MILLER Clifford L. Bestwick Clifford L. Bestwick of 446 Fairview Road, Fredonia, died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday (7-14-02) at his home. He was 72. Obituary information was incomplete. BESTWICK Retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Carr Akins, Ga., native, decorated serviceman, had son here ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Carr departed this life Wednesday afternoon, July 10, 2002, in Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. He was 69. Mr. Carr was born July 5, 1933, a son of Dan and Sally May Carr, in Akins, Ga., where he grew up. He attended public schools in Akins and in Cincinnati. Mr. Carr served honorably until his retirement in 1979 from the Army. For his achievements, he was a recipient of numerous honors and awards. Following his retirement, he was employed until 1996 with the Dept. of the Army at Fort Belvoir, Va. He enjoyed painting stones, reading and jogging. Mr. Carr, better known as "Red," leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 27 years, Lillie, at home; his sister, Gladys; brothers, Eddie Carr and the Rev. Joe Carr; and a son, Daniel Carr and daughter-in-law, Lachelle Carr, Sharon. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Adrien, Salena and Daniel Carr. Mr. Carr was preceded in death by his parents. Calling hours were at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, with a funeral service at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, in Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va. The Rev. Frank R. Kelly Sr., pastor, officiated. Interment with full military honors will be held Friday, July 19, 2002, in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery. Shirley J. Covert Active Covenant Orthodox member was avid bowler Shirley J. Covert, 15 Oregon Road, Liberty Township, died unexpectedly at 10:17 a.m Sunday, July 14, 2002, in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 71. Mrs. Covert was born April 13, 1931, in Butler County to Raymond P. Cornelius Sr. and Jean M. Borell Cornelius. A graduate of Grove City High School Class of 1949, she was a custodian for more than 20 years for Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City. As a member of Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Grove City, Mrs. Covert was active in her church and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was an avid bowler and was secretary in her bowling league. Mrs. Covert was also a doll collector and enjoyed camping with her family. Surviving are: her husband, Orrin R. Covert, whom she married Oct. 31, 1952, at home; a daughter, Dianna L. Covert, Boardman, Ohio; three sons, Douglas A. Covert and his wife Jennifer, Grove City; Stephen R. Covert and his wife Cathy, Harrisville; and Kevin J. Covert and his wife Jennifer, also Grove City; a sister, Mary L. Moore, wife of Samuel Moore Sr., Grove City; two brothers, John E. Cornelius and his wife Ruthanna, Mercer; and William P. Cornelius, Grove City; and seven grandchildren. Poplar St., Grove City 16127. COVERT Clara Mae Truman LA hospital retiree formerly of Farrell had relatives here COLTON, Calif. -- Clara Mae Truman, 265 S. Lassen Ave., San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of Farrell, passed away at 11:56 a.m. PST Thursday, July 11, 2002, in Arrow Head Regional Hospital. She was 84. Mrs. Truman was born Nov. 8, 1917, in Macon, Ga., to Sidney Adams and Bertha Owens Adams. She attended Farrell schools and retired from St. Vincent's Hospital in Los Angeles. Mrs. Truman was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Fontana, Calif.; Rose Hill (Calif.) Advisory Committee; AARP, a retired person's organization; and Rose Hill Historical Committee. Surviving are; one daughter, Elsie M. Elerby, Sharon; three sons, David V. Truman, San Bernardino, with whom she lived; Joseph M. Truman, Los Angeles; and Sidney Adams, New York, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. William (Florzel) Hyatt, Farrell; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Mrs. Truman was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Emma Ledbetter, Mary Alli, Louise Seegers, Ruth McKinley and Wilda L. Jones; and a son, Anthony L. Truman. TRUMAN
Steve E. Klingle of 380 Robertson Road, Hermitage, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 86. Mr. Klingle was born June 9, 1916, in Farrell to the late Anthony M. and Theresa M. Heimburger Klingle. A 1934 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, he attended Penn State University's Shenango Campus and Youngstown State University. Mr. Klingle was employed as a pattern maker at the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp., Sharon, retiring in 1968 after 34 years. He also was employed at Sharon Pattern Works for 12 years until 1980. A member and past trustee of the German Home, Farrell, Mr. Klingle also enjoyed hunting. Survivors include: his wife, the former Hazel M. Kiser, whom he married March 2, 1940, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Rodney (Shirley) Everett, Cochranton; and Mrs. Earl (Bonita) Brown, Guys Mills; one son, Ronald Klingle and his wife Frances, Warren, Ohio; five grandchildren, Brett, Brian and Wendy Everett, Shari Hague and Lynnda Deane; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian and Bertha Klingle; and one infant great-granddaughter, Cassandra Everett. KLINGLE Loraine E. Weiland GC doctor's wife, active in clubs, was homemaker RALEIGH, N.C. -- Loraine E. Weiland, Oakleaf Village, Apartment 216, 615 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh, formerly of Grove City, died at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, in her residence. She was 79. Mrs. Weiland was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Chicago to Leroy Goldsmith Walton and Keturah May Thompson Walton. She was a 1943 cum laude graduate of Ursinus (Pa.) College, where she met her husband, Dr. Theodore Frederick Weiland, a former Grove City Hospital radiologist. Mrs. Weiland moved from Vineland, N.J., to Grove City in 1952, when her husband became chief radiologist at the hospital. She moved to Hermitage in 1996 after her husband retired and to Raleigh in November 1998. Mrs. Weiland was employed by Grove City Hospital Radiology Department from 1975 to 1977 and belonged to the Great Books Club; Shakespeare Club; and Grove City Library Volunteers. She also belonged to Members of the Audobon Society, for which she was an avid bird watcher, counting birds for the group. A homemaker, Mrs. Weiland was a member of Tower Presbyterian Church in Grove City. Dr. Weiland, whom she married Sept. 23, 1944, died April 28, 2001. Surviving are: two sons, Karl Weiland and his wife Karen, Lexington, Mass.; and Theodore F. Weiland and his wife Wanda, Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Anne Weiland) McCarl, Raleigh; and Mrs. Drew (Catherine) Tieman, Newburyport, Mass.; and seven grandchildren. White Farrell native lived in Vienna, worked for Halsey Taylor VIENNA -- Joseph A. White, 355 Bonnie Brae Road, Vienna, died at 10:52 a.m. July 13, 2002, in St. Joseph Hospital, Warren, Ohio, following a brief illness. He was 75. Mr. White was born Nov. 27, 1926, in Farrell to Frank and Viola Boyer White. He was employed by the former Halsey W. Taylor, Warren, Ohio, as a welder for 25 years, from 1951 through 1976; and at H.F. Everett Oil Co., Vienna, as a dispatcher from 1976 through 1988. Mr. White was a Protestant. He was a founding member of Vienna Athletic Club, active in Vienna Little League, enjoyed watching all sports on television and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. White bowled on the Halsey Taylor bowling team. He married Alice M. Zipay on June 28, 1952. She died Dec. 2, 1986. Surviving are: one son, Timothy J. White, Hilliard, Ohio; two daughters, Cheryl White Hill, Mineral Ridge; and Karen M. White, Vienna; one grandson, Mickey C. White; and four granddaughters, Regina M. White, Sandra White, Alica R. Hill and Sandy White. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Viola Bucy; and three sisters, Oseelie Ebling, Frances Masters and Lovinia White. WHITE Robert J. Crumbacher Sr. Former West Middlesex area man retired from Sawhill Robert J. Crumbacher Sr., New Wilmington, formerly of Longview Road, West Middlesex, died of natural causes at 6 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2002, in The Overlook nursing home, New Wilmington, after a one-year illness. He was 85. Mr. Crumbacher was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Greenford, Ohio, to John W. Crumbacher and Hattie Dressel Crumbacher. He retired after 35 years from the former Sawhill Inc. in Wheatland, where he was a painter. His first wife, the former Dee Moats; and his second wife, the former Anne Dunder, are deceased. Surviving are: a daughter, Roberta Sherman, Hermitage; three sons, Jack Crumbacher, Farrell; Robert Crumbacher Jr., West Middlesex; and William Crumbacher, New Wilmington; three sisters, Irene Goodman and Ruth McCoy, both Ohio; and Wiletta Sharisky, Hermitage; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Beside his first wife and his second wife, Mr. Crumbacher was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Crumbacher; two sisters, Pauline Everson and Dorothy Moser; and two brothers, Paul and Howard Crumbacher. CRUMBACHER Jack D. Coursen Cooper Energy retiree was active in Barkeyville church Jack D. Coursen of Barkeyville passed away at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2002, at UPMC Northwest, Oil City, after a brief illness. He was 67. Born Nov. 5, 1934, in Clintonville to Clinton F. and Carrie M. McFadden Coursen, he resided in Barkeyville his entire life. He married Norma L. Cross Coursen on Feb. 26, 1955, who survives. Mr. Coursen retired from the former Cooper Energy Services Reciprocating Products, Grove City, after 43of service in the storeroom as a clerk. He was an active member of Barkeyville Church of God. Mr. Coursen attended Barkeyville Elementary School and then the former Wesley High School for three years before graduating from Grove City High School. Mr. Coursen was a member of Franklin Moose Lodge 83, holding the offices of junior governor, secretary/treasurer and Moose Legion chaplain. He also was a social member of the American Legion and Franklin Vets and belonged to Shenango Valley Moose Legion 88, involving 13 counties. Mr. Coursen enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his family. Also surviving are: one son and his wife, Jay A. and Lori J. Coursen, Sandy Lake; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Richard L. (Molly) Coursen, Harrisville; one sister, Mrs. John (Helen J.) Hanna, Harrisville; and three brothers, William C. and his wife Della Coursen, Harrisville; Paul W. Coursen, Grove City; and Donald M. and his wife Jeanette Coursen, Miami. He also leaves: six grandchildren, Joseph L. Coursen, Mrs. Rick (Lucinda S.) Knox, Wendy L. Coursen, Shane A. Coursen, Brian C. Coursen and Pamela J. Coursen; one great-grandchild, Kylie R. Knox; several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. James D. Coursen, Harrisville. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard L. and Brian D. Coursen; two sisters, Lois Martha Sterner and Donna Louise Coursen; and two brothers, James D. and Richard E. Coursen.
