Wilson H. Himes MEADVILLE -- Wilson H. Himes, Meadville, formerly of Kane and Clintonville, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, in Wesbury Nursing Home. He was 88. Born in Cool Spring, Pa., Mr. Himes was a son of Michael and Laura Stahlman Himes. He was married to Florence B. Neiger-Himes on May 30, 1934. She passed away Jan. 16, 1993. Mr. Himes lived in Kane for 45 years and in Clintonville for 16 years. He had a variety of occupations in his lifetime. He was a salesman for Miles Kane Co. and with his wife, Florence, managed the restaurant at the Stackpole Carbon Co. under the direction of the blind association. Mr. Himes was affiliated with the Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kane, where he was a very active member. He was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir. Mr. Himes received an award in 1990 for recognition as "Client of the Year" by the Venango County Coordinated Services. He also played the guitar, harmonica and drums in the Golden Tones Rhythm Band at the Scrubgrass Senior Center, Lisbon, Pa. He touched many lives, leaving an impression of a remarkable human being, a constant inspiration to others not to give up. He accepted challenges, and as evidence of his faith in God, turned adversity into stepping stones and new friendships. He is survived by: a son, Wilson S. Himes and his wife Anne, Azle, Texas; twin daughters, Cynthia J. Hodges, Hermitage; and Sylvia Glans and her husband Archie, Cochranton; three sisters, Emma Burkett and Selah Parks, both Punxsutawney, Pa.; and Lizzie Cressley, Tarentum, Pa.; and four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Himes, Harry Himes and Walter Clair Himes; and three sisters, Lula Byerly, Anna Smith and Hazel Young. HIMES Robert J. Boger '97 Reynolds grad was Americorp volunteer DENVER -- A funeral service will be held Friday for Robert J. Boger, Denver, formerly of 815 River Road, Delaware Township. He died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, in Bull Lake in Wind River, Wyo., following a drowning accident. He was 23. Mr. Boger was born Nov. 29, 1978, in Greenville to Ralph C. Boger Jr. and Sybilla Burton Boger. He was a 1997 graduate of Reynolds High School, where he was involved in wrestling and track. Robert attended the State College campus and the Shenango Valley campus, Sharon, of Pennsylvania State University, during which time he was employed by Lowe's in Hermitage and Lowe's in State College. He was of the Protestant faith. At the time of his death, Robert was a volunteer for Americorp of Denver. He enjoyed music, walks in the woods, canoeing and his Boston terrier, Katie. Surviving are: his parents, Greenville; his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Burton; his paternal grandmother, Belle Boger, both Greenville; and his brother, Ralph C. Boger III, State College. Robert was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ralph C. Boger Sr.; his maternal grandfather, Clarence Burton; and one uncle, William J. Burton. BOGER M. Jean Kooser Hermitage homemaker won awards as Avon rep M. Jean Kooser, a resident since 1971 of Hann Hill Road, Hermitage, and formerly of Somerset, Pa., died of natural causes at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, in her residence after an extended illness. She was 76. Mrs. Kooser was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Altoona, Pa., to Joseph M. Keifer and Daisy Fletcher Keifer. She was a 1943 graduate of Alexandria (Va.) High School. As a homemaker, in her younger years Mrs. Kooser enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and volunteering with the Girl Scouts of America. She also belonged to a card club. For 15 years, she was an Avon representative, since October 1987. While working for Avon Inc., Mrs. Kooser was a member of the President's Club and received the "Mrs. Albee Award" 15 times for outstanding work and excellence in sales, service and leadership. Her husband, Virl J. Kooser, whom she married July 7, 1951, died Oct. 19, 1990. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. William (Diane) Gold, Warren, Ohio; and Mrs. James (Debra) Carlson, Kennerdell; a son, John Kooser and his wife Linda, Sharpsville; a brother, Robert E. Williams, Fredericksburg, Va.; and six grandchildren, Lisa Conklin, Jackie Cowels, Jody Renslow, Scott O'Brien, Melissa Spangler and Megan Kooser. Besides her husband, Mrs. Kooser was preceded in death by her parents. KOOSER Tammy K. Myers '80 Reynolds grad was sales rep at Wal-Mart Tammy K. Myers, 45 Hughey Road, Otter Creek Township, died Monday evening, Aug. 26, 2002, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on state Route 358 in Otter Creek Township. She was 40. Mrs. Myers was born Aug. 26, 1962, in Buffalo, N.Y, to Gayle Goodell. A 1980 graduate of Reynolds High School, she was a sales associate for two years at Wal-Mart in Hempfield Township. Mrs. Myers enjoyed NASCAR and local dirt-track racing. She also enjoyed fishing with her children. Surviving are: her husband, Todd A. Myers, whom she married Dec. 2, 1989, Greenville; a daughter, Ashlee M. Lumley, Hadley; a son, Kyle A. Myers, at home; and her mother, Gayle McGrath; and a stepsister, Paulette Wagner, both Greenville. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Paul McGrath; and two infant twin daughters, Andrea and Amy Lumley. MYERS Stephen Ligette Jr. Retired WE computer analyst was Elks officer A funeral service will be held Friday for Stephen Ligette Jr., 1515 N. Keel Ridge Road, Hermitage. He died at 12:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 78. Mr. Ligette was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Munhall to Stephen Ligette Sr. and Elizabeth Black Ligette. A 1941 alumnus of Sharon High School, he graduated in 1950 from Westminster College in New Wilmington. Mr. Ligette retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. as a computer analyst with 35 years of service. He was a past exalted ruler in 1970 and an active member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103 in Sharon. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Ligette served during World War II in the 253rd Armored Battalion in the European theater of operations. He was active with Westinghouse Retirees and was an avid golfer, playing in various leagues throughout the area, but especially with Westinghouse Retirees and their various leagues. Mr. Ligette was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, both Hermitage. He was also active in the Meals-on-Wheels Program in the Shenango Valley and was a former Junior Oddfellow in the Sharon unit. Surviving are: his wife, Thelma Gilliss Ligette, formerly of Warren, Ohio, whom he married Sept. 8, 1951, at home; one daughter, Nancy L. Ligette, Pittsburgh; and one son, John S. Ligette, Charlotte, N.C. Mr. Ligette was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Stewart. LIGETTE Betty W. McCarty Homemaker grew up in Ala., lived in Hermitage Betty W. McCarty, a resident of Nugent Convalescent Home in Hermitage, and formerly of 705 Patricia Ave. in Hermitage, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a long illness. She was 67. Born Feb. 3, 1935, in Loretto, Tenn., Mrs. McCarty was a daughter of Sarah Louise Morrison Wiley of Lexington, Ala.; and the late William Alfred Wiley. A graduate of Lexington High School, she was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, playing bingo and flower gardening. She was of the Protestant faith and attended the Church of God. Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Christian (Charlotte "Charlie") Takash, Hermitage; two sons, Michael McCarty and his wife Melinda, Memphis, Tenn.; and Christopher McCarty, New Castle; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Richardson and Mrs. Gary (Jeanette) Lindsey, both Florence, Ala.; two brothers, Johnny Wiley; and Carmen Wiley and his wife Sandy, all Lexington; and four grandchildren, Michelle, Daniel, Richard and Steven. In addition to her father, Betty was preceded in death by one infant son; two infant daughters; and two brothers.
McCARTY George Zager FHS grad of Hermitage worked at Castings plant George Zager of 60 S. Oakdale Ave., Hermitage, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in Clepper Manor, Sharon, following an extended illness. He was 75. Mr. Zager was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Farrell, a son of the late Jorge and Julianna Slamay Zager. He graduated from Farrell High School and served in the Korean conflict. He worked for 19 years as a pattern maker for the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp. in Sharon. He was a member of the former Grace Lutheran Church in Farrell. Mr. Zager was also a member of the Mahoning Valley Button Box Club; Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage; and American Carpatho-Russian Citizens and Social Club, Sharon. Surviving are: his wife, the former Mildred R. Pugliese, whom he married Jan. 27, 1973; one daughter, Merilee Zager and her companion, Michael Olsen, Ashtabula, Ohio; one son, George Dean Zager, Wheatland; three sisters, Mary Billioni, Hermitage; and Ann Zager and Katherine Zager, both Farrell; and four grandchildren, Seth, Jacob, Shelly and Kyle Zager. Thelma Agnes Bolt Ex-Kent State secretary had son in Grove City Thelma Agnes Bolt, Grove Manor, Grove City, died on Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in Grove Manor. She was 89. Mrs. Bolt was born March 1, 1913, in Cass City, Mich., to Lloyd and Agnes Gardner Yakes. She graduated from a community college in Michigan and was secretary in the English Department of Kent (Ohio) State University. Mrs. Bolt was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal in Hayesville, N.C. Her first husband, Albert Dayton; her second husband, Joseph Bryan; and her third husband, Claus "Ben" Bolt, are deceased. She is survived by: two sons, David Dayton, Grove City; and John Dayton, New Jersey; two daughters, Carol Coffman, Ohio; and Judy Bracken, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Gardner; and a sister, Phyllis Herman.
BOLT Eleanor Brennan Harrison Former nurse had lived in Mercer Eleanor Brennan Harrison, 339 E. Jamestown Road, West Salem Township, formerly of 246 S. Erie St., Mercer, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, after an extended illness. She was 95. Mrs. Harrison was born Sept. 12, 1906, in Stoneboro to Thomas W. Brennan and Mary Harrison Brennan. An alumna of the former Stoneboro High School and St. Vincent Charity Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, she was a registered nurse at the former Bashline Hospital in Grove City. Mrs. Harrison previously worked as a registered nurse for 20 years at the former Mercer Cottage Hospital. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Mercer. Her husband, Rolland M. Harrison, whom she married July 24, 1926, died Aug. 12, 1997. Surviving are: two sons, Thomas W. Harrison and his wife Helen, Hermitage; and John R. Harrison and his wife Marceedes, Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Mrs. James (Kathleen "Hun") Wyatt, Ellicott City, Md.; one sister-in-law, Mary Brennan, Hermitage; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert B. Harrison; an infant son; a sister, Winifred Sullivan; and a brother, William T. Brennan.
HARRISON Mary M. (Geiwitz) (Myers) Carey Homemaker formerly lived in Stoneboro Mary M. (Geiwitz) (Myers) Carey of 339 E. Jamestown Road, Greenville, formerly of Fairground Road, Stoneboro, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. She as 94. She was born May 27, 1908, in Yugoslavia to Joe and Magdalena Tencinger Bogner. She came to America when she was 4 years old. She worked in food service for Lakeview School District. She was a homemaker and loved to work in her garden. She was a member of Stoneboro Presbyterian Church and of Princess Rebekah Lodge 442 of Sandy Lake. Her first husband, William F. Geiwitz, preceded her in death. She married John C. Myers on March 28, 1936. He preceded her in death July 2, 1962. She then married Paul T. Carey on Nov. 29, 1968. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1974. She is survived by: two sons, William F. Geiwitz III and his wife, Betty, Paso Robles, Calif.; and James J. Myers and his wife Sue, Stoneboro; one sister, Ann Sarvas, Sharon; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Besides her three husbands, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary M. Geiwitz; two granddaughters, Mary Geiwitz and Lisa Marie Myers; and five brothers and two sisters.
