Patricia A. DeMaria Hubbard woman was Avon representative for 24 years Patricia A. DeMaria of 1118 Collar-Price Road, Hubbard, died at 9:40 a.m. Saturday (9-7-02) in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, following an extended illness. She was 61. Mrs. DeMaria was born April 18, 1941, in Masury, a daughter of Frank and Mary Mikulin Kozarich. She was self-employed as a sales representative for more than 24 years with Avon Products. Patricia was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Masury, and a 1958 graduate of Brookfield High School. Survivors include: her husband, Richard J. DeMaria, whom she married on April 4, 1964; two sons, Kenneth J. DeMaria and his wife Janice, West Middlesex; and Daniel K. DeMaria, Masury; one brother, Robert Kozarich and his wife Jean, Brookfield; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kozarich, Brookfield; and a granddaughter, Rachel DeMaria. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her brother, Frank Kozarich Jr.
DeMARIA Charles 'Goyko' Gracenin Farrell native collected arrowheads Charles "Goyko" Gracenin, 998 Water St., Conneaut Lake, died at Thursday evening, Sept. 5, 2002, in Meadville Medical Center. He was 82. Mr. Gracenin was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Farrell to Damjan (Daniel) Gracenin and Ruzica Sarac Gracenin. He attended Farrell High School and was a steamfitter for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union 47 out of Pittsburgh for more than 40 years. He was proud to be a veteran of the World War II U.S. Army, serving in the 77th Infantry stationed in the South Pacific. Mr. Gracenin was of the Serbian Orthodox faith. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, especially at the Walnut Creek Golf Club, Erie County; and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also collected arrowheads. Mr. Gracenin was active in the lives of his grandchildren, especially watching his granddaughter play basketball at Mount Alvernia High School, near Pittsburgh, and now for Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pa. He was proud of his Serbian heritage. His wife, the former Mayme M. Marovich, died on June 29, 1991. Charles is survived by: two sons, Charles Raymond Gracenin and his wife Suzanne Anderson, Pittsburgh; and Richard A. Stainbrook, Lighthouse Point, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jordana Gracenin, Jennifer Gracenin, Justin Gracenin, Traci Bump, Michael Stainbrook and the former Shelly Lynn Stainbrook; three stepgrandchildren, Steven Stainbrook, Charyl-Lee Stainbrook and Scott Stainbrook; two sisters, Bertha "Bertie" Coffee, Long Beach, Calif.; and Miranda "Minnie" Tatalovich, Warwood, W.Va.; two brothers, Nick Gracenin and his wife Johanna, Farrell; and George Gracenin and his wife Helen, Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gracenin was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David A. Stainbrook; four brothers, Bronko "Brownie" Gracenin, Michael Gracenin, Russell Gracenin and Sylvester "Butch" Gracenin; and three sisters, Rosanda Gracenin, Angelka Raketic and Mary Yankovich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County unit of American Cancer Society, 464 Pine St., Meadville 16335.
GRACENIN William Charles 'Chuck' Keener Grove City man had been machinist, salesman William Charles "Chuck" Keener, 402 Woodland Ave., Grove City, formerly of Freeport, Pa., died at 5:47 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, of a heart attack. He was 86. Mr. Keener was born Nov. 11, 1915, in Freeport to Lloyd Monroe Keener and Mary Elizabeth Gaiser Keener. He retired in 1983 from General Electric Co. of Grove City and Pine Township, as a machinist, and was formerly employed as a salesman with W.D. Crooks Co., Williamsport, Pa. Previously, Mr. Keener was a salesman for Montgomery Lumber of Grove City. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer, Roy O. Hale and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519, Grove City. Mr. Keener was a Grove City resident since 1946 and a member of Tower Presbyterian Church; Free and Accepted Masons Cedar Lodge 800; and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1579, all Grove City. He also belonged to Scottish Rites New Castle Consistory and United Commercial Travelers Council 465 of Butler. He enjoyed golf, woodworking and Civil War history. Chuck was always willing to give a helping hand. He loved his family, friends, neighbors and those he met along the way. Surviving are: his wife, the former Mary Alberta Dimit, whom he married on Nov. 17, 1936, at the residence; a daughter, Mrs. Gavin (Colleen) McGaffic, Grove City; one sister, Helen Marie Todd, Sun City Center, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Michelle, Alexander and Cameron Kay McGaffic. Mr. Keener was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, William Charles Keener Jr., who died in 1946.
KEENER Leona Ellen Root West Middlesex alumna enjoyed sewing, reading Leona Ellen Root of Countryside Convalescent Home in East Lackawannock Township, formerly of Hubbard, passed away of natural causes on Friday (9-6-02) in the nursing home. She was 94. Mrs. Root was born on Feb. 24, 1908, in West Middlesex, a daughter of Thomas and Bessie Lee Jackson. She was an alumna of West Middlesex High School. Mrs. Root enjoyed crocheting, sewing and reading. Her husband, Raymond Root, passed away in 1973. Mrs. Root is survived by a niece, Betty Weaver, and her husband, Walter, Sharpsville. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Irene "Nellie" Pollett; and Alice Eva Tomer; and one brother, Robert Jackson.
ROOT Thomas Matthews Thomas Matthews, Orange Village Care Center, Masury, formerly of 529 Lafayette Ave., Sharon, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (9-7-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 69. Obituary information was incomplete.
