Anthony 'Mindo' Mindicino
Church, service club member was WE retiree

Anthony "Mindo" Mindicino, 922 Pryde Ave., Sharpsville, died of natural causes at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in his residence after an extended illness. He was 74.

Mr. Mindicino was born May 20, 1928, in Farrell to Frank Mindicino and Mary Grande Mindicino.

He retired in 1984 after 37 years from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he was a wireman.

Mr. Mindicino was a member of St. Bartholomew's Church in Sharpsville; Sharpsville Service Club; Westinghouse Clerks Association; and North Sharon Volunteer Fire Department.

He loved to play poker, as well as spend time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Pearl Gutierrez, whom he married April 18, 1953, at home; one daughter, Lynn Mindicino, wife of Paul Benson, Reno, Nev.; one son, Dr. Frank A. Mindicino, Trooper, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Bob (Phyllis) Tanneri, Warren, Ohio; and Mrs. Eugene (Rosemary) Dougherty, Hermitage; and two grandchildren, Daniel A. Mindicino and Nicholas P. Mindicino.

Mr. Mindicino was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Angelina Testa; and four brothers, Henry, Charles, Robert and Frank Mindicino.

Helen A. Kaletka

'44 Farrell High alumna belonged to Fatima Church

NEW CASTLE -- Helen A. Kaletka, Jameson Care Center, 3349 Wilmington Road, New Castle, formerly of Wallis Avenue, Farrell, died of natural causes at 8:57 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in the nursing home. She was 77.

Miss Kaletka was born Aug. 9, 1925, in New Kensington, Pa., to Albert Kaletka and Pauline Maciak Kaletka.

She was a 1944 graduate of Farrell High School and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.

Surviving are: one sister, Jane Ruzich, New Castle; and two brothers, Chester Kaletka and his wife Carol; and Leonard Kaletka and his wife Charlene, all Hermitage.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and in 1998 by her brother, Walter Kaletka.

James Wolfe

Former Westinghouse welder was born in Farrell

James Wolfe of John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday (9-19-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 95.

Mr. Wolfe was born Sept. 6, 1907, in Farrell, a son of Nick and Mary Pitts Wolfe.

He was employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. as a welder.

His wife, Ann Aleksa Wolfe, died in 1994.

Survivors include: one son, Gerald J. Wolfe, Graham, N.C.; two daughters, Marilyn Wolfe, Sterling, Va.; and Patricia A. Smith, Manassas, Va.; a sister, Lucy Blende, Dallas, Ore.; two brothers, Dominic Wolf, Hermitage; and Louie Wolfe, Dallas, Ore.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Aleksa and Judy Kelly; and four brothers, Joe Wolfe, Nick Wolf, Bill Wolfe and John Wolfe.

Robert D. Shaw
Fla. man, Mason formerly lived in Sharpsville

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Robert D. Shaw, Fort Myers, formerly of Sharpsville, died at 4:13 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Health Park, part of Lee Memorial Health System. He was 92.

Mr. Shaw was born April 21, 1910, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., a son of the late Robert H. and Gertrude Thomas Shaw.

He worked for many years as a woodworker at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Mr. Shaw also worked for Shenango Furnace Corp. of Sharpsville.

He resided in the Fort Myers area since 1966.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sharpsville.

A 32nd degree Mason, Mr. Shaw belonged to Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 517 in Sharpsville, where he was a past master and the oldest lodge member; and was a 50-year member of Scottish Rites New Castle Consistory.

His first wife, the former Helen Shively, whom he married Aug. 22, 1936, died Aug. 26, 1953. His second wife, the former Marion Parker (Shilling), whom he married in June 1954, died May 9, 1991. Mr. Shaw is survived by his loving daughters, Sandra Hyde-Flaherty, Fort Myers; and Karen Duncan, Alva, Fla. He is also survived by his two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

James R. Gill Sr.

James R. Gill Sr. of 43 Stone Ridge Blvd. in Hermitage, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Thursday (9-19-02) in his residence following an extended illness. He was 83.

A lifelong area resident, Mr. Gill was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Sharon, a son of George Bennett Gill and M. Grace Murphy Gill.

Mr. Gill was a 1936 alumnus of Sharon High School and graduated from what is now Youngstown State University, with his degree in engineering.

Mr. Gill worked for the former Sharon Transformer Division oºf Westinghouse Electric Corp. as well as for the company's Naval Ordnance Plant in Canton, Ohio. He retired from General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant as the senior project engineer with 35 years of service in the engineering department.

A decorated World War II veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy in the Seabees and received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal, having served with the Construction Battalion Ship Repair Unit stationed in Pearl Harbor.

He was a member of Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage; and was a member, past president and zone chairman of Sharon Lions Club, having been chosen as Lion of the Year in 1982.

Mr. Gill was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103; the F.H. Buhl Club; American Legion Post 299; and AARP, a retired person's organization, all Sharon.

He also belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage.

He was a volunteer for Sharon Regional Health System and Prince of Peace Kitchen, Farrell; and served on the board of directors for the Shenango Valley Community Food Bank.

Mr. Gill was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He was also a member of the Service Corps of Retired Executives and the American Institute of Plant Engineers. He also belonged to the Hermitage Planning Commission and served as a committeeman for the Board of Elections at Precinct S-6.

In 1994, he was recipient of the Distinguished Service Award at Church of Notre Dame.

In spite of Jim's various responsibilities and interests, his family came first and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

His wife, the former Julia Sweeney, whom he married Feb. 5, 1944, in the former St. Elizabeth's Church in Farrell, survives him at home.

He also leaves: his daughter, Marcia Baer and her husband Ted, Bernville, Pa.; three sons, James R. Gill Jr. and his wife Carol, Kennett Square, Pa.; Dennis G. Gill and his wife Bonnie, Erie; and Timothy S. Gill and his wife Wendy, State College, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren, Shanon and Kelly Gill; Nicole, Tiffany, Brandon and Elizabeth Baer; Katie and Jamie Gill; and January Williams and Lynnly Deiger. He also leaves one great-granddaughter, Madison Riley Wiºlliams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George B. Gill Jr.; and one sister, Irene M. Gill.

Irene A. Sirianni Donahue

Irene A. Sirianni Donahue, 3502 Basil Drive, Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly at 7:40 p.m. Thursday (9-19-02) in the coronary care unit of UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 72.

Mrs. Donahue was born Jan. 19, 1930, in Farrell, a daughter of John Hotsic and Mary Koros Hotsic.

Irene was a 1947 graduate of Farrell High School.

For about four years during the 1970s, she worked in the cosmetics department of J.C. Penney's department store in Hermitage. She then worked in the medical records department of UPMC Horizon in Greenville for 10 years.

Irene was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell, where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Altar-Rosary Society and the Bethany Club. She was also a former member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville, where she was a RCIA instructor of Catholic doctrine and a member of the church choir.

She was a member and former officer of the Parent Teacher Association in Farrell schools. She was also a member of UPMC Horizon Auxiliary in Farrell, serving as a volunteer with the Host Program. She also worked in the Hospitality Shop.

Her first husband, Michael J. Sirianni, whom she married March 17, 1949, passed away Jan. 12, 1970. Her second husband, Donald E. Lewis, whom she married Jan. 19, 1973, passed away June 13, 1992.

Surviving are: one daughter, Linda J. Sirianni and her companion, Samuel Iacino, both with whom Irene made her home; two sisters, Eleanor Maschgan and her husband Ossie, Sun City West, Ariz.; and Della Zalac, Hermitage; three grandchildren, Ryan M. Anderton, Hermitage; Erica Hawke and her husband Dennis, Franklin; and Holly Anderton, Eugene, Ore.; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Hawke and Cody Hawke, both Franklin.

Beside her first and her second husbands, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael John Sirianni; and two brothers, Nick and Peter Christie.

Walter Franklin Dawson

Retired business owner, Mason served in two wars

Walter Franklin Dawson of 230 Horvath Farms Road, Jefferson Township, passed away at 3:54 a.m. Friday (9-20-02) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness. He was 75.

Mr. Dawson was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Robinson Township, Washington County, a son of Walter Franklin Dawson and Clemence Dhayer Dawson.

He was a 1946 alumnus of Midway High School in Washington County.

Mr. Dawson was the owner and operator of the A-Dee Sewer and Drain Cleaning Service for 15 years, retiring in 1987. He also worked for a number of years with General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant.

He was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Lackawannock Township.

A Free and Accepted Mason, Mr. Dawson belonged to Lodge 668 in Sharon.

He served in both World War II and the Korean conflict with the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman.

Mr. Dawson was a member of American Legion Post 299 in Sharon.

His wife, the former Matilda Schuller, whom he married Oct. 15, 1947, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Susan Horvath and her husband David, Lackawannock Township; and Debora Witkowski and her husband, Raymond, New Wilmington; two sons, Benjamin Dawson and his wife Diane; and Donald Dawson and his wife Mary, all Mercer; one sister, Doris Kelly and her husband John "Jack," St. Cloud, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

His parents and a brother, Robert Dawson, preceded him in death.
