George R. Popa Hubbard plant retiree served Sharon church, was Marine George R. Popa, Masury, died Monday evening (8-5-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 79. Mr. Popa was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Hubbard, a son of John and Lillian Wells Popa. He was a lifelong area resident and worked for Powell Pressed Steel in Hubbard for 42 years before retiring in 1982 as a foreman. Mr. Popa was a member of St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sharon, where he was a Sunday school teacher and pirogi worker. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the First Marine Division Association and the Romanian Veterans Association. Mr. Popa's family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening and doing yard work. He leaves: his wife, the former Catherine Sitch, whom he married June 7, 1947; a son, Robert C. Popa, Masury; a daughter, Mrs. David (Donna J.) Ferrara, Masury; two brothers, Albert Popa, Masury; and the Rev. William Popa, Wadsworth, Ohio; two sisters, Sally Shaffer, Charlotte, N.C.; and Lillian Begeot, Hubbard; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. His parents; a brother, John Popa; and a sister, Mary Jane Popa, are deceased. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 375 Clark St., Sharon 16146.
POPA Beulah Hall Wheatland woman was PTA officer, Red Cross volunteer Beulah Hall, a lifelong resident of Wheatland, has died at the age of 94. She was born in McDonald, Pa., the only child of Lincoln L. Jefferson and Hilda Elizabeth Jefferson. She had been a resident of Wheatland since early childhood, especially enjoying her elementary school years at Number Nine School. The family moved to Wheatland after the death of her father. She attended Waynesburg (Pa.) College along with her cousin, Attorney George G. Jefferson of Washington, D.C. Later in her life, Mrs. Hall continued her education, studying Mortuary Science at Echols College in Philadelphia and completed her apprenticeship in Mortuary Science at Harold B. Mulligan Funeral Home, Philadelphia. She loved the rural community in which she lived and spent many joyous hours attending her flower garden and spacious yard. After the death of her husband, Dr. Clyde W. Hall of Youngstown, she devoted all of her time and interest to her children, Peter Hall and Carol Hall Patrick. She was a most beloved mother. During the time her children attended high school, Mrs. Hall served as president of the Farrell High School Parent Teachers Association and was a longtime dedicated volunteer for the Mercer County unit of the American Red Cross. Her remains have been cremated. A memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date. Paul T. Gallagher Retired laborer had family in Fredonia, Hubbard YOUNGSTOWN -- Paul T. Gallagher, 3804 Pothour Wheeler Road, Hubbard, died Tuesday morning (8-6-02) in Forum Health Northside Medical Center. He was 74. Mr. Gallagher was born July 7, 1928, in Sharpsburg, Pa., a son of Albert V. and Jeanette Miller Gallagher. He came to this area in 1971. Mr. Gallagher worked for United Engineering of Pittsburgh as a machinist for 24 years and later for four years at Wean Industries of Youngstown, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the former St. John's Church of Christ of Sharpsburg. Mr. Gallagher leaves: his wife, the former Myrna Pettitt Jones, whom he married Sept. 20, 1975; five sons, Arthur Gallagher, Texas; Paul T. Gallagher Jr. and his wife Leah, LaPort City, Iowa; Carl Gallagher and his wife Ann, Lockhart, Texas; Jack Gallagher, Pittsburgh; and Robert Gallagher, Red Bank, N.J.; and a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Paula) Osborne, Fredonia. Also surviving are: three stepdaughters, Mrs. Bob (Nancy) Gaut and Mrs. Albert (Wendy) Alexander, both Hubbard; and Mrs. Bill (Kathy) Clark, Ashland, Ohio; a brother, Albert C. Gallagher, Library Park, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His parents; and a sister, Edith Zimmerman, are deceased. GALLAGHER Julia Pullam Sharon church member was retired SRHS nurse Julia Pullam, 84 Pullam Drive, Shenango Township, died unexpectedly at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in her residence. She was 74. Mrs. Pullam was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Sharon to John and Christina Major Mogar. She retired in 1990 after 38 years as a pediatric nurse for Sharon Regional Health System. Mrs. Pullam was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Sharon. She was an avid woodcarver and did needlework. Mrs. Pullam was known for her singing voice. Surviving are: her husband, C. Clyde Pullam, whom she married Jan. 24, 1953; four sisters, Elizabeth Mogar, Ema Pullam, Ida Jancso, and Margaret, wife of Martin Jancso; and one brother, John Mogar, all West Middlesex. She was preceded in death by one brother, Coleman Mogar; and one sister, Helen Reiber. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 710 Carnegie Ave., Sharon 16146.
PULLAM Shirley Ann Simmons Dickson Shirley Ann Simmons Dickson, 174 Stoneboro Road, Wolf Creek Township, died at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday (8-6-02) while working in Pew Fine Arts Center of Grove City College. She was 55. Obituary information was incomplete.
