Mary L. Kurtz Brookfield woman was clerk at Valley View Mary L. Kurtz of 458 Golf Drive, Brookfield, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday (8-19-02) in her home. She was 84. Mrs. Kurtz was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Mohawk, Pa., a daughter of John and Josephine Super Pasacic. She was a clerk for more than 17 years at the former Valley View Department Store in Brookfield and was a member of St. Bernadette's Church in Masury. Mary's pastimes included walking with friends and family; flowers; watching Cleveland and Pittsburgh sports teams, as well as Ohio State University and Kentucky sports teams; and watching golf. She recently traveled to Las Vegas by car with her family and had the opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon among many other tourist sights. Mary should be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, whose grit, determination and common sense are worthy of emulation. Her husband, Frank A. Kurtz, to whom she was married for 34 years, died on July 6, 1972. Survivors include: two sons, Frank B. Kurtz and his wife Nancy, Columbus, Ohio; and Ronald J. Kurtz and his wife Janis, Louisville, Ky.; one brother, John Pasacic, Brookfield; one sister, Veronica Kurtz, Masury; five grandchildren, Frank B. Kurtz Jr., Kristin A. Retherford, Kevin M. Kurtz, Lisa M. Scheller and Bradley Kurtz; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Sydney; and one stepgrandson, Bill Harris and his family. Besides her husband, Mrs. Kurtz was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Roy Pasacic; and three sisters, Ann Krukar, Sally Nakich and Kay Brenaman. KURTZ Irene 'Renee' Heintz Irene "Renee" Heintz, Stone Ridge Boulevard, Hermitage, died at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday (8-20-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. She was 83. Obituary information was incomplete.
HEINTZ Willa Mae Phillips Mercer County native was married for 66 years MIDWEST CITY, Okla. -- A funeral service will be held Saturday for Willa Mae Phillips, 11308 Meadow Ridge Lane, Jones, Okla., formerly of Mercer County. She passed away at 2:40 a.m. Monday (8-19-02) in Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She was 83. Mrs. Phillips was born March 11, 1919, in Long Branch, N.J., to James Bowles and Blanche Brightful Bowles. A homemaker, she was a member of Church of God of Prophecy in Jones. Surviving are: her husband of 66 years, David Calvin Phillips Jr., whom she married on Feb. 13, 1936, at home in Jones; two daughters, Mary Martha Phillips, Pittsburgh; and Irene Elizabeth Phillips, Jones; one son, David Calvin Phillips, III, Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Henry K. Phillips.
PHILLIPS Bertha 'Bertie' M. Wagner Farrell native was active in Holy Trinity Lutheran YOUNGSTOWN -- Bertha "Bertie" M. Wagner, Poland, Ohio, formerly of Hubbard, died Monday evening, Aug. 19, 2002, in Northside Medical Center. She was 75. Mrs. Wagner was born May 26, 1927, in Farrell, a daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Zurawsky. She lived in Hubbard from 1966 until 1997 when she moved to Poland. Mrs. Wagner was a secretary for 15 years for Delphi Packard Electric Systems. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hermitage, where she belonged to the church choir, the Dorcas Club and was a Sunday school teacher. Her husband, Paul C. Wagner, whom she married on April 16, 1966, died May 26, 1994. She leaves: a son, Richard Wagner and his wife Susan, Hubbard; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Linda "Lynn") Dailey, Boardman, Ohio; a sister, Katherine Redmond, Farrell; three grandchildren, Keith Wagner, Stephani Wagner and Josh Dailey. Her parents; three brothers, Frank, Michael and George Zurawsky; and a sister, Elizabeth Crisan are deceased. WAGNER Rosalia Richter Hermitage homemaker was born in Yugoslavia Rosalia Richter, 345 Donald Road, Hermitage, died at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, in her residence. She was 90. Mrs. Richter was born Nov. 27, 1911, in Krndija, Yugoslavia, to Martin Feldi and Maria Reis Feldi. A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, gardening and being with her family. Mrs. Richter was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Sharon. Her husband, Karl Richter, whom she married on Oct. 27, 1927, died Jan. 23, 1991. Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Jakob (Elizabeth) Wagner and Mrs. John (Agnes) Rumelfanger, both Hermitage; and Mrs. Ludwig (Rose) Reiter, Mansfield, Ohio; one son, John Richter, Long Island, N.Y.; one sister, Katharine Gruber, Austria; one brother, Ignatz Feldi, Congress, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Richter was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Magdalena Fersch and Marie Lamper; and one brother, Anton Feldi. RICHTER Bella Margaret Garts Mercer area woman was active in granges, church Bella Margaret Garts, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of the Greenville area, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday (8-19-02) in her home after a lengthy illness. She was 97. Mrs. Garts was born July 30, 1905, near Jackson Center in Jackson Township to James A. Leipheimer and Hannah Margaret Rummell Leipheimer. She graduated from Mercer High School and was employed as a telephone operator in Mercer until her marriage. She loved to sew, crochet and quilt. She loved gardening and always had many beautiful flowers. She took an active leadership in her community, including West Salem and Jackson Grange associations. As a member of Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ in Greenville, she was a Sunday school teacher for many years; sang in the church choir; and was active serving as a president for a period of time in the women's association of the church. She married Philip Graydon Garts on Sept. 1, 1923, who preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1988. Surviving is a daughter, Elsie, wife of John Raymond Bell, Mercer. There are five surviving grandchildren. They are Philip Bell and his wife Khung, Mercer; Linda Dovey and her husband Greg, Harrisburg; David Bell, Mercer; Barbara Bell, also Mercer; one nephew, Lester Eugene Leipheimer, Hermitage; six great-grandchildren, Albert Bell, Utah; Cindy Danish, Altoona, Pa.; Janet Bell, Farrell; Christopher Dovey, Harrisburg; Craig Baugh, Hershey, Pa.; and Lisa Baugh, Philadelphia; and five great-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jaylan and Jackie Chambers, all Farrell; and Alexis and Cody Bell, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Paul E. Garts and his wife Virginia; an adopted daughter, Claribelle Kimes; one niece, Betty Ladig; one nephew, Bobby Carroll; four sisters, Elsie Carlson, Grace Carroll, Laura Huff and Alice Smith; and two brothers, Frank Leipheimer and Albert Leipheimer. GARTS Vienness Chancy Bidwell Sr. Sharon native, Warren resident had been optician WARREN, Ohio -- Vienness Chancy Bidwell Sr. of Howland-Wilson Road NE, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren. He was 87. Mr. Bidwell was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Sharon, a son of Chauncy Vienness and Pearl Ann Reed Bidwell. He lived in Warren for 54 years. He attended Sharon schools and graduated from Sharon High School in June of 1936. In 1936, he married Anna Marie Donovan of Sharon, daughter of Patrick L. Donovan and Anna Driscoll. Mr. Bidwell owned and operated Bidwell Optical Co. (the Eyes and Ears of Warren) for 42 years. After graduating from the School of Optics in Harrisburg, he worked as an optician, associated with Dr. Randallof Sharon; Rooney Optical Co., Youngstown; and Strong-Kennard and City Optical Co., Cleveland. During World War II, Mr. Bidwell was associated with Jack & Heintz, where he was in charge of the optical department. While there, he was credited with having one of the most successful safety glass programs in the country. He was associated with Free and Accepted Masons Newburgh Lodge 379 while in Cleveland, and was a former member of a Masons Lodge in Youngstown (1951 Dillon Crest Class). He later went into business for himself, opening the V.C. Bidwell Optical Dispensary Co. he moved to Warren in 1948 where he opened Bidwell Optical Co. on East Market Street, later moving to Park Avenue. After 42 years in Warren, he retired from the optical business in 1990. Mr. Bidwell is also credited with starting Economy Well Drillers, which is operated by his grandson, Vienness C. Bidwell III. He was a member of Howland Community Church. He is survived by: his daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Patricia Bidwell) Bellay, Vienna, Va.; his son, William E. Bidwell, Vienna, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Marie Donovan Bidwell, who died in January of 2000; his son, Vienness C. Bidwell Jr., who died in April of this year; and his sister, Dorothy Phillips.
