Retired welder was member of local vet posts

SAXONBURG, Pa. -- James J. Miller, Outlook Point Nursing Home, Saxonburg, formerly of 3750 Holly Lane, Hermitage, passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday (10-6-02) in the nursing home. He was 77.

Mr. Miller was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Cecil, Pa., to William and Matilda Miller.

He was educated in Pittsburgh. Jim enlisted with the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942, where he was stationed in New York City. He later served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic and tech sergeant, having been stationed in the European theater and the South Pacific.

Mr. Miller retired from Local 154 Pittsburgh Boilermaker Union, where he had been a welder for 30 years.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township; and Jamestown American Legion Post.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed gofing.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Jean Trippett, whom he married June 18, 1974, at home in Hermitage; a daughter, Leah K. Miller, Pittsburgh; a sister, Florence; and a grandson, Timothy James Miller, Pittsburgh.

His parents; two brothers, William and Stanley; and three sisters, Marie, Marcella and Helen, preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercer County Special Olympics, in care of Fran Sass, 1023 Heinz Ave., Sharon 16146.
