Today's obituaries Robert Thomas 'Big Dizz' Daniels Sharpsville man retired from United Service Co. A private memorial Mass will be held for Robert Thomas "Big Dizz" Daniels of 317 Canterbury Court, Sharpsville. He passed away peacefully at 7:55 p.m. Monday (7-22-02) in his residence surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was 76. Born Oct. 13, 1925, in Sharpsville, he was a son of the late Leslie G. and Mary A. Dufner Daniels. A graduate of Sharon High School, he was first employed by the former American Laundry in Sharon; and later by United Service Co., where he retired as a driver and salesman in 1987 after 37 years of service. Mr. Daniels was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage; and Teamsters Local 377. He enjoyed being outdoors as well as hunting, fishing and feeding wild animals in his backyard. He was an avid reader of mystery books and listening to music, particularly big band and jazz. Robert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include his wife, the former Eleanor A. Matthews, whom he married March 9, 1957; two daughters, Janine Daniels at home; and Mrs. David (Holly) Swogger, Sharpsville; three sons, John Mark Daniels and his wife, Connie; and Robert Timothy Daniels, all Sharpsville; and Dennis J. Daniels, Daytona Beach, Fla.; one sister, Mary A. Carroll, San Jose, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Erica, Joshua and Matthew Daniels and Laura and Megan Swogger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Daniels; and one sister, Ellen Daniels. Derugen '83 CP grad, retired Navy vet worked for Sawhill, Werner Funeral services will be Friday (7-26-02) for Kenneth S. Derugen, 59 Cedar St., Sharpsville, formerly of Sheakleyville. He died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was 37. He was born in Greenville on Aug. 8, 1964, a son of Mary Ellen (Gruver) Hoover and the late William C. Mowery. On May 2, 1990, he married Evelyn Balbin in the Philippines. The 1983 graduate of Commodore Perry High School was a U.S. Navy veteran originally stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He went on to serve three years in the Philippines, where he met and married his wife. During 1991-1992, he was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Whidbey Island, Wash., and served in the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. Following this, he retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 10 years to enjoy spending time with his family, returning to the Mercer County area where he was previously employed by what was Armco Sawhill Tube, Wheatland; and Werner Co., Sugar Grove Township. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He is survived by his wife; two children, Michael-Leroy B. Derugen and Menchie-Kim B. Derugen, both at home; his mother and stepfather, Mary and Chuck Hoover, Greenville; his stepfather, Sam Derugen of State College, Pa.; a sister, Monica West, Ellwood City; and two nieces, Nicole and Heather Peterson, both Ellwood City. He was preceded in death by his father.
DERUGEN Paul A. 'Sandy' Santuzzi Treasurer of Republic, LTV, WCI had fiance in Hermitage Paul A. "Sandy" Santuzzi, Bentwillow Drive, Niles, Ohio, died of aortic stenosis Tuesday (7-23-02) during a conference meeting at WCI in Warren, Ohio. He was 51. Mr. Santuzzi was born Jan. 4, 1951, in Cleveland to Paul A. and Mary McFadden Santuzzi. The 1969 graduate of Parma (Ohio) Padua High School graduated in 1973 from Ohio State University, Columbus, with a bachelor's degree in business administration. For the past 29 years, he was treasurer of Republic, LTV and WCI in Warren. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Niles; Leadership Council of Mahoning Valley; National Treasury Management Association; Niles Baseball Association; Warren Consolidated Industries Golf League; and Jess's Golf League, Hermitage. Mr. Santuzzi was an avid golfer. He was past treasurer and board member of United Way of Trumbull County and timekeeper for Warren (Ohio) John F. Kennedy High School basketball games. Surviving are: his mother, North Olmsted, Ohio; one son, Kenneth R. Santuzzi, Columbus; two daughters, Alecia M. Santuzzi, New Orleans; and Nicole R. Santuzzi, Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Marty (Lillian) Morisky, Brunswick, Ohio; Mrs. Tim (Mary) Moran, North Olmsted; and Mrs. Michael (Lucy) Blake, Cleveland; his fiance, Joyce Settle, Hermitage; and numerous nieces and nephews. His father preceded him in death.
SANTUZZI Margaret Friestad Margaret Friestad, 124 Woodrow Court, Sharon, died at 3 a.m. today (7-25-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 85. Obituary information was incomplete.
FRIESTAD Daniel B. Doolin Jr. Retired Sharon Steel foreman also had coal delivery service A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday (7-26-02) for Daniel B. Doolin Jr., 451 Yankee Ridge Road, Lackawannock Township. He passed away at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday (7-24-02) in the Skilled Care Unit of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. He was 91. Mr. Doolin was born Sept. 11, 1910, in West Middlesex, the son of Daniel B. Sr. and Rose Eyerdam Doolin. He graduated from Hickory High School, Hermitage, Class of 1929, and was a sandout in both football and basketball. Mr. Doolin retired in 1975 from the Farrell plant of the former Sharon Steel Corp., where he worked as a utilities foreman for 47 years. As a side business, Mr. Doolin operated a coal transportation service, delivering coal to homes throughout the area. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. His wife, the former Mabel Ryser, whom he married Feb. 15, 1936, passed away Aug. 29, 1972. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Jones and her husband, John, Fredonia; and two sons, John "Jack" Doolin, at home; and Robert J. Doolin and his wife, Kathleen M., Lackawannock Township. He also leaves two sisters, Mary Reno and her husband, Dealvey, Brookfield; and Sara Jones, Hermitage. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Brenda McClelland; and Rebecca, Rocky and Clint Doolin; and one great-granddaughter, Katie McClelland. He was preceded in death by his son, Fredrick R. DOOLIN Florence E. Gash Retired nurse's aide was Hour of Power member Funeral services will be Saturday (7-27-02) for Florence E. Gash, 8091 Davis St., Masury. She died at 9:30 Tuesday (7-23-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 78. Mrs. Gash was born Feb. 13, 1924, in East Palestine, Ohio, to Leroy and Lilly Edmonds McDonald. She retired in 1973 after working five years as a nurse's aide in what is now the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She also had been a cottage parent at George Junior Republic, Pine Township. Mrs. Gash was a member of Hour of Power Full Gospel Tabernacle, Farrell, where she was a deconess and belonged to the Levite Usher Board. She was very active in and maintained a good relationship with various churches in the valley. Mrs. Gash also was active in the local prayer band. Her husband, Robert A. Gash, whom she married Nov. 6, 1940, died April 27, 1982. Surviving are: one son, Robin Gash; and one daughter, Florence Ivey, both with whom she shared her home; one brother, Herbert McDonald, Masury; one sister, Rachel Fisher, Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and three brothers.

David Anthony Pollack Sharon High grad belonged to St. Bernadette's, liked golf David Anthony Pollack, 8154 Lorain St., Masury, died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday (7-24-02) in his residence of a heart ailment. He was 45. David was born in Sharon on Dec. 6, 1956, a son of Anthony P. and Irene Brickle Pollack. He was a graduate of Sharon High School and had been employed with his father at T.P. Pollack Contractors. David was a member of St. Bernadette Church, Masury. He was an avid woodworker and golfer with two holes-in-one to his credit. During his senior year in high school, David received a college scholarship to play baseball, but because of illness was unable to use it. At the time, he was considered to be one of the fastest pitchers in the tri-county area. He is survived by his mother, with whom he made his home; three sisters, Patricia Vendemia, Brookfield; Shirley Firnrohr, Walforth, Wis.; and Linda Violante, Van Nuys, Calif.; and a brother, Anthony D. "Chook" Pollack, Riverside, Calif. David was preceded in death by his father July 9, 1998.
POLLACK Forrest 'Woody' Mundis '73 Wilmington grad worked at Sharon Steel, liked to golf Forrest "Woody" Mundis, 4662 New Castle Road, New Wilmington, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (7-23-02) in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, after an extended illness. He was 46. Mr. Mundis was born Sept. 30, 1955, in Meadville to Raymond L. and Naomi Jean Conrad Mundis. The 1973 graduate of Wilmington High School, New Wilmington, worked at former Farrell plant of Sharon Steel in the lab of the basic oxygen furnace department. He loved hunting and the out-of-doors, was an avid golfer and enjoyed animals and liked to bowl. He had five cats. The Santelli family of Sharpsville and the Borowicz family of New Wilmington are family to him. Surviving are: his wife, the former Lynda Santelli, whom he married Oct. 2, 1982; one sister, Rae Jean Isaly, Meadville; and his father, Waynesboro, Pa. He was preceded in death by his mother and niece, Billie Jean Fabian. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 610 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, Md. 20852.

Elwood D. Weyant Retired Cooper Jarrett trailer mechanic lived in Hermitage A funeral service will be Saturday (7-27-02) for Elwood D. Weyant of 3595 Pleasant Drive, Hermitage, formerly of Somerset County, Pa. He passed away unexpectedly at 2:46 a.m. Wednesday (7-24-02) in his residence. He was 78. Mr. Weyant, who was affectionately known as "Woody," was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Black Township, Somerset County, the son of Earnest and Pearl Seckler Weyant Sr. He was employed for 20 years by Cooper Jarrett Trucking Co. in West Middlesex, where he was a trailer mechanic until his retirement. He later worked for Aims Leasing in Youngstown. He was a member of Mount Tabor Lutheran Church in Garrett, Pa. His wife, the former Ruth Burkholder, whom he married Jan. 1, 1948, survives at home. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Jay (Joy L.) Deem, Berlin, Pa.; Mrs. John (Ruthann D.) Bailey, Greenville; two sons, Samuel E. Weyant, Farrell; and Timothy A. Weyant and his wife, Cheryl, Mercer; three sisters, Mrs. Gene (Pauline) Blubaugh and Faith DeVoe, both Berlin; and Mrs. Lorin (Judy) Clements, Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Floyd Weyant and his wife, Eva, Meyersdale, Pa.; and Roger Weyant and his wife, Nancy, Berlin; five grandchildren, Laura Maust, Jonathan Bailey, Tara Weyant, Samantha Weyant and Heidi Weyant; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Maust and Nicholas Rainey; two stepgrandchildren, Michelle Blubaugh and Teresa Black; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Mitchell and Miranda Black and Bethany Blubaugh.
