Dana E. Fischer '69 Sharpsville grad worked in Fla. aerospace industry NAPLES, Fla. -- Dana E. Fischer, 5350 Teakwood Drive, Naples, Fla., formerly of Sharpsville, died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, in his home. He was 50. Mr. Fischer was born Dec. 24, 1951, in Sharon, a son of Charles H. Fischer and Gloria A. Flower Fischer. A 1969 graduate of Sharpsville High School, he was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, having served in the U.S. Air Force. After his service in the Air Force, Mr. Fischer graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics and received his certification as an airframe and powerplant mechanic. He later completed additional training and received specialized training in aircraft avionics. He was employed by the United Machine and Aerospace Worker's union and worked for various airlines including U.S. Airways, Royal Airlines and PB Air. He was currently a private aerospace contractor and machinist in Naples. He was a former member of the Order of Demolay in Sharon. Surviving are: one brother, Charles L. Fischer, Sharon; and two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Lisa A.) Gunesch, Farrell; and Sherry L. Greenburg, wife of Dr. Morren Greenburg, Hermitage. He was preceded in death by his parents.

HANNIBAL John Zentz WWII vet, Westinghouse retiree lived in Hermitage John Zentz, 740 Robertson Road, Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning (9-24-02) at his residence. He was 84. Mr. Zentz was born June 4, 1918, in Sharon, a son of Andrew Zentz and Mary Bain Zentz. He attended schools in Sharon and West Middlesex and graduated from Hubbard High School in the Class of 1935. He retired in 1980 as an electrician on the test floor at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he worked for 38 years. He also worked for two years at the former Carnegie Steel in Farrell. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II and also participated for two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage; Westinghouse Retirees Association; Mercer County Chapter of AARP, a retired person's organization; and Westinghouse Bowling League; and was a former member of the Russian Club in Farrell. He often went to his camp in Tionesta, Pa., where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and canoeing. His wife, the former Helen J. Crusan, whom he married Oct. 15, 1940, passed away Dec. 16, 1998. Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. Chester (Rosalie A.) Cornman and Mrs. John (Connie E.) Titus, both Hermitage; Sandra L. Cunningham, New Wilmington; and Mrs. James (Linda S.) Eakin, West Middlesex; one sister, Catherine O'Rourke, Hubbard; one brother, Paul Zentz and his wife Helen, New Castle; nine grandchildren, Debra Harrington, Marta Gill, Tike Gill, Diane Darby, Wendy Cerny, Rick Cunningham, Mike Muffly, Jon Titus and Dave Titus; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Marie Hricik.
ZENTZ Rev. Elwood G. Hoffman Thiel grad was ex-pastor at Sharon Lutheran church ZELIENOPLE -- Rev. Elwood G. Hoffman, former pastor of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brighton Township, Beaver County, and resident of Passavant Retirement Center, Zelienople, formerly of Brighton Township, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2002, in Passavant Retirement Center. He was 89. Born July 23, 1913, in Duquesne, Pa., Rev. Hoffman was a son of the late John F. and Clara Roeder Hoffman. He was a 1938 graduate of Thiel College in Greenville and Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1941. He began his ministry at Oak Grove Lutheran Church, Zelienople, from 1941-46, then was minister at Calvary Lutheran Church, Arnold, Pa.; at Calvary (Christ) Lutheran Church, Sharon; and, until his retirement in 1978, at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brighton Township. After retirement, he served as chaplain for several years at the Passavant Memorial Home, Rochester, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Nellie Reese, on Nov. 29, 1993; and a daughter, Eleanor L. Eichelman. Surviving are: his son and daughter-in-law, George and Marilyn Hoffman, Solon, Ohio; a grandson and his wife, David H. and Pamela Eichelman Jr., Phoenix; and a sister, Mrs. Jacob (Bernice) Spannuth, Indianapolis, Ind. HOFFMAN Margaret K. Lowry Former Shenango Valley woman lived in Ohio MEDINA, Ohio -- Margaret K. Lowry, Lodi, Ohio, formerly of the Shenango Valley, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 23, 2002, in Medina General Hospital after an extended illness. She was 82. Mrs. Lowry was born May 25, 1920, in Sharon to Louis and Katherine Banick. She was a member of the Women's Club of Brecksville, Ohio. Mrs. Lowry was a devoted grandmother and enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing bingo and carpentry. She was the beloved wife of Paul J. Lowry, who survives at home; loving mother of Paul Lowry, husband of Lou Ann, Lodi; devoted grandmother of Jessica, Michelle, Michael and Edward Lowry; and dear sister of Olga Evans, Lakewood, Ohio. Mrs. Lowry was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen Livingston, Ann Caldwell and Rose Williams; and two brothers, Edward and John Banick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1900 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313.
