Mil Michael Bakmaz Retired parole agent was decorated vet of two wars A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday for Mil Michael Bakmaz, 241 Greenfield Road, Lackawannock Township. He died of multiple myeloma at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in his home surrounded by his family. He was 57. Mr. Bakmaz was born Aug. 24, 1945, in Sharon to Mike Bakmaz and Mae Alfredo Bakmaz. He graduated from Hickory High School in 1963 and went on to Youngstown State University to receive his bachelor's of science degree in sociology and psychology. He also attended the criminal justice and political science Master's program at what is now Edinboro University. For 32 years, Mil worked for the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole in the Mercer office as a Parole Agent II. He retired in October 2001. He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex for nearly 30 years. Mil served in the U.S. Army for 28 years, seven of which were active duty, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served in two wars, the Vietnam conflict in 1969 and the Gulf War in 1991. After his commission from the ROTC in 1968, Mil held positions as Signal Officer in Vietnam; Executive Officer for the 402nd Quartermaster Battalion of Farrell; Operation Officer for the 1036th Reserve Force School of Farrell; and Executive Officer for the 475th Quartermaster Group in Farrell. His last assignment was in the Pentagon Operations Center in Washington D.C. During his military career, he received a Bronze Star in 1970 and 1991; Meritorious Service Medal in 1991and 1993; Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal; Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal in 1975, 1979, 1983, 1987, and 1991; two National Defense medals, 1969 and 1991; Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal from 1990 to 1991; Armed Forces Reserve Medal in 1981 and 1991; Armed Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal; and three Overseas Service medals, 1969, 1970 and 1991. Mil enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, bow hunting, small game hunting and fishing. He also belonged to several hunting clubs. He coached girl's softball in West Middlesex and was an assistant Little League baseball coach in West Middlesex. Surviving are: his wife, the former Josephine Lukasko, at home, whom he married Sept. 10, 1968; one daughter, Cassandra and her husband Christopher Gagnon, Cumming, Ga.; one son, Brian and his wife Shana Bakmaz, Sharon; his parents, Hermitage; two brothers, Robert Bakmaz and his companion, Wanda Yee, San Francisco; and Marko and his wife Elaine Bakmaz, Cincinnati; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bakmaz also leaves his two grandsons, Daniel and Michael Bakmaz, with whom he spent his happiest hours.
BAKMAZ Bernice Hannibal Farrell woman born in NYC was caregiver A memorial Mass will be held Friday for Bernice Hannibal, 39 Cathedral Drive, Farrell. She died at 6:55 a.m. Monday (9-23-02) in her home. She was 73. Mrs. Hannibal was born June 10, 1929, in New York City. She was a caregiver by profession and served in the New York City National Defense. Mrs. Hannibal belonged to First Baptist Church in Cincinnati. Her husband, Remy Hannibal, is deceased. Surviving are: four sons, Lawrence Micheal Hannibal, Watertown, N.Y.; Remy Augustus Hannibal, Long Island, N.Y.; Ronald Hannibal, Nassau County, N.Y.; and Roger Paul Hannibal, Cincinnati; three daughters, Ann Ce'phise Valentine Hannibal Dancer, Watertown; Beverly Delores Hannibal, Long Island; and Cynthia Hannibal, Washington, D.C.; one brother, Arthur Banks; two sisters, Shirley Banks and Yolanda Banks, both New York City; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hannibal was preceded in death by her foster parents; a daughter, Gloria Jean Hannibal; and two brothers, Robert Banks as well as Bernice's twin brother Bernard Banks.

HEADINGS Edward Lee Roberson III Edward Lee Roberson III, infant son of Edward Lee Roberson and Kristen Elizabeth Byers Roberson, passed away shortly after birth at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. Edward is survived by his parents of Sharon. He also leaves a sister, Dayana C. Roberson; and a brother, Shawn A. Byers, both at home; his maternal grandparents, Dr. David Byers and Constance Byers, Waldron, Ark.; his paternal grandparents, Bobby and Deborah Roberson, Sharon; and paternal great-grandparents, James and Helen Adair, Mercer; a paternal great-great grandmother, Bennie Lawson; a maternal great-great-grandmother, Elsie Byers; and several uncles. His maternal great-grandparents preceded him in death. ROBERSON Oliver Paul Sartori Decorated WWII vet was Brookfield Inn co-owner Oliver Paul Sartori of 7298 Brookwood Drive, Brookfield, died at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday (9-25-02) in O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. He was 80. Mr. Sartori was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Coal Center, Pa., a son of John and Mary Battistelli Sartori. He was a graduate of Brookfield High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. Mr. Sartori earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with two Bronze Stars; the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star; the Good Conduct Medal; and the Victory Medal. Mr. Sartori was retired and had been co-owner with his brothers, Roy and Louis, of the former Brookfield Inn from 1946 until 1995. The inn was originally operated by their mother. He was a member of St. Bernadette's Church in Masury. Mr. Sartori is survived by his wife, the former Mary Kathryn Valent, whom he married Sept. 7, 1946. Also surviving are: a son, Gary Sartori and his wife Mary, Cortland; a daughter, Barbara Diehl, Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Ida Ake, Akron; three grandchildren, Leyla and Justin Sartori; and Aaron Diehl; a great-grandson, Christopher Buchman; three stepgrandchildren, John, Michael and Anthony Perry; and a nephew, Edward Valent, whom he helped raise. Several other nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Sartori was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul E. Sartori; two brothers, Roy and Louis Sartori; and two sisters, Jessie Wallace and Tillie Garono.
