Carl J. 'Waters' Amico
Sharon Steel retiree, WWII vet belonged to local clubs

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday for Carl J. "Waters" Amico, 220 Beechwood Ave., Farrell. He died of natural causes at 2:56 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following a brief illness. He was 88.

Mr. Amico was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Farrell to Paul Amico and Theresa Bartalone Amico.

Carl was a graduate of Farrell High School Class of 1932 and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He retired in 1978 after 41 years of employment with the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he was a craneman.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II and was a member of the medical corps in the South Pacific theater of operations.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Saxon Retirees Club, and Sharon Steel Retirees Club, all Farrell; and Sons of Italy, Sharon.

Carl loved to fish, garden and play cards.

His wife, the former Josephine A. Castiglione, died May 1, 2000.

Surviving are: two sons, James Amico, Warren, Ohio; and Robert Amico, Farrell; and one brother, Angelo Amico, Bloomington, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Michael, Joe, David, Sam and John Amico; and Joseph Scanella; and two sisters, Anna Tona and Josephine Bennett.

Edna Mae Reed Pollock

Hermitage pastry shop retiree aided ministry

NEW CASTLE -- Edna Mae Reed Pollock of 104 Nesbitt Road, New Castle, and formerly of 158 S. Kerrwood Drive, Hermitage, died on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in the hospital of Jameson Health System, New Castle. She was 83.

Mrs. Pollock was born Sept. 15, 1919, in New Castle to William L. Reed and Myrtle A. Zeigler Reed.

A member of First United Methodist Church in New Castle, she was faithful to Crossing Paths Television Ministry. Mrs. Pollock was formerly a member of Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church in Sharon, where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir, and was nursery superintendent for 20 years.

She retired as the store manager for Max-Ann Pastry Shop in Hermitage.

Her husband, James W. Pollock, whom she married Oct. 5, 1939, died April 26, 1985.

Surviving are: one son, James L. Pollock and his wife Barbara, Mogodore, Ohio; three brothers, William Reed, Sharon; Pastor Donald Reed Sr., Hermitage; and Merle Reed, New Castle; four sisters, Annetta Hoover, Nellie Huff, Myrtle Myacher and Maude Gall, all New Castle; and two grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Pollock was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Gladys Schwartz, Helen Walthour and Harriet Waddington.

Timothy L. Headings

'74 Sharon High grad was active in Nazarene church

A funeral service will be held Monday for Timothy L. Headings, 1136 March St., Sharon. He died at 11:28 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 46.

Mr. Headings was born Dec. 19, 1955, in Sharon to Robert P. Headings and Ruth J. Mueller Headings.

He was an active member of Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Hermitage and served as a greeter.

A 1974 graduate of Sharon High School, Mr. Headings was employed by Winner International in Sharon, as a receiving clerk in the traffic department.

Surviving are: his mother, Sharon; and two brothers, Robert P. Headings Jr. and Mark A. Headings, also Sharon.

Timothy was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, 3840 Freeway Blvd., Hermitage 16148.
