Paul R. Wilds Lifelong area resident was devoted to family, church Frances R. "Tootsie" Davies, 2204 Carolyn St., Hermitage, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 11 a.m. Thursday (10-10-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 75. Mrs. Davies was born June 11, 1927, in Sharon, a daughter of Peter Palermo and Rose Crivello Palermo. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1945 graduate of Farrell High School. A homemaker, Mrs. Davies was an active lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell. She was also very devoted to her family and the church and proud of the fact that all of her 11 children attended Catholic schools for 12 years of education. Her husband, Charles H. Davies, whom she married on Oct. 29, 1947, at home. She also leaves: six daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Sandy) Tone, Atlanta; Mrs. Glenn (Mary) Weaver, Sheffield, Pa.; Mrs. Thomas (Monica) Beith, Dublin, Ohio; Mrs. Tim (Jeannie) Brogan, Cleveland; Bernadette Davis, Sharon; and Mrs. Steve (Lori) Hatzialexiou, Stow, Ohio; five sons, Charles Davies and his wife Pamela, St. Davids, Pa.; Richard Davies and his wife Mary, Hubbard; Thomas Davies and his wife Vicky; and Joseph Davies and his wife Tina, all Sharpsville; and Anthony Davies and his wife Linda, Woodbury, Minn.; 20 grandchildren, Robbie, Brian, Kristi, Michelle, Michael, Gabby, Dominique, Matthew, Eugena, Peter, Natalie, Victoria, Tommy, Christian, Ian, Nichole, Liam, Daniel, Jack and Maria; and one great-grandchild, Nathanial. Mrs. Davies was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Edward Palermo. Margaret E. Kendall McConnell, 166 S. Otter St., Mercer, died unexpectedly at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 78. Mrs. McConnell was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Neshannock Township, Lawrence County, to Findley Justin Kendall and Ethel Marie Wilson Kendall. She was a homemaker and mother and attended Mercer United Methodist Church. Mrs. McConnell enjoyed cards and board games, puzzles, walking and was an avid reader. Her husband, Mont E. McConnell, whom she married on Feb. 12, 1942, died on July 26, 1989. Surviving are: five sons, Findley L. McConnell and his wife Mary Ann; and Robert McConnell and his wife Betsy, all Mercer; Fred E. McConnell and his wife Alice, Stoneboro; Kenneth McConnell and his wife Ronda, Butler; and Russell McConnell and his wife Darlene, Apopka, Fla.; one brother, Samuel Howard Kendall, Lisle, Ill.; three sisters, Dorothy Frances Smith, New Castle; Virginia Marie Ferrell, Amarillo, Texas; and Thelma Adelaide Ferver, Warren, Pa.; and 13 grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy McConnell; her father, who died on June 28, 1928; her mother, who died on Feb. 5, 1944; four brothers, Raymond, Robert, Findley and Walter; and three sisters, Agnes, Elizabeth and Sara. McCONNELL Kenneth Leroy Sutherland Harrisville native was veteran of Korean conflict Kenneth Leroy Sutherland, Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of Butler, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, following a two-year illness. He was 67. Mr. Sutherland was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Harrisville to Arthur Sutherland and Lola Beach Sutherland. He retired in 2000 from the Butler Eagle, where he worked in the warehouse-delivery department. He previously worked for Cooper Energy Services Reciprocating Products in Grove City. Mr. Sutherland was of the Protestant faith and a veteran of the Korean conflict having served with the U.S. Army. His wife, the former Betty Inglebird, is deceased. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Carl E. (Kendra) Hockenberry and Lisa English; his former wife, Shirley M. Rhoades Collins, all Mercer; one sister, Mrs. William (Esther) Thompson, Grove City; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Besides his wife, Mr. Sutherland was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, K. Mark Sutherland, who died in 1988.
SUTHERLAND Levon Norris POTTSVILLE, Pa. -- Levon Norris, Pottsville, Pa., died Wednesday (10-9-02) in Pottsville Hospital Warren Clinic. He was 38. Obituary information was incomplete.
NORRIS Arthur G. Thomas Delphi retiree was WWII vet, antique buff Arthur G. Thomas, 139 Orangeville Road, West Salem Township, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 82. Mr. Thomas was born July 14, 1920, in Diamond, Pa., to Herbert and Florence Stevenson Thomas. A graduate of Titusville High School, he retired as a tool and die maker from Delphi Packard Electric Systems in Warren, Ohio, with more than 25 years of service. Mr. Thomas was a World War II Army Air Force veteran and served as a sergeant in aircraft maintenance. He was a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church, West Salem Township. Mr. Thomas was interested in antiques, especially antique auto and gas engines. His wife, the former Janice McCartney, whom he married on Nov. 27, 1945, survives at home. Also surviving are: a son, David Thomas and his wife Beverly, Franklin; three daughters, Mrs. Peter (Sharon) Chandler, Franklin; Mrs. Arthur (Maureen) Wolfgarth, Mercer; and Mrs. John (Yvonne) Basnak, Jamestown; six grandchildren, Tom Chandler, Suzi Stewart, David and Megan Basnak; and Michael and Julie Thomas; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Chandler. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Thomas. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
THOMAS Anna Laudo Former W.M. homemaker was renowned rug maker Anna Laudo, Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, formerly of Wansack Road, West Middlesex, died of natural causes at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 94. Mrs. Laudo was born Oct. 28, 1907, in Farrell to Vasil Wansack and Mary Zentz Wansack. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage; St. Michael's Ladies Social Club; and the church Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. Mrs. Laudo was known for rugs made on her loom. She loved to garden and travel to Uniontown Pilgrimage, a trip she made for 35 consecutive years. Her husband Stephen Laudo, whom she married on Oct. 26, 1935, died Dec. 4, 1974. Surviving are: four sons, Frank M. and his wife Peggy Laudo; Thomas G. and his wife Tina; and Robert M. and his wife Barbara Laudo, all West Middlesex; and John N. and his wife Diane Laudo, Youngstown; two brothers, Joseph and his wife Sally Wansack, West Middlesex; and Matthew and his wife Flo Wansack, Youngstown; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Laudo was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Catherine Hornyak, Mary Wansack and Helen Wansack; four brothers, Michael, Steve, John and George Wansack; and a great-grandchild, Taylor Elizabeth Laudo.
