Edith Johnston McIntyre
Active church member belonged to groups
A funeral service will be held Tuesday for Edith Johnston McIntyre, 800 Linden St., Sharon, formerly of 49 Seventh St., Sharpsville. She died at 10:06 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. She was 91.
Mrs. McIntyre was born Aug. 23, 1911, in Sharon to Oscar Johnston and Christine Ecklund Johnston.
She was a 40-year active member of First United Methodist Church in Sharon; and was previously a member of Central Christian Church in Hermitage, where she belonged to the Sanctuary Choir.
She attended Sharon area schools and was a 1943 honors graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage; and a 1960 honors graduate of the former Shenango Valley Commercial Institute in Sharon.
She was employed by the Talon Corp. in Meadville as a production clerk and quality assurance inspector. She later worked for Wheatland Tube Co. as a bookkeeper and was also the resident director of student nurses for the School of Nursing at what is now Sharon Regional Health System, living at Kimberly Hall.
During World War II, she was involved in special duty projects at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.
She retired as the shorthand instructor for the former Shenango Valley Commercial Institute, where she taught both day and night classes.
She was a member with her husband in the Scandinavian Lodge as a social member; belonged to the senior citizens social group at Sharon Baptist Church, Hermitage; and was a secretary for more than 12 years of the Social Club at Fornelli Manor in Sharon.
Mrs. McIntyre was also a secretary for the Salvation Army Corps in Sharon.
Her husband, Walter McIntyre, whom she married March 19, 1929, died Oct. 6, 1966.
Four granddaughters and 12 great-grandchildren survive.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, David and Norman McIntyre; a daughter, Betty Lou McIntyre; and one great-grandson, Benjamin David Clevenger.

GEORGETOWN, Ind. -- Frances Combine, 3335 Harriott Road, Georgetown, formerly of North Hermitage Road, Sharpsville, died at 1:35 p.m. Friday (8-30-02) in her home. She was 76.

Sharon Steel retiree was WWII vet, served church
A funeral and committal service will be held Tuesday for Leslie M. "Max" Myers, 206 St. Glory Road, Hempfield Township. He died at 2:25 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in his residence after an extended illness. He was 85.
Mr. Myers was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Sligo, Pa., to Edward Leslie Myers and Mary Malinda Kirkwood Myers.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Germany during World War II.
After his discharge from the service, Mr. Myers worked in the oil well business and was later employed by the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, retiring as a general foreman after 30 years of service.
As a member of Bethel Life Worship Center in Hempfield Township, he was a past board member and started the Needy Children Fund at the church.
Mr. Myers enjoyed golfing, camping and playing with his dog, Captain.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Violet Humphrey-Martin, whom he married July 15, 1982, at home; one daughter, Patricia Carlyle, St. Charles, Mo.; one son, Richard Myers, Nesbitt, Miss.; four stepchildren, Callie Winkle, Greenville; Burt Martin, Fredonia; Wayne Martin, West Middlesex; and Pat Martin, Denver; one sister Dorothy Bashline, Knox, Clarion County; three brothers, Ira Myers, Warren, Ohio; Melvin Myers, Sigel, Pa.; and William Myers, Lewis, Del.; six grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 15 stepgreat-grandchild.
Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Jessie Cook Myers; one infant daughter, Mary Myers; one son, Frank Myers; and three brothers, LeRoy, Elwood and Harry Myers.

Margaret 'Midge' S. Shaw
Antique dealer was writer, public speaker
Margaret "Midge" S. Shaw, 25 Lake St., Stoneboro, formerly of 1838 Mercer Road, Jackson Center, died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after a brief illness. She was 90.
Mrs. Shaw was born Dec. 24, 1911, in Guys Mills, Crawford County, to Sam Welcome Jones and Ida Etta Pratt Jones.
She attended country school in Guys Mills and in Meadville city schools. In her early years, she worked at the former Stoneboro Red & White.
Mrs. Shaw was a member of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church.
A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and quilting. She also loved her cats.
She was a well-known antique dealer and appraiser in the area for many years, especially in antique bottles, which were her specialty and for which she operated Midget Bottle Shop, which later became Yoke and Kettle Antique Shop.
Mrs. Shaw loved to write poetry and also wrote about local history, including a book called, "Prairie Flower." She was a member of the Writers Roundtable of Mercer.
She was a public speaker and spoke to many groups about the Civil War. She also loved teddy bears and shared their history as well.
She produced and presented a program, "What Your Grandmother Wore," modeling clothing from previous generations.
She was a 50-year member of Princess Rebekah Lodge 442, Sandy Lake.
She married Lawrence B. "Lorney" Shaw on March 4, 1930. He preceded her in death Sept. 10, 1983.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by: two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary Lou) Minshull, Jackson Center; and Mrs. Donald D. (Margaret "Susie") Jones, Stoneboro; one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Shaw, Stoneboro; and one brother, James Scowden, Meadville. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by one son, Donald B. Shaw; and two sisters, Mary Monnin and Autumn Neff Truett.
